"SCARCE 1974 TOPPS WACKY PACKAGE POSTERS UNOPENED 5 PACK LOT FROM UNOPENED CASE"

eBay auction: #370641560744

So if they are from an unopened case, how did they get the boxes and packs out?

OMG.
And a bunch of those originals are borderless or restuck. Not that it matters at $5K. What a maroon.

Imagine if they were worth that - how much we all have here!

That's Sooo far off base, I couldn't even call it wishful thinking.

Wow! What a steal!

Only interesting thing there is how weird the actual sticker outline looks when peeled. Checked and it really was die-cut like that. Bizarre.

It wasn't really the bid amounts that cracked me up, it was the description. "Off center (OC) but Near Mint condition". That's bizarre.

NM - well, other than the rounded corners and scuffed edges and possibly a crease or two...

It could also be fixed: peel it off and restick it centered. Now, it's NM and centered, LOL!! What a friggin' dufus seller.

Yup, one can find an old plastic Shedds bucket for like $10, get a rubber stamper made to say "wacky packages inside" and score a cool $300.

Although the starting bid has dropped by $1500. :]
Not true. That was the original starting bid, as ridiculous as it is. The BIN is now gone, which was $1500 above that (at $5000). I think George is Wright (lol)...smells shilly to me, too.

Considering that the "bidder" has no feedback rating, I would say this smells worse than fishy.

From the description... "12 in all they are scotch taped togeter from back ok so you no but you might be able to get it off a few duck taped to ok///thanks"

This appears to be either encoded invasion orders or a recipe for General Tso's chicken (with duck substitute).

Ha!

Or maybe it's the summary of a porn movie loosely based on the horror movie Centipede?

That is definitely lizard boy style text.  Could very well be him.  Just dissapointed there are no lizard pics this time.  Maybe the lizard is in the great desert in the sky!

I think Gary has blown a fuse. He doesnt always have the worst prices but he's lost it with this one.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OOP-ANS-7-Wacky-Packages-SKETCH-CARD-Gulp-Oil-Can-Monkey-Brent-Engstrom-/280970552087?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item416b266317

I've tried to figure out his pricing strategy but it seems to be all over the map. If it doesn't sell he'll probably drop it a bit and that doesn't sell he will go the bidding route. The thing is if they don't sell within 2 days of a BIN you have over priced it because there are about 3-4 sketch collectors that will suck them up pretty fast if the price is right. Just look at completed auctions.

So, now that a nearly identical graded pack just sold in auction format on ebay for $172, I wonder if ol' sellhelper might consider lowering his asking price on this one, which is 4 times the ebay sale:

I pulled this very Simko Witch a few weeks ago and I currently own it.  Is this person downloading sketch images from Ebay, printing them and then re-applying them to tan backs?  This is the type of stuff that has to stop.  I can't believe people are buying this stuff.

huh?...it says "reprints" without any further explanation, so we can only assume
that the seller is copying the sketches and manufacturing his/her own cards?

If that's the case, nothing surprises me how far people will go to make a buck.
Shameful if it's true!

Look at the items and prices of the closed Ebay postings that this seller has already sold.   Reprints of Good and Plenty, Bandache, Ludlows, Sketches etc.  Is it shame on the seller or shame on the buyer?

This specific trend is the reason that I have scans of all of the sketch cards that I recently drew. Not so much for the pencil sketches, but more for the b&w ink renderings. This way, if any of my cards make it to eBay, and are misrepresented, faked, colored in, etc., I can blow the whistle on the seller. This may sound like overkill, but it is extremely frustrating to see it becoming a common practice for some sellers to be making good money on swill and/or altered sketch cards.

These aren't even GOOD fakes, though.  Here's an interesting art forgery tale on Bhob Stewart's blog.  http://potrzebie.blogspot.com/2010/07/norman-rockwell-mystery-solved.html

The irony is Matt Stock bought them....HaHa
This really is sad though. You really need to read the full description. Funny that Matt got what was coming to him on this lot.

People are leaving positive feedback on this guys fake stuff. I sent messages to the guys that paid almost $300 for the Band-Ache and the one that paid $200 for the Good and Empty. I'm curious if they knew it was a fake and if they could tell when they got it. I'll post their reply if they do reply.

All that going to happen is these people will put them back on Ebay in the future and it will sour all of the new people coming into the hobby.  I am so glad I collect for my enjoyment not for profit.
