Maybe "Fires" would have been better, with something like "shake it up, aim and pop the top."  Another step forward (Wonky Packages, anyone?) could be "Fired" because you shoot it at your boss.

Good one Pat! You're "Hired"! Seriously, "Fires" is great! Just one suggestion: Consider changing it to "Fired" for the Wonky Package ;) ...

Yeah, anything would have been funnier than Hired. How about: Tires - root beer that tastes like your car!

I like that better than Hires.  What taglines would you suggest?

Maybe I was (and am) a bit slow, but as a kid, I liked it when the title hewed closely to the original so there was little doubt what product was being parodied.

So I liked the title Hired, but it certainly didn't fit with the tag lines. Maybe those should have been changed to something like "It's hard work to finish" and/or "Tastes like blood sweat and tears".

Yeah, could be because I was only 6 but I really didn't care much about the titles/gags. I cared about the image.

I agree, even with comics of the same period...it was all about the pictures. Actually reading anything did not come until a few years later.

Hired Root Beer - because they'd have to pay you to drink it. Size - 40 hours. Leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.

Sorry, I'm done.

Nice! I'm embarrassed that I missed RawGoo's clever wordplay yesterday, so thanks for picking up the slack!

Another classic!  And, I like that Hungry Jack image because it includes part of the other Hungry Jerk product.

Motorzola and Mazola...

gag was a bit of a stretch on the name, but other than that, I've always really loved this one. The bottle, oil and bubbles are fascinating to examine. Such a mastery of technique.

It is very well painted, and I liked it as a kid, but I still don't get why engine oil was a spoof of cooking oil.

Because they're both called oil?

But Motorzola doesn't seem to be a parody of motor oil, either.  Apparently, it is great for your car engine.

I'm not saying it's particularly funny or clever--many wackys aren't--but the "joke" is just that your cooking oil has been replaced by motor oil.

love this one. great art - the suds outside the bottle and on the label, and that bottle.
not sure why 1064 gallons, other than that's a LOT of water

I kinda like the notion you would buy it to smell like an athlete. I could only find one advertisement picture for comparison.
