Wow! that is cool!. When will these be available? Why only 1-4 available for pre-order?
-
Topps has a different ad for the binders on their site.

If only series 1-4 binders are available through pre-order, how can we take advantage of the “Lost 17th binder", which is offered for free when you purchase series 1–16?
I think it’s Bigmuc who is still on the lookout for Series 17….
It looks like you get a sketch with every binder, so if you get all 16 binders you get 16 sketches? It will be interesting how much $ these will cost

My brain also jumped to that immediate train of thought. If they are limited, people will want to buy than as soon as possible before they run out. If only 4 are available at first... Seems like a loophole so they never have to produce that LOST 17th Binder.
Perhaps, they will be made available for pre-order, 4 at a time, before any are actually ready to ship. So if you preorder all 16, then you get the extra binder. Boy, if these are even $18 apiece, that there is a pretty penny.

It's going to be expensive to get the whole series. I wonder what the cost will be also. I would imagine they would run about $60+ each just like a box of cards.
-
Looks cool. Free Sketch means at least $49.99 for a binder IMO. OK, I am in. Now I need to come up with $800. Glad they are doing them 4 at a time. I could not handle that outlay all at once.
What do they mean by the last line "Hilarious assortment or wacky ad-style collectible cards and more"?
Andrew

That is a mystery. I can only assume there are other card(s) with the binder. Those binders are going to take up a lot of space!

I hope they make the spines form a billboard the way the Toser's binder do.
Andrew

I wonder if there will be a limit on the amount you can buy?

Gotta say these seem pretty cool.
-

They better limit it to 1 or 2 per person or there will be some unhappy WP people out there.
Also, put them up for pre-order late at night with a decent amount of lead time so we don't get shut out. When hot items go on sale during business hours those of us at work w/o internet / smart phone access get skunked.

That's correct. 16 sketches (one from each binder).

-
They need to offer the binders: individually or buy the first 4 and sign up to purchase 5 -8, 9 -12 and 13 -16 in one month intervals to spread out payments. This type of subscription will let those of us who want them all to lock them in. I would hate to get 1 -12 and miss out on 13 -16. They can paypal invoice us for the future releases.

As with ANS10, Topps can slip these where the Wackys don't shine. Regardless of price (unless they're like $5-10 each, LOL), they will be too much money. I'd rather spend this kind of money on the 4 Roxanne made. I think it's ridiculous to have one per series; and why the f@#$k do they need a sketch to go with them? These are for original series, which had nothing to do with sketch cards. Why can't they just make/sell a binder and leave it at that? Oh, I know why: 'cause nobody would buy it. Corporate America at work....

Roxanne's binders are a thing of beauty, but I will never understand why they have round rings........ :'(
I'll decide when I see the prices, and what the puzzles look like. Might end up buying the puzzles from sketch collectors.

How do you really feel? LOL
I would imagine the sketch and that comes with a series would represent a character from that series. I just hope the sketches are well done and not slopped together quickly. This looks to be a very special limited run so they all should be spectacular.
I'm with Andrew, if I miss out on any volumes I will be pissed. Can you imagine the eBay prices on these? I can see it already - a whole set of limited Wacky binders $10,000.
-

You probably can sell the sketch to pay for the binder. There you go people, free binders! I'm sure I will be buying sketches if they are sold without the binder. I'm sure sellers will break this down.

You raise some valid points.
Also, why do they have to be limited edition?
Edit - I just noticed that these will be signed. Perhaps Topps will also sell non-signed, unlimited editions of these (without sketch cards).
-
Now this is some exciting information! However, for me personally, it could go either way. I'd be interested in buying them if the price were affordable (which for me they probably won't be as there are all the extras included), one could guarantee getting all 16, and if the quality were good (which it seems it will be). Gotta hear more before I decide whether I'd pursue them or not.
I wish Topps would make one large, high-quality D-ring binder to hold all 16 series. It would save lots of money, shelf space, and IMO be more manageable than 16 separate binders.
-
Yep, if these total $800 or something I'm likely out. Was thinking they might be doable but with the sketch cards... Yikes. Also a great idea but so many Wacky things lately the $$$ are a bit low... :o
-
Like I said guys, if you want the binders and don't want to spend too much sell the sketches and or puzzles. You could probably get the whole binder set for free. It's really easy to do. It all depends on what you want from this limited series. There will be a big market for the extras if you only want the binders. We have to wait for mor info from Topps to come up with a buying strategy. All we know is there will be binders, sketches, and a puzzle set with each binder plus these are very limited. Look at how high the NSUpdate binders have sold for. This could turn into an investment. I don't have a lot of extra money to spend but if I can buy 2 of each binders I will go for it. I will hopefully sell the extra set to pay for my first. You know people will be left out of the pre-order due to various reasons that will be on the hunt for these through sellers. I sure hope I'm not the guy missing out on these.

I'm with Brad on the buy the binders, sell the sketches and get your binders for free idea. Not sure I will do that, depends on what the sketches look like, but its an option for those who just want the binder for a low price.

Yeah, I can see the logic behind this idea too - as long as the sketches are high caliber - I definitely like the idea of the binders, just initially mildly apprehensive about the cost and/or availability.

I know we are just speculating at this point... do you think the puzzle for each binder will be the composite picture on that binder? I would also suspect that the sketches in a particular binder would go with the Series that the binder is for. I wonder who is putting the composite picture together... Neil perhaps?

Neil would probably have to answer that. I'm hopeful Neil can share some more info next week.

They get dented too easily for my liking, but I do tend to lay them down a lot. The worst are the Simpsons binders from years ago - they made special shapes stick up above the top, like Bart's hair and the top of Homer's head. Those split along the edges on me. Anyway, the regular kind, like what NSU produced, just seem classier to me.
I'll have to try using my extra postcard binders as a pillow......

Might Topps be selling binders 1-4 as a set to introduce us to the idea of a binder of the month club for binders 5-16 where you only get the bonus lost binder if you subscribe ?
If done correctly this could spread the cost out for a complete set over whatever time period Topps picks, hopefully one more favourable to collectors.

I would say - drop any and all expectations of there being any 'lost' Saunders art. Topps will probably just cobble together the unused pieces we've seen in the Flashbacks and elsewhere. and it'll probably be mostly the unused '91 stuff or the non-reprint die-cuts.
if nothing else, it'll be a nice binder to put the two unofficial "lost wacky" sets into.

I doubt they would throw lost 91 stickers in a lost 17th set. They would need to be from the late 70's time period.

Yes, it would be nice for the Lost Wacky sets. I have one that was made for those, and it's really well done, but the Ovary Show on it kind of wrecks it for me.

both Flashback sets pushed the 60's/70's vibe and the original sets, and yet both had 85 and 91, so I don't see why this should be any different.
basically though, there is absolutely no way there are a couple dozen unknown, unseen 70's pieces, let alone Saunders, still lying around at topps at this point.

Have to agree on this assessment. As hungry as everyone was for ANY new Wacky items in the '80s and '90s, it's hard to imagine any stone has been left unturned. As evidenced by the ANS10 three LOST WACKYS which where titles we have seen before in one form or another. Perhaps a 33 title set can be made of recent ANS, Old School, and Postcard submitted titles that were not initially used, though, those would be more "rejected" rather than "lost" titles.

I think that is a good possibility. Maybe Neil (or someone) created some characters for the binder collage, or maybe culled images from non-1-16 sources, like the Irish set and the can labels. But just a binder, no lost 17th series set in any form.
-
There is a binder special/promotion going on at Topps right now -
But it doesn't include the ANS10 or the new Wacky series 1-17 binders unfortunately.

Where does it say that the binders are signed? I see that they LE binders are limited to only 150 sets. Neil, can you confirm that they will be available in larger quantities without the special inserts (presumably at a lower price)? It would be a real shame if they went to all this trouble making custom binder sets and only 150 people got them...

I'm only aware of the initial release which is indeed just 150 binder sets. Whether or not, they produce a non-limited edition set remains to be seen.

Thanks for the info; I guess I don't get why Topps is only making 150 sets with no "regular" editions without sketches to follow. Seems like they could easily sell 300 to 500 LE sets, which would make Topps more money and make more collectors happy. As it is, I'm envisioning another scramble like the first round of postcards where a fourth of the people on the forum miss out and get really pissed because they have to pay outrageous prices on ebay to get them. Added to that is the staggered release, which means you might get in on the first set and miss one or more of the later ones. I'm just not seeing the logic in this...

