Vending machine header - wacky or knock off??
« on: September 16, 2010, 02:27:35 PM »
Does anyone know anything about this vending machine header? This doesn't look like the black background vending machine wacky. I think it says Taiwan at the bottom of the wacky.

No, that is not a sticker at all. It's one of the Taiwan puffy magnets.  Late 70s or early 80s though.

I had no idea those knockoffs were found in gumball machines, kind of interesting even if not all that valuable.

The magnets came in a display box but I guess someone had extras and they sold them for use this way.

Here's what I have... there is one set of "puffy magnets" that are Taiwanese Wacky (non Topp sanctioned) ripoffs. The first photo shows 6 of them. I don't know if there are others. The "Peter Pain" shown in the eBay auction is certainly one of these. I don't know how these were originally distributed. The only thing close to a copyright, as noted earlier, is the word Taiwan on each puffy.

The 2nd photo shows a set of 6 "Magnetic signs", which are the same size as the puffy magnets, with a 1974 Nadel and Sons Toy Company copyright and also labeled with Taiwan. I believe the ones shown are the only six. These were sold from a counter-top display box. See photo 3 for a scanned copy of the closed box top.

I have the exact same yellow box you have except the six images I have on it are the six puffy sticker Wacky images. The box I got came with the 6 Wacky puffy magnets.

Interesting... must have been original series 1 and not-so-original series 2. Is there any date at all on the box?

Got all the info. They are from 1974. Here is a link with a picture of the Wacky box as well as another vending card done in the same way:

That's pretty wild how those header cards are pretty much identical except for the different Wacky title.  Some completest out there needs to try to get all six varieties!!
Giving "The Hobby" the finger since 1999!
