I prefer wackys to stay closer to the original series products and stay away from video games, TV shows, etc.  I realize things must evolve, but hope wackys don't (at least too much).

I agree with crackedjerk.  The occasional Wacky for a book, DVD release or video game that is culturally significant is okay.  Too many and you get oversaturation.  Remember all the magazines back in the original series (was it the 11th?)?  Some were good but many were just stretching it.

At the recent Philly Non Sport Card Show, did any of the Topps Wacky Packages artists talk about plans for Wacky Packages ANS9 for 2012 release?

I agree with crackedjerk.  The occasional Wacky for a book, DVD release or video game that is culturally significant is okay.  Too many and you get oversaturation.  Remember all the magazines back in the original series (was it the 11th?)?  Some were good but many were just stretching it.

I sort of agree here too with Crackedjerk. Things that are too new I feel would be chancy to parody because the actual thing being spoofed might be long forgotten in the future. Looking back on older Wackys, the really cool thing is the identifiablity of the product being spoofed. I think a couple of very important points come into play here when dealing with comedy. 1) That is relatability of the item being spoofed definately makes a joke more liked by many and the other is 2) the sort of somewhat true aspect of that joke (like Easy Cough Oven Cleaner). These things wont happen when a new item losses appeal or favor with many. It will just go forgotten, then people will say, what the hell is that supposed to be spoofing?
