1967 Die Cut Orig
« on: June 14, 2015, 07:22:40 PM »
Hello,
My Mom worked for Topps for 20 years. Recently my Father and I have been going through the closet and we found like 20 of the original 1967 Die Cut Wacky packs. I have never been a huge fan of these but when I did an internet search it seems they are worth a bit of money. I have Cracked Animals, Jolly Giant #43, Campy Spider Soup, Demented Tomatoes, Fearstone, Lavirus, Maddiboy, Skimpy, Schmutz, Weakies, Duzn't, and Bandache. They have all never been punched out and I think are in great shape. The cracked Animals I would say is off centered/miscut the punched out part is fully intact but there is no white top boarder. Let me know what you guys think.

-Nate

Welcome to the forum Nate.  Wish I had a closet like that!

The Cracked Animals would have been a jackpot had it been centered, but it's still a great find.  While you decide what to do with them, buy some penny sleeves and top loaders to keep the cards safe and flat, and be careful not to pop any of the perforations or damage the corners.

I cannot find another Cracked Animals for sale in any condition anywhere it is making figuring out a price to sell it at very difficult, any thoughts on prices?

I'll give you $20.   LOL

Actually, due to the centering issue with yours, it does decrease the value considerably. If it were well centered, like RawGoo states, it would probably command in the $1500-$2000 range. Not sure where yours would sit, but my guess would be half that, maybe even less. Others here, more knowledgeable than I on this topic, should chime in.

That Cracked is so off centered, it might be extremely rare.    It might be the only one of it's kind in existence.

just kidding... don't listen to me

actually it is worse than off center since another card is showing on the back it is a mis-cut

I'm not seeing what you're referring to, it looks correct to me.

this compares the one off Greg's page and the one posted above

I just had so many come back from PSA that if they are that far over they are no longer (OC) they come back as (MC).

I agree, it would get the MC qualifier.

Patrick,
I see what you were saying.  It was how I described the mis cut (mc).  The definition I gave is correct.  you are right you can not see the other card, however they count all the white border as the other card also.  sorry for how I described it - JOE

yeah, I guess it comes down to what is defined as 'another card'. While no text or image from the neighboring card is visible, this one is offset strongly into the space where Muller is located. Muller just happens to be a card with a very small footprint and a lot of white space. If it was pretty much any other card on that side of it, you'd be able to see it here.

*edit* looking closer at the front, I do see the slightest bit of black border from Cracked Jerk on the far right side.

I do believe the back shows txt from the next card.

when you match the card against a normal Cracked, as I did above, only the expected CA text is on the back, and nothing else.

The problem is not that there's text from another card, but that text from the correct card is cut off.

Did you sell these?  I can't quite figure out how to contact you as I tried to send a PM but then I check my sent messages and there is nothing there.

Honestly, I think $1500 is too much for that Ratz...and your Cracked Animals. Centering and corners/condition are too important.

I agree on both cards.  If this Cracked Animals is up for lower starting bids, I'll definitely participate in the auction up to a point, but it's so badly miscut that I'd always be looking to upgrade it.

The cards you're posting are in above average condition, but just so your expectations are not too high, they appear to be EX/MT (PSA 6 equivalent) at best.

I posted the ones I have doubles of. My father is trying to decide if he wants to send some of them out for grading to PSA or just sell them as is. TBH I think he is becoming more sentimentally attached to them then he thinks he is. 1500.00 prolly is a lot but as far as I can tell it will literally be the only one on the market in any condition and the value of anything is what someone is willing to pay for it.

When he decides whether or not to actually list on ebay, let us know.