The less affordable these things become, the less scrambling you have to worry about.
Blowout Cards still has Ans10 collectors boxes for sale on their site...

Neil, any news about pricing. Also, are they going to be released 4 at a time and if you are one of the people to get the original 1-4, are you going to be guaranteed to get the others or is it always going to be first come first serve. Also, I think Topps should limit it to 1 set per person. I'm in if the price is right and I am guaranteed to be able to get the whole set. However, I would be MORE interested in a regular non-limited edition set without the sketches so that I would DEFINITELY be able to afford as well as obtain all of them. I have already sold back some of my vacation to my employer that I will get a check on in about 3 weeks to come up with some extra cash.

I agree - should be 1 set per address/account/whatever - 150 sets and the full 16+ are likely to be kinda high $$$ including sketch cards - the uncertainty here is kinda crazy! :o

I'm sure its planned for Mother's Day!

No confirmation on pricing, but I'll post an update if/when I get any additional information. I can confirm that they'll be releasing the sets in four groups for a total of 16 binders (four groups of four binders). And of course, the "Lost 17 Series" binder will be released to customers who purchase all 16 binders. Also, there's been mention of limits on the number of binders per person/household but I don't know what that number is yet. Stay tuned...

Has there been any subscription talk, so if you get in on the first set of 4, you're guaranteed the ability to finish the set & won't get stuck with an incomplete set if the release time is a problem?
-
I know this has been said before, but my speculative WAG of the day is that since a LE set of postcards w/sketch is now in the $50-60 range, it seems like each binder w/sketch and all the extras will at least be at that price point – like Brad said, around the price of a box of stickers w/sketch. It seems to me, keeping with this pricing trend, a set of four binders will be $200 - $300
To continue second guessing this whole thing for a moment... Including one sketch for each set of four binders would result in a more reasonable price, maybe $80 - $100. I’d likely be kicked out of the Topps Marketing and Revenue Pipeline Committee for bringing up that idea.
:D
-
Price and the ASSURANCE that if I buy the first four that I will be able to get the other 13 is probably the only way I am in. As others have said, i don't want to have to resort to ebay if for some reason I miss out on a series. I would still rarher just have a NON-LOMITED EDITION as I don't really want to pay for the sketches.
-
Has there been any subscription talk...?
Yes
-
Speaking of speculation. I wonder, when the binders sell out if Topps will offer them again as a plain binder? I sure wouldn't want to risk not getting a set hoping for non-LE binders though.
-

I think Topps knows there are only about 125 hardcore collectors and they will be taken care of with 150 binder sets. Non-Limited Edition sets don't sound likely. Also, if they ARE going to do Non-Limited binders; they hopefully well tell us that BEFORE the Limited ones go on sale..... So that we may make informed decisions.
Andrew

Andrew
I agree with that point entirely. If I had my way, I'd love to see one high quality binder, make it limited if that's Topps' wish, for all 1-16 with a puzzle (though I don't know how you could list all the stickers on the back) and a sketch for us less financially inclined buyers. I'd prefer to pay $100 for something like that than $800-1000 for a set of 17 binders, even though I admit it would be very cool to have 17 puzzles and sketches.
-
I think part of the process of Topps setting a higher price on OS Binders is that Topps is aware that most of us have substantial investments in our OS sets. That will influence us to drop more on binders for those sets as opposed to a binder to house a New series release. OS cards are the bedrock of our hobby. They warrant cool binders.
Andrew

Plans may change in the future, but as of this writing, I don't think there's any plans for a non-limited binder set.

Thanks for the info and thanks for (I'm assuming) looking out for us collectors by encouraging them to put a low limit on these babies.
Does this mean the subscription idea, i.e., guaranteeing the ability to buy the whole run, is out?

Remember Topps loves to ship damaged binders

I just ordered a set at 12:36 Eastern and there still are available. I also purchased a ANS10 binder and used the code towards it.

$260 for 4 binders? Really? Even with all the "extras" that is ridiculous. Hell, the binders for series 5 - 8 will be worth more than the cards they are meant to store. Probably 9 - 12 as well! Sorry, no offense, but spending over $1000 to get a set of these things is idiotic.
I am so done with Topps...
-
Does anyone know how many bonus cards you get with this? It looks to me like the Sketch Card, Certificate, artist Bio card, and 3 monus cards might be part of the puzzle?
The picture on the website only shows 9 cards
-
Too rich for my blood. If anyone is just buying extra binders for the sketches i might be interested in just the binders depending on price.

I was feeling somewhat similar to what you wrote. I did, however, buy a set this morning. Still not sure if it was the right move for me, but they do look incredibly cool. I wish I could see more of what is available and have a guarantee of getting all 17 binders, but I decided to go for it. I suppose time will tell if it was the right move for me, but I do look foward to seeing these.
Speaking of seeing them, has there been a date given for when they will be shipped?

I believe the 9 card sheet is it, there is nothing else.
the front is the puzzle and the back is everything else - a promo, 2 checklists, artist bio, sketch, COA and 3 wacky ads.
-
Neil,
Do you also know if there will be color sketch cards or just B & W?
I think they are actually sketch 'stickers' (and signatures), that are being stuck on to the back of the checklist sheet.
see how the checklist cardboard is that grey/brown color, and those two items are bright white? stickers.

DITTO! I did a quick glance at them and I thought it was $260 for 16 binders and I still had no interest in them.

I also wonder if these are just mock-ups (or whatever the right marketing term is). You know, something constructed to show what the end product will look like but short of them having the actual product yet.
-
I think is a bit Cheap of them not to make the Sketch card a standard style card, how much could one extra standalone card cost? To stick it on the back of the puzzle is a bit cheap & tacky especially for something that costs that much in my opinion. Its like getting half a sketch card

I'm not so sure about that. I just looked at the picture again and I could enlarge it this time. It looks different than this morning so they must have changed the image. It still looks like one full sheet but that could be just the image. It looks like the bonus cards are numbered so I wonder how many there are total and if they really are cards? Topps needs to give us more detail.

I thought the same thing when I placed my pre-order. I thought $260 was an incredible deal for 17 binders, 17 sketches. etc. Silly me!!! I just cancelled my pre-order. Too rich for my blood.

As much as I love Wackys and the superb work of the current artists, I am passing on the binders for many of the same reasons outlined by others above. I would have expected separate sketch cards - these appear really "cramped" to me. Also reading each binder contains "one of nine different artist bio cards" - I'm not chasing stuff like this anymore - good luck to the complete-ists!
Even if the cost weren't an issue (which it definitely is imo), these are just not interesting enough for me. And I have to say - and maybe this is just me - but the cost plus the fact that once committed you're going to want to get them all seems too manufactured for my liking.
I hope they sell out and everyone who bought them really enjoys them. I'm going to spend the $$$ on filling the original series stickers I'm missing instead.
-

they'll probably cut the sheet up into 9 cards, making it more like the original puzzle pieces.
I can't imagine folks breaking up the 9 card set to sell individual pieces though, since it's all integrated.
would anyone really sell the center square as a sketch card?
if there's 3 bonus per sheet, there's at least 48. I see one of them is numbered 35, so that would track out.

They are kind of expensive I grant you that but Topps generally puts out a nice product. We always have to go back and forth trying to figure out more details but when the final product arrives at our doors it's usually a good experience. With only 150 made I don't want to be left out if these turn out to be more than what we expected.

Called 1-866-374-8266 and got my 20% off entire order (added ANS10 binder) ....all who make this initial order will receive an advanced Email on the next set of Binders
so they do not miss them....no subscriptions. (bought 2 sets) ....took a little bite out anyway LOL

Yes, selling the sketch would break up the puzzle so I don't see people doing that, but what do I know :]? I can also see people selling a set of the bonus cards too. There will be collectors only looking for the bonus cards so I'm sure there will be a few non-complete binder sets in the future.
One thing that will be interesting to see is how sellers break these up because nothing can be complete until Nov. when you get the final binders.
-

it's ugly, but not quite that ugly.
each series has just 1 artist bio card. and across all 17 binders, you'll end up with 9 different bios (with most duped)
but there aren't 9 different for each binder.

To confirm, each binder includes nine separate standard-size (3 1/2" x 2 1/2") cards (not stickers) that emulate the look and feel of the original series. The opposite sides make up a 9-piece collage-style puzzle.

