Run Tony Ludlow back
« on: June 03, 2016, 08:27:44 PM »
I have located a Run Tony with Red Ludlow back. No writing on back or front, decent centering, vg condition.
Also, I located a second series Gloom, Black Ludlow back-excellent condition, no creases or writing on back or front.
Same for a Log Cave In, Red Ludlow back.

Values anyone? They are scarce, especially the Run Tony.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Value varies widely as they cooled at one point and were barely getting $20, then a wave of buyers hit and they went higher.  Ebay is your best guide, take the time to watch 2nd series Ludlow auctions to see the fluctuations.

Boy does this thread bring back a great memory for me, Back in 1999 I was at a local baseball card shop and was picking through a big white cardboard box that had a lot of non-sport cards in it and I came across a black Ludlow of Run Tony, Paid .25 for it and sold it for $50. Then at a flea market not too long after that, I located about 4 2nd series red Ludlow backs, Paid $4 each and got them for about the same price as the RT.

I found these in a box of baseball cards. I was surprised to see these Ludlow backs, especially the Run Tony. There are none up on ebay right now with the Ludlow back, so I assume they are pretty hard to find. In fact, I don't see hardly any Ludlow backs on ebay right now.
I may send these to psa just for giggles.
I foolishly marked the backs on many of my original wacky's when I was a kid. What a stupid move!

Look at completed auctions for Ludlow values.  Post a pic of the Ludlows you have and people here can let you know if they're worth sending to psa.

I don't think I would send that Run Tony to PSA what with the corners being in the shape that they're in.

The faded ones are red, unless I am blind or they are black and I am exceptionally color blind.

Its all a moot point, these are not PSA grade worthy, many corners are rounded or blunted.

Right. I could simply overwhelm the bid assuming money is not an issue.
What do you think it is worth?

1500 seems way over the top, considering that none are psa graded?

At $910 I was the high bidder. Now I'm out. Too rich for my blood as they say. I believe Mr. Leonard is correct as I guessed it would go to around $1800 with the puzzle being there.

Tough call since almost 1/2 of the stickers have significant "tilt." It will be interesting to see if that has any effect on the final price.

Don't forget there is a scoot no copyright in there also.  Also the right side puzzle pieces look real good. I stand by my 1500 final price

Would the winning bidder be well-advised to send all this to PSA?
I see at least 1 that is (oc).

I would advise sending most, if not all, of these to PSA. Mostly because of the "tilt" that Bill mentioned plus the centering issues on some. And, don't foget, you can't see the corners in those pictures well enough to see if there is significant "fraying."

Brian, I'm confused. Wouldn't the centering/tilt/yellowing/wear and other issues with these mean it might not be worth sending to PSA? You say the new owner should send them? What am I missing?

Tom, I think he's talking about the series 16 set that just sold on the Bay.

I understand that. What I don't is why you'd send basically lower-to-mid grade cards to PSA.

Seems I should proofread stuff I type before I post it. I meant to say that I would advise AGAINST sending any of these to PSA. Said with a sheepish grin on my face. Sorry for the confusion.

I rather suspected that was what happened (a missing word or something similar), but it does show that proofreading posts is a good idea, as one can only interpret the words that are there.

So in all the learned opinions I see here, these cards are not to be sent to psa. Is the prevailing opinion that only nm-mt cards should be sent to be graded? And anything less than nm (for example ex-mt) is foolish?
And what is the thinking here on that theory.
Regale me with the concept.
