Just got an email cancelling the October show.  Sorry everybody

Why not a virtural Philly Non-Sport Card show to fill both 2020 in person losses?

This is literally starting to get ridiculous. And that's saying a lot considering it has been ridiculous, and it is still ridiculous.

It is unfortunate, but I can't see how it is ridiculous.  They need to draw enough dealers and customers to make it work financially, and they might not have.  Also, if they had to limit the number of people in the room at any one time, there probably would have been awful lines, which would have resulted in disgruntled customers, maybe even demanding refunds.

I am not calling it ridiculous such that the card show/Tosers are for not holding it, but regarding to this virus as a whole. I'm not going to rant about it again for obvious reasons, and I am sure everyone here knows my take.

Florida's health department falsified their numbers, and there's no doubt a plethora of other states are doing this as well because it lines their wallets. 'Tis all I have to say.

I was going to try to make it this fall too and couple it with some other side trips in the area over the weekend.  I don't go anywhere these days, so I was hoping that the COVID-19 issue would be behind us.  However it only looks like it's getting worse.  We can hope for Spring of 2021.

Not all of us know your stance, what evidence do you have that inflating the numbers lines wallets?  I have yet to find truly verifiable literature that says hospitals are enriched per Covid case.  Florida has an ex Health department worker saying she was fired because she refused to LOWER the numbers to justify opening Florida.  Lots of rumors with no substantiation of a conspiracy either way.  I focused on NJ and I can show the Covid death numbers are SURPRESSED and not inflated.

Unless I am reading incorrectly, hospitals have been getting 20% more federal funds due to this virus, and as usual, patients whom require ventilators give the hospital a three-fold kickback when compared to normal patients. I have no clue just HOW much hospitals are paid in general, and not sure who does...

And, the numbers are beyond FUBAR. Hospitals are reporting different numbers than health departments which are reporting different numbers than governors which are... you get my point. The country is getting shut down/has been shut down for months over a bunch of question marks where there is IS quantitative data that hasn't been shown publicly. Too little of the population wants to question that, and would rather lecture me on how a mask is just "common courtesy". I've often wondered why people don't wear these in the flu season.

I usually don't entertain conspiracy theorists, but this can't be chalked up to a whole lot until we know more. There is something up.

"It does appear to the case, however, that a motorcyclist who was killed in a traffic accident also tested positive for COVID-19, and was initially listed among Florida’s COVID-19-related deaths. But officials from the Florida Department of Health said that person has since been removed from the count."

I want to know when this figure was lowered, and how many similar cases have occurred and gone unnoticed by the general public.

http://www.madnesshub.com/2020/04/wolf-administration-is-caught-adding-up.html

And, I realize that the article was from a few months ago but that doesn't mean this flawed logic isn't still holding true. This corruption can still be hidden and we will never know.

Y'all need to get onto the VR train.  Virtual Philly Show!  That'd be interesting.  Add crypto-Wackys paid for with bitcoin while in-headset, and we'll see the future of collectables!  (Ug.  Yah, even me, Mr. VR, wouldn't vote for THAT development.)  Wouldn't be bad for an alternative to the inevitable, 2021 "Zoom Reunion".  Who wants to see a Brady-Bunch-esque grid of 9 old faces with giant nostrils when you could be 3D Avatars of your favorite Wacky Pack character waltzing around and interacting in 3d instead?

Really hopeful for a vaccine soon so that we can for certain have an in-person, traditional Spring 2021 Philly Show -- even if it has to be with masks.  Perhaps Roxanne should have a nurse administrating the vaccine at the show entrance, and then everyone who gets vaccinated at that time or shows proof of an earlier vaccination gets a special promo card, "Wacky Vax".  Even if that scenario would of course never happen for health and safety reasons, I'm sure at least one of our illustrious Wacky artists could come up with a "Wacky Vax" promo card!   :-[

Sad to be going elsewhere, that place had old-worldly charm, not to mention my wife and I liked the fries!  Hopefully the new place (which might be one of the places we were at in the past?) won't be too far from the Merchant's Square Mall, as I always used to buy a ton of odd-sized toploaders from the nice woman at the store that you go into at the last corner before you turn to walk into the entrance.