THEY SHOULD ALL BE COLOR FOR THAT PRICE!!TELL'EM (TOPPS) TOO MAKE THE NEXT TRANCHE OF BINDERS HAVE ALL COLOR SKETCHES OR AT LEAST THE LAST TRANCHE...NOW THAT WOULD BE COOL!!! :] :] :]

I think I solved the mystery of the 17th series binder, after all of this is over and you have plunked down $1040 you will have a set of 48 cards you can put into Binder #17.

I would rather see a "traditional" looking sketch card, portrait color card, this looks like they skimped out in order to put the puzzle on the back.

I don't think so because as Neil stated the cards will have the puzzle on the other side so it would break up the puzzle.
-
I just ordered my set. Kinda pricey, but apparently you do get 4 sketch cards with the 4 binders, so that adds quite a bit of value. Hopefully these sketches will be more on the high end in terms of the quality we've seen in recent releases. I did not see anything about a "subscription" though...
-
Well then in your binder you could include:
1 9 piece Puzzle
45 other bonus cards
8 other artist Bio cards
This would make a 62 card set that would include each unique card excluding sketch and certificate variants.
-
Hopefully these sketches will be more on the high end in terms of the quality we've seen in recent releases.
Totally agree! Also hope the sketches correlate to original series characters in the sets the binders are for.
Considering the releases are spaced a couple of months apart, and compared to an old school release in the order of 5000 this is much smaller at 600, hopefully it will make it easier on the artists by not having to rush for a major release all at once and have the sketch quality suffer. I'd much rather pay for quality than quantity.
When you compare the binders to an old school release, you get 24 packs + a sketch card for about $50. Here, you're getting a binder + sketch + some other bonus cards for $60. Not that much different value wise. The only difference being, you can buy 2 or 3 olds boxes & be done with the series. Here, you're kinda roped into buying 16. If the product is top notch, you'll long forget about the price after you're enjoying the artwork.
-
I just noticed that the description says the binder covers are made of a "retro cloth style material." I'm not quite sure what that would be like, but perhaps it's a higher-end process than a standard plastic binder. Should make them more unique...
-
I have to agree about the price. I bought a set just to see what they'll be like. I've been collecting Wackys since 1973. I used to go to the shows in Philly and Parsippany (forgive me Ernie if I misspelled it), and I've probably traded with many of you on the forum. I stopped attending the shows after my kids about 5 years old, but I kept buying ANS and OS up through ANS9. I have yet to buy anything ANS10. The prices are just too high to keep it up for something that I enjoyed as a kid, but now they just sit in a closet in my office. I've got a couple of uncut sheets on my wall, but the rest of it is just collecting dust these days. I used to collect baseball cards too, but I saw where greed from Topps and the other manufacturers ruined that hobby in the early '90s. It's sad to see that Topps is apparently doing it again with a great product. The kids can't afford 'em anymore. When we were kids and the packs were 5 cents, we could save our allowance, ride our bikes up to the store, and hopefully collect the entire series before the next one came out. Our kids won't ever get to experience those days. Topps, you're just one generation before shooting yourself. When the kids don't participate in the hobby anymore, they don't grow up to get their kids involved. It's sad.
-

KIND OF expensive?
Dude, do you have a money printer in your basement? You buy up cases of ans10 collector boxes as if they were loaves of bread.
I'm trying to justify to myself buying a single box of the ans10 collector series...
-

Neil said they wouldn't be vinyl. That news gets me more excited now. I think if collectors miss out on these they will be disappointed. They are going to be really nice!

we have some really old binders like that still being used around the office. all of them are a thin blue denim-like cloth adhered to board.
it would be entertaining to hear how these are made. is the art printed on the cloth which is then glued to the boards? printed afterwards somehow?
-

No, I have a money printer right here on my desk...LOL
I do have some money invested (spent) on ANS10. I went a little crazy on sketches. I don't think I've made it a mystery. I have sold a ton of ANS10 stuff in the first 3-4 weeks. We are talking $1000's of $$. I sold off all my plates, artist auto's, ludlows, & extra lost and bonus stuff. I've only retained all the variations of Reepers. After most of the dust has cleared I think I ended up spending around $1200 on ANS10 and all of that has to do with buying sketches on ebay.
Why not buy 2 sets of binders? Sell one set and use the profit to pay for your keeper set? It's not rocket science and with only 150 made I'm sure you will see the value of these go up quite a bit. I've been wrong before though... :] :]
-

Two sets of binders will run me $2,235 with tax, assuming the postage is free. Who's going to pay me that to cover my keeper set?

You might be surprised. These could end up selling for $100+ each after 1-17 have been released. There will be people who missed out and may not have even known about them. Even if they sell for $100 each you would only have $500 invested in your set. You might even do better because the lost wacky binder could be the one that is really sought after?
It's all speculation but at $100 that is only $35 over the retail value so it's not a huge markup. No one knows yet. If these sold out in a couple minutes I would probably say they would sell easily over $100 each. I just don't think a lot of people know about this yet. There are a lot of collectors that don't even look at our forum.
I'll throw one more thing out. Remember when postcards had a run of 200. Quite a few unopened packs sold initially for around $200 on ebay. The draw was people missing out on the initial order. These binders have a lower QTY.
-

I hear ya, but as nifty as a product that this might be, there is no way I could justify spending that much money on binders when I have 4 fully-functional D-ring binders that house my 1-16 quite nicely (cards, puzzles, printouts of various articles, posts, and pictures saved over the years of the forum, special keepsakes, etc etc etc). Topps has gone off the deep end moreso than the NRA, imho. Even if I had a grand to toss around like it was a dollar, I don't think I'd buy them on principle--that's just an insanely ridiculous price. Shame on Topps.

I think this is going to be more of a collectable and a keepsake than a regular binder would be. Each binder comes with a COA and is numbered. I guess I don't look at it like I would a regular binder Topps puts out.

Are you saying that calling the number got you 20% off your order? Or did you have a code? I did try the code, but as others stated, it didn't work. Makes me want to cancel my pre-order and order again, but this time throw in an ANS10 binder or something.

I tried the code when adding an ANS10 binder, and while the code was accepted vs rejected, the discount was only applied against the ANS10 binder, and nothing else.

I told them I had a 20% off code that for some reason didn't get accepted the first time ($520), I would like to have that fixed, and also add the purchase of ANS10 binder....
total was $432 when done. (also kept him off guard with other questions about the series LOL......went through with paypal refund....that might be key....the code is the
same for all.....he did ask me if I had ever used the code before....may not keep records..............

-
probably not for a couple of weeks, right?
I really have no idea but I think it will be soon, like next week. Topps has been behind on a few things lately so it could be anyones guess. I really can't wait to see these.
I'm also really surprised these haven't sold out yet. I know price is a factor but you don't have to commit to the other volumes. I thought this would sell out within an hour with only 150 but the only advertising I know of is the forum. It might show that the forum members only make up a small fraction of Topps sales? When we ask Topps to help us out with getting first dibs on new releases maybe they are considering the lower volume of sales from the forum members? I don't have any statistics to back this but if we have 150 forum members buying then these would have sold out today.
You never know with a new product because it could be the offering or price. I also imagine these binders are not cheap to make along with paying the artists. Topps is making a profit but I think they do some of these on-off type projects from suggestions by the artists. They are fans too. Each binder cover is a painting by the artists and not Photoshopped. This is a labor of love. I hope Topps auctions off the original art. If you think the binders are expensive wait to see the selling price of the original art.

We still have several of those kinds of binders at work. They hold log book pages for construction applications going back decades, and are labeled on the spines and fronts with black magic marker. No fancy labels required!!

