All that going to happen is these people will put them back on Ebay in the future and it will sour all of the new people coming into the hobby.  I am so glad I collect for my enjoyment not for profit.

Most people collect for enjoyment, even those pursuing high dollar items. Let's be honest, how many people are buying up ludlows or high grade die cuts planning to flip them? This MO might make some sense for sketches (short term), but with vintage items I don't think it happens much.

I got replies back from the 2 I sent message to.

Dear wackypackagesforum,

..... thankfully, I didn't pay anything. After the auction ended, in which I was high bidder, I looked at the sellers other items, and past items, and saw that they were Holy Grails of Wacky Packs. This roused my suspicions, so I re-re-read the auction, noticed the "perfect reproduction" and and then asked if they were repros. My first response from the seller was that he would hold me to my contract. I told him that I was an eBay memeber since 1999, so knew the rules, and welcomed this, as I would then question whether or not he violated Topps copyrights. He then voided the auction. I heard from another buyer who purchased a Good and Empty - same thing. Since the seller cancelled the auction, I left positive feedback, only becuase he did communicate and did close the auction. Looks like he still have 100% positive feedback. BUt yes - his description, while strictly correct was intentionally confusing.

I went to your forum - pretty interesting - I may join.

Cheers

Thanks for letting me know but I knew already. I knew when I saw I won the auction and I saw the price. I have a bad habit of throwing auctions into esnipe with a low bid just to track what they went for. I read the description but missed the repro part.....it was at the end of a long description. Anyway, I complained to the guys and asked to cancel the transaction and he did.

Can one or more of the artists here with solid Topps' contacts let them know about this guy? I keep letting eBay know via the reporting mechanism but somehow I don't think it is working...

The seller is clearly a con artist as he runs one day auctions knowing ebay won't react fast enough to end them.  His suggesting he would hold someone to the ebay contract furthers that his intent is to deceive and then play dirty unless he is pressured.  Not much we can do about it as I am sure Topps won't be bothered with this as Topps has been very selective about when they want to protect their copyright.  The most that can be done is to continue to contact winning bidders and under bidders as I am sure this con artist is contacting under bidders after his winners back out.

How is it even possible to contact the winning bidders to warn them?  I thought Ebay made this option impossible years ago...

Brad seems to be doing it, I am not really sure, I gave up on this practice years ago as I found policing this hobby to be unrewarding.

You can't send messages to people bidding because its tough to tell, other than the usual suspects. I looked at his feedback and messaged those people.

Also, I imagine sometimes hazardous conditions, low pay, and no 401K match

I had several email exchanges with this seller today to determine the authenticity of the Wacky Ad wrappers. It took 2 back and forths before he fessed they were repros.

Has this guy always been putting this blurb at the bottom of his descriptions?

Please make sure you understand this auction and if you don't all you have to do is ask.

Has anyone emailed him expressing the negative to the hobby affects of what he is doing?  I know he probably only cares about profit but sometimes a little pressure from multiple sources can be affective.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I always love when they start with something like "I am the original owner, blah, blah,..."

This guy cracks me up. He's had this 8th blue full box up for years with no takers. He keeps increasing the price. First it was
$1999, then $2300, then $2500. Now it's 49% off...of $5000! So it's $2550.

Arguably the price of $2,000 isn't that ridiculous. I just think it's funny to keep raising the asking price in the face of bidder indifference.

That's one wild seller – their pricing strategy is like a bucking bronco at the rodeo

They have a set of Brady Bunch cards with the price reduced from $29,999 to $14,700

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-TOPPS-BRADY-BUNCH-GUM-CARD-SET-PSA-7-58-HIP-POP-CULTURE-OFFER-OK-/330384982781?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cec7ac2fd

What does this part of the auction description mean, below? If I buy it, only one other person on Earth has a better graded set?

"THIS IS THE #2 HIGHEST 100% COMPLETE SET ON PLANET LISTED UNDER HERE'S THE STORY ON THE ALL TIME PSA SET REG."

But if you buy it at the BIN price you save $2450! Why not list it at $20,000 one week and then drop the price down to $5,000 the next? Then they can say to the potential buyer, "You're "saving" $15,000!"  What a joke. If the quoted price is in no way - or only very loosely - connected to the actual 'value' (which is very difficult to establish in the first place) of the commodity on offer then where is the savings?

If everyone sold like this, just think of all the money you could save by saving your savings! WOW !

You could be the 2nd person on earth to have one of the best sets of these. I guess that excludes other galaxy's.

The value of everything is down.  About 5 years ago I sold a full 8th Blue box for about $2500.  That said, I am tempted to offer him $1500 for it.  I think that would be a fairly decent value price for that full box.
Still looking for Series 17

I think that he has sold this one about 1/2 dozen times over the passed few months. No where in the description does it states that these are reproductions.

He uses the term "rendered" in the description (quoted below) but "rendered"  is a very broad and general term and does not specifically imply the cards are not original test items  like would be conveyed by "reproduction" or "reanactment" or "fake" or "forgery" or "slimeball". I mean, all cards are rendered in one way or another. At least this description  would trigger a bit of a red-flag for me but could still see how someone unfamiliar with the history of this particular item could be misled.

" This auction is for a RENDERED Set of 1981 Lost Wackys that were going to be made and released in the UK back in 1981,but for some reason it never happened and we collectors were left with a hole in our collection. The set is a rendering of what could have been. The cards in the picture are the exact cards you will receive. Item ships the day payment is made. Cards will be put into toploaders and mailed securely."