I agree. I liked the old time atmosphere of Merchant's Square Mall and just walking around outside the show looking at the items up for auction and what the vendors had for sale. Never ate there though... there was always a line so I just waited at got something the WAWA nearby.

Has the show always been in Allentown or has it been closer to Philly in the past?  It's a long drive for me and hope it doesn't go farther away.

My favorite location was the Enterprise Center at Burlington Community College in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Immaculately clean trading area with plenty of space. Beautiful!

It was in Mt. Laurel, NJ for several years before Allentown. Before that, it was in Pennsauken, NJ.

I guess I’m lucky to say Allentown’s an hour drive but I definitely don’t see myself going to New Jersey for a card show.

Interestingly enough, it’s the only state bordering PA that I haven’t been to. I’ve seen it from Philly, close enough for me.

I actually found out about the spring show cancellation from 1 of the dealers through a phone conversation today before reading all of the info on here and of course I'm very disappointed about it, and as for a brand new location to put the show on, guess we'll just have to wait for the news on that as well. I do hope it will continue to be in PA.

Yeah, and Philly takes twice as long to get to, especially traversing through it into New Jersey. It may be a more practical drive for some, but definitely not for me.

It really isn't a concern though, considering I doubt any shows are going to be held this year.

Philly is closer for me, but we do not mind the trip to Allentown.

We do like the small town feel and so forth.

MAYBE it should be in Virginia Beach!!! WARM Weather - Palm Trees - Beaches - Babes (hmmmm probably in trouble for that one.....)

Norfolk International Airport - Easy Access from Interstate 13 up and down the East Coast.......

The Vegas virtual con was great, but I'm sure it's a LOT of work behind the scenes, and people have
to have the time to donate, and any potential guests have to have availability as well.

Just saying, it's not as easy as it may seem to put together, although I would love to see it happen!

What exactly did you hear because that sounds like misinformation.  Roxanne said due to the pandemic they're not going to be hosting showsso I wouldn't phrase that as shows you're not welcome anymore, the latter has a different connotation.

For those who did not receive the email, this is the exact verbiage within regarding using the MSM:
Quote from: Non-Sport email
Due in large part to COVID-19, the Merchants Square Mall in Allentown will discontinue hosting conventions in 2021. We have already begun the search for another facility and will keep everyone informed. Depending where we go, we may have to change the date. We are trying our best to hold the show in October. Be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page and website for updates.
It does not specifically say "non sport card shows" nor "not welcome". IMO, it is saying that no large gatherings there will occur in 2021. It could be inferring even beyond that time. I'm sure that the MSM would love to have some kind of show there every weekend, if they could. Roxanne and Co. are being optimistic about having a Fall 2021 show somewhere, which is good; honestly, I think they'll back down on that one, as well, even if they find another place to host it.

you and I are in synch on interpretation of this.  2021 is going to be a weird year like 2020 but these changes aren't permanent and certainly not banning of shows.  Looking forward to normalcy and hoping the non sport show stays close to Allentown and the same weekend as pinball shows down the road.  Nice to be able to do both in one weekend especially for folks Like Brian L who travels a long way for these shows  ;)

I was tempted to hop on the Amtrak train, which I believe takes me right into downtown Philly, and
I could avoid driving over either bridge in New York and that horrible Jersey Turnpike, ugh.

Train would be about 8 hours I think?  but I could get up and down, walk around, and sleep
the whole ride, too!

Thanks B.C. Actually heard that from Joe L. from IL. Hopefully nothing goes wrong and this show is able to be put on. We collectors need to get together again and go card hunting for the hobby we all like. We have been apart too long as it is.