This debate about the future value of these and their investment opportunity is really hard to predict. To Brad's points, I could see the series 1-4 binders being worth more than their (arguably high) intial selling price. There are several things they have going for them:
1). Very low quantity - 150 is a very low number for something this elaborate and difficult to manufacture.
2). Original series sticker sets have far more monetary and sentimental value than ANS sets. If you look at the cost of the binder relative to the value of the stickers inside, it's easier to justify a one-time spend of $60 for a nice presentation book.
3). Roxanne's binders from years ago still command high prices on ebay, and these look to be far nicer and include unique inserts and a sketch card.
4). The long-term collector value of original series material seems stable, unlike ANS stuff that drops like a rock a few months after its release.
5). Once these are released and start showing up on ebay, there may be a high demand if they're really nice. Then people who ordered the later sets will feel obligated to pay whatever it takes to backfill the first 4 binders in their collection.
Of course, it all depends on how well these are made and if they inserts themselves have any perceived value. It's also hard to tell if the later series binders will be worth as much, as not as many people collected series 13-16 as kids and if you were only going to buy one set, I'd think it would be 1-4. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I'm in it because I really like having designed binders for my card sets; not for their resale value. But at this price, you'd hope that you could at least make your money back if you wanted to sell them later.
-
Two sets of binders will run me $2,235 with tax, assuming the postage is free. Who's going to pay me that to cover my keeper set?
For that price I'd be seriously looking into buying silver.
-
Seems like any chance of selling individual pieces is shot though, since the COA, sketch, etc., are all part of the puzzle.
That's true. The individual cards will need to be kept intact because splitting up the puzzle won't make sense. The sketch cards with the binders won't be peddled like other sketch cards. They are just part of the puzzle backs. These card sets should be kept together, but it would be pretty cool to have them all in the same binder if you get the complete run of them.
I just don't see any practicality in actually using the binders for my collection because there's just too many of them relative to the # of cards going inside. I would love to see one or two large binders for the entire 1-16 series with tab pages pre-inserted by series, with some cover art by Topps on each.
-
Hi Neil,
Can you clarify one thing for me?
Regarding the artist bio cards, is there an artist designated specifically
for each of the 16 (and eventually 17) binders? What I mean is, we're not
just going to get a random bio card put in with each binder, and run the
risk of getting 17 binders and not have at least a full set of 9 bio cards?
That would royally be my luck :(
For example, you may be the exclusive artist for series 1, Smokin' Joe may
be exclusive to series 2, Slamjim for series 3, et cetera et cetera...
Just want to make sure that if one eventually purchases the full set, we wouldn't
run any chance of missing out on anything.
Thanks,
Paul

I think I disagree with the consensus that these 9 card sets will not be broken apart, you only need one puzzle and people are nuts for Sketch cards so I think they will be broken apart...time will tell

My guess is that it's 1 puzzle per binder (or series), so pulling any sketch out of a puzzle will orphan that puzzle. It also means that you can't really put the bio cards together in a set, or the wacky ads since pulling them from their original puzzle to make that set will break up the puzzle for the series. This may lead people to try and buy extra puzzles so they can build a complete puzzle set, and then a wacky ads set, a bio set, a sketch collection, checklist set etc... That would be crazy expensive, and I would think it would also be kind of difficult considering the amounts produced.
But when you think about it, it's no more expensive or crazy than putting together an ans gold set, or red ludlow backed set. People typically pay between $50 and $100 for a single gold or ludlow to try and complete the set. Here, you're getting the puzzle - consisting of 3 wacky ads, bio card, sketch card & checklist (+ a few promos) & a nice binder for $65. I think these sets may end up being chopped, sold, combined & collected in as many different ways as you can imagine.

I agree - I suspect that some people only want the binders and will sell of all the exclusive cards to recoup the cost of the binders. If you want to be a purist, none of the new checklists, sketches or other inserts really belong in a binder full of 1973-era Wackys, so you could sell them off without a lot of regret. Conversely, there are probably some collectors who would like to have the inserts but really don't want individual binders for each series (most people are happy putting 4 sets in a binder; 17 binders would take up a lot of space).
-
Remember, each binder will have all the characters from that series so I can see people wanting the whole set instead of a few. It would be a whole collection of all the wacky characters.

Hi Neil,
Can you clarify one thing for me?
Regarding the artist bio cards, is there an artist designated specifically
for each of the 16 (and eventually 17) binders? What I mean is, we're not
just going to get a random bio card put in with each binder, and run the
risk of getting 17 binders and not have at least a full set of 9 bio cards?
That would royally be my luck :(
For example, you may be the exclusive artist for series 1, Smokin' Joe may

Hi Paul,
You're correct. Each binder is painted by one artist. What that means is that the cards in each series pertains to that particular artist (bio card, sketch card and COA). Nothing random about it!

can you clarify if the puzzle/checklist paper stock is white, and the checklist side is being printed with that grey/brown 'cardboard color' tone everywhere except the sketch card 'window', leaving that spot nice and white for the sketches?
or is the paper stock grey/brown, and the sketch is done on white adhesive paper that's then stuck to the checklist card?
or is that picture on the topps site widely inaccurate compared to the finished product?

All of the checklists are printed to emulate the classic style of cards, ie, the look and feel are as close as possible to the original series. Also, the sketches are drawn directly on the card.

Any idea how close (or far) they are to selling out? I'm curious due to the extremely low volume and high price.

I hadn't seen this posted yet. Received this email from Topps today showing the subsequent binder availabilty dates:

I think they needed more information, such as:
1. If you buy the first 4, do you have a subscription to guarantee subsequent sets?
2. How can you be sure you'll get the 17th binder? As asked above, is this a subscription?
3. How does numbering work?
4. A sample of a puzzle front
Just my 2 cents.

I think it's:
1. No, there are no subscriptions.
2. Topps will keep track, you can count on it. Hopefully. Maybe.
3. Which numbering? there are numbers written on one of the checklist cards, that one?
4. the binder cover picture is the puzzle, right?

Yeah, Topps' track record with me isn't good for customer service, so I have my doubts about items 1 and 2.
The "COA" shows a handwritten limited edition set number, but there are other numbers shown on 3 other cards..... Maybe a full set of binders gets a set of those numbers?
I didn't see anything that said the puzzle was of the binder art. Maybe it is, but it would be cool if they created a new title.
Seems to me it's crazy to give such incomplete information for such an expensive product.
-
Neil said if you buy the first 4 Topps will send you an email when the next 4 are available so its not a subscription but you are in the club. Keep an eye on your spam folder.

HaHa, ya, it seems like the more we know the less we really know. Topps seems to like to all this secrecy. They are worse than Apple. At least Apple tells you every detail when a product is announced. Maybe not so much bad customer service as horrible product marketing.

I canceled my order within a few hours of ordering yesterday and I still did NOT get email confirmation that my order was canceled. Yet...my credit card was charged! >(

Why did you cancel? Topps email notification system has been on the blink for several weeks now. I ordered some stuff 2 weekends ago and didn't receive a shipping notification and then last Friday my stuff showed up.
-
3. How does numbering work?
[in my best Leslie Nielsen] 1,2,3...but that's not important now.

that's my guess. those are the 3 'wacky ads', and they are not consecutively numbered for some reason. So instead of series 1 having 1, 2, 3, it has 3, 18, 35

As cool and limited these binders are, I just can't afford to buy a complete series of binders. I collect a lot of other things - Star Wars toys, Blu-Rays, Batmobiles, Star Trek ships, as well as other trading card sets. Have to sacrifice something. Hard to be a completist these days.
-
Perhaps the reason these haven't sold out is that according to the sales info you are to get:
9 card puzzle
COA
Sketch card
Bio card
3 Wacky-ad cards (I would interpret this as postcard sized die-cut cards like the Wacky Ads)
Total of 15 additional items.
Add a quality binder and the limited qty and it sounds like a good deal.
Then we find out all of the additional items are just printed on the back of the puzzle including the sketch card - LAME!!!
Unfortunately, I fell for their marketing and bought 2 sets. Now I'm having buyers remorse.
-
Anybody know how to cancel your order? I tried calling and their message box is full (obviously everyone else is cancelling their orders as well).
-
I don't have a problem with the Puzzles having the other items on their backs.
No canceling here.

I think it is a strange that this binder set is targeted at such a small limited audience (hard-core collectors) and that Topps made such a drastic change – to put the sketch, bio card, etc, on the back of the puzzle. Personally, I prefer the white background, and believe most collectors, if given the choice, would choose the normal format over the cardboard. The art just doesn't pop against the cardboard. Don't mean to be a Negative Nancy...

I would have preferred that the puzzle was separate from the misc. bonus cards, but I still want the set so I won't cancel my order.

I would also prefer to have the bonus cards/sketch separate from the puzzle to not feel guilty about breaking up the puzzle. It's not like there will be an extra 5,000 puzzles floating around as in olds or 10s of thousands as in os. It will be interesting to see how these are sliced and diced when they come out. Apparently there is enough product out there, even at these low quantities, since we are over 48 hours into the sale and they are still available.
I wonder if they will lift the quantity restriction since everyone has had fair warning.

The picture in the ad has the puzzle back looking like it is an uncut panel of 9 cards, so there might not even be a choice about breaking up the puzzles.

that's a rare 'uncut' sheet. ;)
I guess I'm kind of torn. on one hand it would be cool to have an uncut puzzle sheet. on the other, having the puzzle cut up is just like originals and OLDS - get to put them in a 9 card sheet and all that jazz.

if you look at the pic that was posted, the sketch is done on a white area, not on a dull grey like the rest of the sheet. looks like it'll be close to the normal format and the art will pop like usual.

