Heritage Die Cut box up for auction
« on: April 13, 2024, 12:20:40 AM »
I like the variation box - Tasty Spider soup - but really? $20K estimate? For such a rough box? Why isn't there a pix of the unopened packs within - could they all really be unopened???
Does this grading service have a good reputation?

So that is roughly $750-$800 per pack plus the value of the box at 20k.  Ouch
Still looking for Series 17

Yep.  Way too rich for my blood.  Plus, I wouldn't want a full box to be forever shrink wrapped...........

I believe BBCE is the name in the business.

I can't remember the certifying co name or the product but there was a certified sealed case of either pokemon or magic cards, etc that was traded for a huge amount of money that then turned out to be full of a different product when opened months later in front of a camera. In this case I'm hoping/expecting that the company was able to open the box and inspect the packs before sealing it - in the other situation, they must have just checked to see if the case looked originally sealed.

I checked Greg's site again to refresh my memory. This is the later and harder to find of the two boxes, and would seem unlikely to contain the two ultra-rares. I wondered if a threatened C&D had anything to do with the change in wording. "Tasty Spider Soup" sounds like a taunt.

"Box presents mild to moderate wear throughout."

Really? there are massive gaping wounds to the artwork on two sides. How is that mild to moderate wear?

It says in the auction description: "Authenticated and sealed by Steve Hart-Baseball Card Exchange". So, that answers that question...unless, of course, they're lying.

Would a full box in which the box itself is mangled suggest a strong possibility of a cobbled-together box in which the packs come from a multitude of sources, which in turn increases the possibility of opened/inspected/resealed packs?  I would want to closely inspect the contents for uniformity in sealing characteristics from one pack to the next.  If that is not possible, a prospective bidder should be prepared, assuming they will open the contents, to receive a full box absent any Ratz/Cracked for the amount they’re bidding up to.

As freetoes mentioned, even if this box is completely legitimate, it is extremely unlikely to contain any Ratz or Cracked being the 1968 (later) box.

Ok, so there wouldn’t even necessarily be any pretense of the possibility.  Is the rarer Jolly Mean also from the earlier version?  I’m no expert in die-cuts by any means.

Not sure if we know a good timeline for JM #21. It replaced Moron Salt (likely for a short time, why it's so rare) before being replaced by Maddie Boy. So, to answer your question...we don't really know. :D  However, going out on a limb a bit, I'd say this box is more likely to have a JM #21 than Ratz/Cracked...which is not really saying much.

Not that greg really has any idea as he for the longest time thought the two die cut boxes were equally scarce, his website says "The box changed from Tasty to Campy, for some unkown reason"

Where does greg finally now acknowledge Tasty is the harder box to find?  the two box codes seem to be the same.

the landing page for the die-cuts has that noncommital statement, but if you then select through to each specific box, he indicates common and tough

  • The Campy is more common

  • The word "Campy" was replaced by "Tasty" on the soup can.
This is the tougher of the two boxes to find.

Yes, I saw that on the site, and it threw me for a second. If you follow the Tasty link, the text says it is the tougher box to find, and that the code ends in 8. The box at the bottom with the code displayed is a Campy.

I couldn't see the code on the Heritage box, because the shrink wrapping covers it up. Does anyone here own a Tasty box?

Not to go off on a tangent, but here's another interesting Heritage auction, though slightly mislabeled: Wacky packs

Nope, I am missing that one, but I have a beautiful example of the Campy box, and my code ends in a 7.

I believe the image greg has up for Tasty shows it ending with 7 so his image is also perhaps wrong with all his other contradictions and sloppiness here.

No, I'm being sarcastic because of your old "I hate Greg" routine which, if I've told you once, I've told you a million times: I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT! In fact, I've heard it so often I'm bored!

No, I'm not fine with Greg's words any more than I am with yours, Ernie. You two are both acting just like boys with toys and have been doing this for years. However, the last time I tried to intervene and help you both to reconcile, both of you did nothing but yell at me. Didn't anyone ever tell you if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all? Please, I'm asking you nicely, keep your opinions on Greg, whatever they may be, to yourself from now on. I'm telling you right now, nobody cares but you.

The ratio of posts of yours complaining about my railing greggie poo to the number of posts of yours complaining about his railing me is 1000 to 0......you have been waiting for an opportunity to spar with me for like a year ever since you dug up some random 2 year old post that everyone chastised you for so why don't you take your own advice and stay out of this.  Can't you find some other post from years ago that has a typo or something.....

What are you raving about? What two-year old post? And when was I ever chastised by anyone except for you, bigtomi and Plastered Peanut?
