I splurged for ANS8 and purchased a case (8 boxes) that arrived today, I have opened 6 of the boxes thus far and pulled one gold border (CALL OF DOODY) and one sketch card (BLEEDS). My suspicion is the last two boxes will not yield either sketch or gold border so I am going to go ahead and post my eerie Fred Wheaton sketch card.

That is an AWESOME sketch card! The simplicity of the black ink against the red wash background reminds me of German expressionism film posters of the 1920's. That is one to be proud of.

you really should spend some time looking at the base cards someday instead of just at the sketches....

So I broke my piggy bank and went and got a couple more packs. No magnets or tags, just a handful of lousy sketch cards!

Glad to hear it. I think if I were given the time, they'd all be painted this way!

In fact, I'd love to try painting a series of postage stamps. For whatever reason, I'm more comfortable with the smaller canvas size.

WOW They kick serious Wacky Butt !!! Great Work. I still don't understand this whole return card thing except that a regular person has no chance of getting one from a pack. Right?

Those are incredible!!! I especially like that the Bum Chex has your name on the check.

Just curious - how were these offered? Do people commission them? Regardless, thanks for posting for everyone to enjoy!

That's right, return cards do not end up in packs. Each artist gets a designated # of them each series that they are allowed to sell after the release. It helps them make some money since they don't get much for doing the actual retail sketches. It seems to be good for everyone, except now that they are fairly well known so the artists get bombarded with requests, sometimes months before a release!

Neil, I'm curious if there was any direction from Topps in terms of the sketch cards for ANS 8. I heard that for ANS 7 the artists were asked to illustrate the entire Wacky when doing the sketches. Anything like that for 8?

I think they prefer that the whole wacky is portrayed in the sketches because it's easier for collectors to identify the title. So, my guess is that we'll continue this in future ANS series.

I pulled 3 golds and 1 sketch card out of 40 boxes (24 packs each) which is about right according to the odds. I was a little disappointed because I pulled all 4 of them in the first 10 boxes! I thought I was in great shape at that point but then came up dry with the next 30 boxes. Here is my sketch...........

That's pretty good! It's hard to stop though when you get great pulls. The only thing that kinda stinks is the artist should have done non-repeat titles that have been done in OLDS. Although I can't get enough ghouls though...LOL Ghoul Humor is probably one of my all time favorites and I never knew existed until the reruns.

I think so. With 8 of them it's going to be tougher than ANS7, but I guess it's offset by the fact that there are more sketches for this series. I'll try to be patient and wait until prices drop, and they are already starting lower than the last series.

Thanks for posting those! I especially like the humor of trying to use the Wacky products such as Old Spit and Bustedfinger.