Very surprised the week is ending and these are still available. I guess I won't be skipping a mortgage payment with the proceeds from my second set. :)
I will probably sell one set of just binders and sell the 9 card insert sets so those who just want inserts can get them without dropping $260. One reason I am psyched to get two sets is I can choose my four keeper sketches from the two sets. I hope these arrive before the next pre-order so I can evaluate if I want to purchase two sets again next time around.

I wonder if there is a number on the actual binder that matches the COA? I also wonder if all 4 volumes we receive will all be the same number? You probably couldn't separate them if that is the case?

Uncut panels can be cool! I have a beautiful Star Wars Galaxy panel of 6 foils. A couple of others, too.
If the puzzles with the binders are individual pieces, people might be able to trade sketches without wrecking their puzzles. Otherwise, they might want to keep their numbered "COAs" together. Who knows? And, we still don't know what's on a single puzzle front.

My guess is that the puzzles will be different for each binder. With that being said, the sketches should be interchangeable between puzzles so that will give you a pick of 2 sketches per binder if you don't plan on breaking up any puzzles.
-
I hear ya, but as nifty as a product that this might be, there is no way I could justify spending that much money on binders when I have 4 fully-functional D-ring binders that house my 1-16 quite nicely (cards, puzzles, printouts of various articles, posts, and pictures saved over the years of the forum, special keepsakes, etc etc etc). Topps has gone off the deep end moreso than the NRA, imho. Even if I had a grand to toss around like it was a dollar, I don't think I'd buy them on principle--that's just an insanely ridiculous price. Shame on Topps.
I agree with you. I'm disappointed that Topps is charging so much for these. The binders look very cool, but between the space they take up, the price, and the inconvenience of not having a separate sketch card- definitely not worth the price.
-

Aren't these only 1" binders? That would only take up less than 2' of shelf space? There is a lot of speculation. Sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith that a product will be really cool. I haven't been disappointed with any of Topps offerings except, maybe, the ANS posters. They weren't limited but I think it was a fail for Topps.

I'm with you Brad, take a leap of faith, I suggested here on the Forum , a while back, Topps put out a binder for the Original Wacky's & here they are. If they are not up to the standard you all think they should be then sell them. If they are outstanding & you don't get them you will be wondering about what you missed out on. Over priced? Yes, but so what, for me I said the heck with it & ordered 2sets, can I afford it, not really but I'm not missing out. So there's my 2 cents. I don't comment to often but I am always checking in.
-

Even if they stack up to @ 16" total that's still a lot of space compared to the 2.5" binder I have my 1-15 series in.
With me though it has more to do with the logistics of how you would want to view or show your collection to someone else. Would you rather they all be in one large binder where you can flip through one series at a time, or would you rather have to keep putting one binder down and grab the next one with each series? To me that's a no brainer. If I displayed all of my collection on a series to series basis I would need a lot more space for it.
-
It looks like Topps may have lifted the quantity limit per household/credit card (probably because these things aren't moving as fast as they thought they would) . That said, it looks like there may only be #23 remaining before they finally sell out. That was the cutoff number it let me put in my cart before I got a message stating the quantity limit was exceeded. I imagine these will be sold out in the very near future. If you're still on the fence, this might be your last chance (outside of eBay).

I tried & got the same 23 available. I wonder if they put all 150 up for presale and 23 are all that's left, or if the 23 left are just for a presale allotment and more will be available for sale after they are released.
-
Thanks for the info. I just ordered 2 more binder sets. I still think these will be really nice and a lot of people will miss out. I know I should order more and I may if they are still available by Friday. I guess I look at it as no different than buying 16 boxes of OLDS4 with my 4 binder orders. I obviously don't need that many binders but I'm hoping for resale value in the future. I'm sure ill be kicking myself for not ordering more now but if I can recoup my costs it will be well worth it. It's a total crap shoot.

I think that is it. Now down to 21 and done for binders. Plus you will be in the binder club to get the others. Some people will not have the funds when the next volumes are sold so Topps may have a few extras. I still contend that people will be going crazy to buy the next volumes once they see the first 4. eBay will be the only avenue.

I guess one side benefit of buying a bunch of binders is that you will have your pick of that many sketch cards. They should be interchangeable among puzzles, so you can pick the nicest, rearrange & sell off the others. I really hope the sketches are nice considering the lower quantity release & higher price. If they are good, that will certainly help support the price they are charging.
-

I don't see why any re-arranging is needed? just sell the whole puzzle of the one you don't want and keep the puzzles that you do.
interchanging between collectors can be a benefit, as you'd only exchange single sketch cards instead of all 9 cards.
that is, unless topps has gone so far as to re-create the imprecise cutting of the original series, where no two puzzle cards seemed to be cut exactly the same.

The sketches should be all high quality. I believe the artists are Camera, Wheaton, Gross, Engstrom, Simko, Kirscht, & Smokin' Joe. Remember each artist only had to do 150 sketches for their binder.
-
Has anyone actually been told we will get an email with a purchase link? I was told they would send an email to those who purchased letting them know what date and time the next batch goes up for sale. No link was promised, just a heads up. I think their records will only come into play when the last of the binders are sold and they will ship you series 17 binders at no cost (1 for every set you purchased)

9 binder sets left on topps website.
-
I'd add two more sets as I have been trying to cancel my order for the past week. Sent email, called numerous times and nobody is ever around. No matter what time of day you call the message says they are closed. I guess they charged everyones credit card and left the country.

I also asked about buying the subsequent binders and he was very spotty with his answer. He said we will get notification when the next batch is released. I asked him if we will get first dibs on them and he couldn't answer me because he didn't know for sure. I told him it would be helpful if we can buy them before they go on sale to the public so we can get all 16 binders along with the free 17th. He said we will keep track. So I don't know what to tell you guys?

but I think it would be amazingly cool to use the original 7th series checklist art on the 7th series binder cards. (correcting the typo, of course)
seeing the inferior art that actually got used just reminds of the inferior art on the cards that weren't painted by Saunders.

You could probably scan and stitch together. I will have to try and see but I think the binder may be too big for the scanner.
Since they don't fit nicely on the scanner it won't work. It looks really bad. Plus Topps cut off the middle of the artwork.

Neil asked me to post this:
the new Wacky binders will go on sale tomorrow (Thursday) 11:00 am eastern time. Also, each order contains a free gift and you get free shipping. Limit one per person/per household.
Also, I've been told to ensure the smoothest transaction, limit your order to just the new wacky binders.

No problem limiting the order - another $280 now is an awful lot right after the postcards!!

I'm a bit confused because I thought the people that bought before would get first dibs on the next series. What if a person gets shut out and then they have no chance on getting the 17th binder? It doesn't make any sense.

And what about people who brought two sets (the initial limit) last time? Shouldn't they have first dibs on getting 2 sets this time?
I bought my 2 sets via 2 different orders, but may not get 2 this time around....I had wondered how Topps were going to keep track of all this
and 'police' the buyers....

Note, I just got word that it's a limit of two per person/per household (not one).

My recollection is that they aren't keeping track of who purchased prior so they get first "dibbs". They we're discussing a subscription service kind of thing but I thought the word that came back was that they weren't going to do that.

I guess we'll have to provide receipts or order numbers in order to qualify for a free binder #17 when the time comes.

I am pretty sure they have record of who makes all 4 release purchases but it's not a bad idea to keep your receipts where you can find them easily.
I was referring to the initial discussion about people wanting a guarantee that they could get all 4 releases with a subscription type service, and they decided not to do that.

Now that we are halfway through the binder sales it would be nice to hear a little more about Lost 17th Series Binder and what might be created to fill it?
Maybe Neil can shed some light on this. I am purchasing two of each binder so hope to acquire 2 of the 17th binders. Can we hear who is doing the art for the the last binder?
The puzzles give info about each of the 16th series. What will the puzzles contain for the 17th? Will they even include puzzles/ sketches with the 17th binder?
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I don't have any info about the 17th series binder as of yet...

I'd rather be surprised. I really have no desire to have anything about the 17th binder spoiled anytime soon.
knowing/not knowing won't change my purchase habits, but it would take all the thrill out of opening the package in several months.

I can't see a Lost 17th Binder made without them also making a set to go with it. The set will probably be sold on the site with the binder only being available to those who purchased the full set of 16. Why make a binder and not produce anything to go in it?

yeah, I pulled that from what was posted on the Wacky Packages Facebook page.
why all of us that have ordered the previous sets haven't gotten the promised early 'heads-up' is anyones guess.
-
It is odd, especially since we've been led to believe that buying the first 4 sets is required to get the 17th binder. At least with these (so far, anyway) we don't seem to have to worry about them selling out in an hour while we're at work, unable to order.......

Does anyone know if the 17th binder is given free to those who purchased the 1st 4 sets & NOT available for sale otherwise, or would otherwise be available for sale for those that don't get it free. I'm figuring getting these binders on ebay is cheaper than from topps, so is that 17th binder worth the premium of buying the binders new from topps, and not just buying from ebay & purchase the 17th binder from ebay or topps.

My guess would be Topps will charge us for the 17th Series Binder so if you've been buying the sets all a long at $260.00 , the final set will be $320.00. They got us reeled in. Also why is this all HUSH HUSH !!!

I highly doubt we will pay anything for the 17th Binder if we purchased all of the other ones and I don't expect it to be sold separately. Anything can happen but it sounded like the 17th binder was basically a promo item made to help ensure robust binder sales.

Not that I have any vested interest in this whatsoever, but, unless Topps has changed their mind along the line, the 17th binder is free to those who purchase 1-16. Look at the original ad, bottom right:

I took it differently, based upon this quote of yours: "I highly doubt we will pay anything for the 17th Binder if we purchased all of the other ones"...
This came across to me as if you weren't sure that the 17th was free with purchase of 1-16. Sorry if I can't interpret your thoughts vs. your actual words.
I will now stay out of this topic.

Brad, Since you purchased the binders you were sent email updates over time by Topps to alert you as to
when the next binder releases would be put on sale. That was promised to you by Topps. I am sure you missed
them like all of us did but I am sure they sent them as Topps always delivers on its promises.

Keep the colored sketches info on the down low. You don't want word getting out or they will sell out too fast.

DARN............I WAS GOING TO ORDER BINDERS 1 THRU 12 x 2

While i never jumped on this wagon because of the price i do really like them.
It's depressing as hell to see that some people are selling off just the puzzles and then binders to make a little more money off them
The puzzles don't seem to get much more then $25 anyway,it's a shame, they should stay together as sets.
my 2 cents

Sweet collectible binders..but I couldn't imagine putting a series 16 set in such a thing :o

I have put my series 1 - 8 in the binders and have had enough extra rooms to put ANS1 - 8 in the same binders. I will keep going with that thru ANS11 and put my Flashback rel 1 and 2 and reprints / album stickers in 12 - 16.

Series 11 is the best in my opinion. For some reason I have a soft spot for series 11. I'm thinking it was the last series I collected but I remember buying some series 12 & 13. Maybe it was all the magazine gags? Also Planet of the Grapes was in the series and I loved the Apes.

Got my 9 - 12 Binder set ordered. Neil, Any idea if they will move the 4th Set to Dec as this one was held up one month?
I believe the original schedule had the 4 set coming in Nov.
If they will be pushed back to Dec. it would be nice to know that now.
Please advise.
Thanks, Andrew

When the binders have all been produced and delivered, Topps should release a set of posters with the artwork from the binders. They could release them as 11x14 sized posters, like the ones just released. I may not be able to get the binders (just too much money for me), but I could probably get a set of 16 posters (with 17th binder as bonus poster). They could release them on Wacky Packages Appreciation Day (April 1st). The above posted pieces of artwork are too cool, not to print as posters. $80 for the set would be perfect. Just an idea.

I was thinking why not a wall poster with all 16 series on it?! You could decorate an entire room with wacky wallpaper!

While not what i was thinking...i was thinking of doing a very large wacky themed sketch on one of my walls that needs painting. If the sketch turns out ok i may just leave it.
Pictures if it happens, but then again pipe dreams usually just get smoked.

Here's my 11th series painting...

I love series 11 and you did it well! I love how the Sleepy magazine title is on the left side of the binder just like the magazine. Pure genius !

Hoping my binders will come today. I will be placing old and new series in the same binders and moving to flashbacks beginning with series 12.
I only got one set this time so fingers crossed that I like the sketches I get. Last two releases I could pick from two sets but now there is not much re-sale ability on these so I just purchased one set. I was able to recoup my outlay for my second set before. I don't think that is possible now with four binders going for $60 to $70 and a set of puzzles pulling around $120.

Got mine last night - they are real nice!! although I think all the sketches for these SHOULD BE IN COLOR - due to the limited quantity, cost outlay, and size of sketch - HINT HINT!!
The sketches are real nice due to the size the artists had to work with...

Hustler, just trying to make sure I understand your meaning... are you saying that the sketches are nice considering the size limit the artists had to work with or was this meant as a sarcastic statement? Not busting your chops in any way... just wanted to be sure of the intended message.

not being sarcastic - this time!!! ;D ;D
I meant: the sketches are nice considering the size limit the artists had to work with. I would have liked them bigger and in color of course...

Just wondering outloud... how many instances do you think there will be where a person ended up buying a complete 1 through 16 set of binders? Several have mentioned buying multiples earlier on but now dropping down to one order. If/When the 17th binder is produced, seems like there will be an abundance of them not associated with complete runs. I guess Topps will simply sell the remaining single binders in that case rather than them being a freebie for complete set buyers.

I have no idea. I bought 2 sets of 1-8 and these things take up a lot of room. They were not a run-a-way hit like I thought they would be. Even with the small number of production there is an auction for 1-8 for $130 and no one is jumping on it. I just looked at completed auctions and 7 binders were sold auction style and all 7 went for a total of around $12. How sad is that? $.99 binders. If I would have seen the auctions I probably would have bid just to get them so cheap. I paid more for the crappy wacky folders at Walgreens a while back.
I don't know why they weren't a big hit. I, personally, think it's the spines. I have 1-8 on my shelf and it looks boring. I love the artwork but you don't see the artwork unless you pull out a binder. The spines could have been really cool. A total cool design if you have all 17 next to each other.

Just got my binders and put them on the shelf. The display reminds me of the "Off The Air" designs TV's stations used to display after 3 am.

exactly. whoever thought it'd be a good idea to mask the art with blank areas doesn't know a damned thing about design. this single-handedly killed my enthusiasm for these binders and probably for a lot of other folks as well.

I know because I have read a few books on Jobs and he would say this a lot!

Wow - The more I see and hear about these binders, the more I am glad that I wasn't duped into spending over $1k on them.
-
The should send those who purchased a set a sheet of stickers for each letter in the WP logo as well as small stickers with WP characters on them (3 for each series) . Then we could decorate the spines of the binders ourselves. That would at least be a small gesture to rectify the large miss that leaving the spines blank has become..

Yes, the spines are a big disappointment but the artwork on the front and back is spectacular. I think you are right that it would be cool if Topps sent us some stickers for the spines.

Here's 2 painted binder return cards for the 11th series. Sleepy sold. 4 blanks available for customs.

OMG! Those look awful on a shelf. My homemade ones look spectacular in comparison. Glad I passed on these....not that I could have afforded these in the first place.
-

Wreaks of something designed by committee. There were probably several meetings to decide what should be on the spines and then "committee constipation" ruled the day. No decision could be agreed upon, and we ended up with this. In all fareness, if the original artwork had been left on the spines, the resulting side by side appearance would have been fairly chaotic, but it still would have been prefered to the current resulting blandness.
-
And to topp it off, the 11 is a different color than the rest? Unbelievable.
-
The only way that Topps could redeem themselves in this fiasco is if there really is a lost 17th series with 30 Norm originals that we have never seen before. But even then, I would only have a slight twinge of regret in not getting these.
-
And to topp it off, the 11 is a different color than the rest? Unbelievable.
Before these were released, I thought there was a mention that binder colors would reflect the wrapper for each series. The main binder color similar to the main wrapper color and the numbers the same color as the Wacky Packages lettering but this didn't hold true for some of the earlier binders where all numbers are yellow rather than orange as found on some of the wrappers. So I assumed they decided to stick with all yellow numbers for aesthetic reasons. Then they threw the red 11 in.

don't worry, I'm sure there will be scores for sale on the online site sitting unsold for years.
they never said the 17th was exclusive to those that bought the rest of the set, just that it would be free for those that did.

I don't know how Topps is tracking the binder buyers but whoever has been buying them all should be the only ones to get the 17th binder, non for sale other than that. If 55 sets were sold than 55 binders should be printed.
-
and what's going on with the Flash Cards info? it's being dumbed down now.
series 12 says 'Midget Rice and Fool-Aid are believed to be lost titles'
believed to be? wth? it's a fact. along with Frosted Ice Krunkles. why are they playing stupid with this stuff?

They also never said the 17th Binder would be available to those who did not get a complete binder set. Time will tell. My sense is that the ONLY way you will get a 17th binder is to have purchased the set and the it is a special bonus item made to incentivize us to get all the binders.

I, for one, hope this isn't true. Whether the fault of Topps, Paypal or myself, I did not get the first set from Topps. I would suspect Topps would make the full 200 17th binders. But I also suspect there were significantly less full sets purchased. I wouldn't think Topps will just eat these but will sell the remaining non-free binders at a high price.

Yes, that bothered me too. Why say "believed"?

and the Series 8 Flash Card says the puzzle is 'Kung Fu'. nice. I wonder if there are other typos

doubt they're playing.

I would suspect Topps would make the full 200 17th binders.

My bad... It was 150 sets, not 200. I guess it was some kind of Freudian brain slip. Still hoping there I'll be a way to pick up a 17th binder since I didn't get the first 4 from Topps.

Andrew

So its Wed and no sale. maybe next week? You would think with a 1K binder investment we would get a tad more insight into the sale date.

You would think but that doesn't always work out. Each binder release has been delayed. With the last binder release it could help Topps sell the remainder of the previous binders.

Dear Topps, Please silence the crickets by updating us on the when the next and last binders will be put on sale.
-
Called Topps Cust Service today and asked when the last group of binders would be put on sale. I was put on hold and then told they went on sale on Dec 23rd. I explained that was not the case and asked them to look into it and actually put them on sale. Stay tuned.

Sounds like some sort of "super secret sale!" :-X :-X :-X ;D

What a hassle ordering the binders at the Topps site, it had me running in circles, wouldn't let me log in, after a dozen attempts I logged in as a guest, typed in my name etc... & the order went thru.I better get credit for 2 sets as I stuck with ordering doubles till the end.

They're up for sale! I just ordered my set with free shipping. No indication on the website about the 17th series "lost" binder - hopefully they'll ship it to those of us who ordered all the sets as promised.
How'd you get free shipping? I had $11 for basic ground rate.

GOTCHA!!! ;D ;D
Hey Joe, This is "14" "13" is history and so is the word --------LOL.

I had contacted Topps Customer Support requesting confirmation that they have records of my 4 binder Release purchases. Here is the reply:
"You will receive binder 17 when it becomes available in late February."

So you're saying we will see them this summer ;D

Odd. I did not see that. I had 3 options: $11 Ground, $28 2nd Day, $44 Overnight. (Something like that)

It's going to take until February since they have to print the 30 cards and 9 piece puzzle that will go in binder 17. ;)

It was right underneath those three options, but like a paragraph and a half away. If you try to put in another
order you'll see the round checkbox. You can always cancel the test order.

What art can grace the cover of a 17th Binder? The others all refer to produced wackies.
-
How many 17th's will print? It should be the amount of orders for the1 - 16 binders or will it 150, free to the 1 - 16 & a price for everyone else also for us that bought more than 1 full set, do we get 1 binder or 1 for each set ?
My opinion is print enough for the 1 - 16 set purchasers, sound fair ?
-
I say print all 150. That would be the only one that I might actually be interested in, overpriced as they were. Again, it would depend on the price. Topps really dropped the ball on these IMO by not printing on the spine and the inside.

Not really, I did not get ithe first set from Topps. I won't rehash that experience but I tried. I did successfully get the rest from Topps. I realize I won't get the 17th binder for free but would hope Topps prints the 150 and sells those left after the full set purchasers get theirs'.

I would contact customer service and explain how you tried to get release one and had to resort to the secondary market to acquire it after whatever occurred. They may be sympathetic to your situation. I feel they should not make the 17th available for purchase separately. It was held out as the bonus for purchasing all 16 binders. To sell it on its own later would not send the right message relative to future promotions of this type. Given the "Spine Issue" we already have to deal with; those who spent the $1040 to acquire these from Topps should at least get something special and highly limited that rewards them for their outlay.

When did you know Topps to EVER care about something like this??? Just sayin'.

Can the artists involved please post JPGs of their new binder cover artwork? I think this is the same thread the art was posted in before. Thanx!!

Response to my query about a 17th Sticker set to go with the 17th binders:
"My apologies for the delayed response. As it turns out, there are no plans for a 17th series Wacky at time and I have not been able to obtain any information about any release in the near future. Please feel free to check in with me any time for updates and I'll be happy to share any information I may have."

Dude,
They better honor how many sets of FULL 1-16 Binders people bought - IF you bought 2 FULL sets - you get 2 FREE 17th series binders...for FREE - there should be none for sale....It would be real sh*tty if they don't do it the way they advertised it!!
and they should have either 17th Wacky Set or at least a special Card/sticker or COLOR SKETCHES!! something ....anything...

Nice way to start off the New Year.

No sketch. Just the Postcard and promo card.

Yep, it was in a separate, smaller envelope - between the puzzles. The Ugly Santa and AOD post card were by themselves in the same folder/package as the puzzles.

Maybe they'll do it like the postcards, where there's a special 17th (e.g. hand signed by all the artists) for those who bought the first 16 and then a more generic, unsigned version for everyone else. Even that would not be enough of a distinction to feel "fair" to me, however.

It’s really nice to see the artwork without the large WP logo and the big splashy “Original Stickers Collector Binder” thingy in the lower right corner, which together must take up 20% of the area of the cover.

-
Just got binders today. I received a Joe Simko OS3 sketch of HEADS AND BOLDERS (B&W) with my two advert cards. Like many others here, we were hit with 11 inches of snow followed by bitter cold 2 Sundays ago. It was just this past weekend that the County road crews got some of the more rural roads (like ours) cleared enough for deliveries to resume. I watched the Fed-Ex tracking information for this package last week as it showed "out for delivery", then later that day "returned to depot because or weather exception" over and over.
I noticed the series 13 binder is similar to the series 11 in that it has a red series number on it. Wish I knew what that was supposed to mean.

I've given up trying to make sense of it.
Why is 13 the only one with a starburst that is not yellow?
Why do 11 and 13 have a red and orange numbers respectively on their spines?
Why do Neil's (1, 7, 16) all have artwork showing through the starburst?
Why is 16 pink, when the wrappers were red??
-

I am confident the 17th Binder will hold the answers to all of the above questions. It will be the missing link to the binder saga.
The key that fully unlocks the true power of the Binder Legacy. Be careful when opening the 17th Binder Package as the
awesomeness of the Lost 17th Binder may be too much for some of us to bear.

I think Topps should include several sketch cards from the 2013 Halloween comic with each 17th binder due us - preferably one sketch from each of the comic stories. Or one sketch from each of the postcard series - why not ask for the moon? xD

I looked at the images from earlier in this thread and you make some interesting observations.
I'm especially puzzled by the second and forth points on your list.
I had an idea that possibly different people were involved in various aspects of the production of each wave of the release, and that created some inconsistency, but that still doesn't make any sense....it's wacky

Where did the pink come from? S16 has red wrappers...although the binder is beautiful even in pink...
-
Where did the pink come from? S16 has red wrappers...although the binder is beautiful even in pink...
Someone was drunk and had a pack of ANS 5 on their desk and accidentally went with that?
-
Where did the pink come from? S16 has red wrappers...although the binder is beautiful even in pink...
That has me confused as well. I'm wondering if the printing was done incorrectly, and they didn't hit the target color for the background so it turned out pink instead of red. I thought the same thing about series 10 (which is supposed to match the deep purple wrapper, but just turned out to be a weird blue color).
-
I'm especially puzzled by the second and forth points on your list.
I thought maybe they were shooting for the spines to look like the wrappers, where the large blank area is the color of the wrapper and the number is done in the color of the wacky logo for that wrapper. So, quite a few should have yellow for the number, which they do, but a bunch should also not be yellow - 3,4,8,11,13,14 should be red, and 16 should be white.
with the pink 16th, it's vaguely like the color of the color of the products on the wrapper?
I guess, like with the original 16, there are oddities and inconsistencies and that's all part of the charm

I kind of wondered the same thing. I was about 75% sure he was being funny.
This is why it’s so difficult to communicate with only text; we are missing all of the facial expressions and body language. If we could have seen DrDeal as he said this, we would have all laughed and been absolutely sure of his humorous intention.
One study showed that 93% of communication is nonverbal, and since here, all we have is text (without even voice inflection) sometimes I think of us as quadriplegics trying to play soccer.
That’s one reason it is so difficult discuss religion, politics, welfare reform, abortion, evolution, etc here. If we were all around a table playing poker, we certainly could have a civil discussion about Obama Care, but not here, with only text.

Looking forward to the 17th Binder arriving within the next month. Not much other Wacky excitement on the near horizon.

Does anyone have a JPG of the Series 16 cover art? I know images of 3 of the others in the latest batch were posted a fews ago.

I received my 13-16 WP binders this past Friday. Upon my initial inspection, I noticed that the 16th Series Binder puzzle had a duplicate card in it. The bottom-middle card was duplicated and the extra one is in the middle-right position.
My first reaction was to contact Topps' Customer Service, but then I decided to post here in the event that one of the forum members may have received a duplicate middle-right card (and be needing a bottom-middle card)
I remember someone else having a similar issue and was curious as to whether or not it was resolved via the forum members, or by contacting Topps.
Any help/info is greatly appreciated!
George
Just a quick update regarding the above issue... Topps came through for me! I came home Friday evening to find my replacement 16th Series Binder puzzle waiting for me!

In the meantime, trying to complete other sets and getting more sketches if I can afford them....

They said mid Feb on Binder 17 but I wouldn't hold my breath. It would be nice if an artist could comment on the art used for the 17th binder.
Maybe a compilation from all 16 series? Sort of a "Best Of OS" painting. Hmmmmm?

Someone who frequents this board has some insight as to what we can expect. Maybe they will enlighten us? :-X

It will be interesting to see exactly how this 17th binder is handled by Topps. Will they only make enough to fulfill orders for those who bought all 16 Binders? I would think that would be no more than 100. If they do that then the resale on one would be pretty robust. That would be ironic given the poor resale values on the binders thus far. Glad I have one coming. If it ends up being awesome and super limited you will have to pay a lot to get one. If its so-so and not limited then those who sat out the binder issues will feel they made the right choice. I really like having all my OS cards in their new homes. The spines are a bit ho-hum but they also have a clean non-busy feel to them. There is a pretty big contrast to the spines vs. the covers. Plain transform into a mad mashup of WP madness once you pull a binder off the shelf.

I'm sure it will be a great surprise. My only concern is that I did
order two full sets of binders, so I'm fully expecting two "surprises,"
whatever they may be?
-
... those who sat out the binder issues will feel they made the right choice.
I think this will be the case for most regardless of the 17th binders. The 17th would have to be mighty spectacular to cause anything close to a forehead slap for me.

Yeah - It would have to be 30 never before seen original titles painted by Norm himself to make me smack my head!
-
I haven't done the numbers but, for some reason I have it in my head that to get all the 16 binders costs over $1000.
If that is true, those that bought them all should get a lost norm exclusive set 8)
God I am out of work and the thought of $1000 for plastic ring binders is mind-boggling!
Rock on America! ;D ;D

What does it cost these days to acquire a full set of OS Wackys Series 1 - 16?
I bet the cost of the a set of binders is not far from that figure.

My guess would be between $2250 & $3250 depending on condition, & whether or not puzzles & variations (spic/span, bum, choke, grime heavy, scoot n/c) are included.

Yea, but if you love Wacky's like we do around here then go for it!
The binders do look amazing so for people who buy them I hope they enjoy them ;)
Didn't mean to rain on the thread so if my previous post was out of line, then please just ignore it. Sorry.

No worries, we've been complaining about the price since page 1 ;D
I personally thought these would be well received. I love the artwork and think it's great having them but it looks like just a few of agree.

Binder series number we're waiting for and page number of this topic... coincidence? I think not! :P

Did anyone else get their 17th binder yet? I hope I'm missing something or else I'll be really let down. I had the binder and 1 sketch card, that's it.

Got my binder and sketch card today. I wonder if they will do stickers to go with the new Binder? It will be interesting to see the sketch cards as they show up. Nice to get a tobacco card.

Did someone post a pic of the Series 17 binder, or did I miss it?

LOL Patrick! You crack me up! ;D I needed that.

no problem, I really didn't mind the images in your post. it was nice seeing them large and in charge
it was the multiple later 'quoting' of these images.
there needs to be an easy 'reply' feature that doesn't include images

Welds any notices from Topps sent out before you got your binders? Alex

Welds any notices from Topps sent out before you got your binders? Alex
From the dead silence leading up to Saturday, the answer is sadly "no"
At something called the Industry Summit last week, Topps addressed the apparently poor communications surrounding late, and extremely late, baseball redemptions.
Communication seems to be an across the board issue

Does anyone have a nice scan of the 17th series binder artwork painting that they can please post? Also...still looking for a scan of the 16th series binder artwork.

So knowing what we know now regarding the OS 17th Binders and Sketch cards; what are some thoughts about this "promotion"?
I went into it hoping the binders would be re-saleable so that I could buy two of each in order to be able to pick from two sketches.
I did that for release A and B and was able to sell one set of binders/ puzzles for about what I paid. I was pretty happy with the
sketches I kept for 1 - 8. For release C and D I only purchased one set as the resale potential fell apart and I would not have been able to get
half my outlay back. It would have ended up costing me around $400 for the four binders if I purchased two sets so I could pick the better sketch.
Consequently I have a few sketches in Binders 9 - 16 that I would prefer to upgrade; so I watch Ebay for puzzles being resold to try to do that but
all in all I am pretty happy with my sketch pulls. I got a Jail-o for OS1. The binder Art is very nice and its fun to peruse the binders from time to
time. The blank spine issue is puzzling but I can live with it. The rest of the puzzle cards are cool as they are a unique WP set so I am happy to
own them.
Now we have the OS 17th Binder and Sketch Cards to go with it. Knowing the binder is pretty much a tribute to Bhob is a point that makes its
quite special to me. We speculated long ago that a lost 17th Binder might have some cards produced to go along with it. Now that seems to be a
possibility in the future. The sketches are the first I have received from Topps in a high end Card Sleeve. To me that says Topps feels these cards
are quite special or they would not have invested in those sleeves for them. I was just able to place 65 Release D binders in my cart at the Topps
store ;so we know by that that no more than 85 of release D have been purchased. I would say a fair guess as to the number of people that
purchased all four releases is 75. That makes the Binder 17 and Sketches limited to 75. I think the reverse of the sketch card is very cool with
Graphics reminiscent of an OS Pack.
So knowing what I know now, I WOULD buy into this program again if all of this was known from the start. I wonder if some of those who sat
out this release for various reasons would have participated had they known what the 17th Binders/ Sketches would be like and the Bhob
connection? I sold quite a few items in my collection to raise the funds to buy these binders and I would do it again. I think Topps tried to
create something special to reward us for supporting this release which looks to be a labor of love instead of a profit motivated action.

Any help/info is greatly appreciated
George
Just a quick update... Topps came through for me regarding the duplicated 16th Series Binder puzzle piece! I received my replacement puzzle this past Friday! Thank you Brian, at Topps, for all of your help! :great:

Dusting off a very old thread here!
Anyone know where I can find a high-res gallery of the artwork for all of the OS 1-17 binder covers?
I never bought these back in the day, but the artwork was fantastic! These really need to be collected somewhere.
I found one piece, and it's the original artwork too!

I thought maybe there was a spreadsheet thread for these with nice images of the binders and puzzle cards.

I finally scored a set of these, including the puzzles and 17th sketch, woo!
What did people put in the 17th binder?
-
OPC's and UK's.
-
Some people put the chrome cards in there, especially the Lost 17th cards.

My 17th Binder has: Chrome Cutting Room Floor Wacky's, Halloween Bio and Sketch cards, Online Wackies, Philly Show Wackies, GPK Wackies.

Mitch this awesome congrats! I always thought that 17th series sketch card must be the rarest sketch Topps ever produced. Can’t say for sure but they’re certainly few and far between.

Topps did offer those large canvas prints that were framed back in the day for all of the covers.
They were really nice, but I think that they ran $80 each, so only a handful of each title sold.

They were 74.99, and Topps kept running a percentage off special for orders $75 and over. I bought a few that way by adding in a pack of penny sleeves.
