Maybe the high bidders are both inexperienced with the net and both thought this set was a lucky find.

Imagine a world where every auction includes a "going rate" quote.

I bid on a few of his sets,,just lookin' for deals,,the 15th went for over $300,,seems fishy but we'll see what Brad gets for his
i paid $140 w/puzzle for my 14th set,, average NM and only upgraded about 3 of them,.,,i thought it was a good deal at the time

I'm a bit worried about the "proctive" card holder. (Or is it "proctective"?) I'm not really sure what that means...

I'm with you... sounds too much like something a proctologist would have a vested interest in. I don't have any interest in any card I have to add to my collection "supositorally".

Dem cards need "proctive" card holders - otherwise, handling might "recdem".

Sorry, I shoulda quit before I hit bottom.

One of the KISS members is an artist now and he doesn't seem to like discussion KISS at all.  I think it is Paul Stanley, anyone know for sure?

You are correct, it is Paul Stanley.  I was in Chicago a few years past and Paul was at a local mall that had an art gallery that was showing his paintings. I was fortunate to be able to talk with Paul for a short time and he definitely steered away talking about KISS and I thought nothing more about it.

I read an article about his artwork ( I forget where) and he only likes to discuss his art when he is representing his art. If it were an interview about music, then he will talk KISS all day. I got the impressing that with painting, he initially was surprised that he had this talent in him and now is proud of what he has accomplished. I imagine that he has spent 35+ years talking KISS and now wants to talk painting. Painting is relatively new to him and exciting. Questions about whether Peter and Ace will rejoin the band are tired and old and are probably thrown at him daily. Gene is THE perfect self-promoter, so Paul probably lets Gene be the spokes person nowdays.

Wow!!! One of my favorite topics on "Are These People Nuts"  thread.  Usually, in the last few interviews when the whole band are together, Paul seems to dominate the interviews concerning KISS.  He is a multi-talented individual, and  in my opinion, a very underrated vocalist.  He is the heart and soul of KISS in my opinion.  I wasnt overly thrilled with "Sonic Boom"  but when I heard Ace's new solo album "Anomaly", all I could think is  "this is what is missing from KISS".  Even though I am not looking for another reunion.

This doesn’t rise to the level of outrage as some of the auctions in this thread, but I think it’s funny to see someone selling a common title with writing on the front for $4.99

http://www.checkoutmycards.com/Cards/Non-Sports/1974/Wacky_Packages_Series_8/4/Burpsi-Cola

I’ve got a fair number of stickers with names on the back of them (OS swill that I scored from Greg and Ernie about 8 years ago when I first got back into the hobby). I find some of writing on the backs (kids writing) to be kind of neat and I had a kooky idea recently to make a framed collection of the writing on the back of WP stickers. Maybe a set of 4 X 4 sticker backs (I’d say tanbacks set against a white or black background) might look pretty cool. Or not. Just another nutty idea of mine . . .

A related idea is to have a contest to see who has the sticker with the craziest / coolest writing or drawing on the reverse. There might be some neat stuff out there!

OK, I've now completed my creative thinking quota for the month of September.      :icon_jokercolor:

I won a set of series 16's awhile back. I was very suspicious of the auction but won it for $900, which was a very good deal at the time. The guy messages me and was totally blown away since they couldn't sell them for $.50 at their garage sale. He said his wife told him to throw them but he decided to put them on eBay.
About 5 of the cards were really nice while about 5 of them were used for adding up a garage sale buy totaling about $1.75. Someone used the backs as scratch paper. I sold the set for $600 and took a very hard $300 hit and a new ebay life lesson. Some people get really lucky with these quirky auctions but I have been burned a few time on various lots and such.

I’m sorry if this has been already talked about, but how can someone tell if there is an autographed foil / auto error / Sketch in an unopened pack?

There has been quite a bit of discussion about this seller in the ANS7 Spoilers thread.  If you look at the seller's other auctions you will see that he is selling these "hot packs" for other types of card series (baseball, football, etc).  The only confirmation we have that this is legit is that Leslie bought a couple of packs from this person that were guaranteed to have a flash foil in them and she said that both packs did indeed have Silvers in them.  Those packs only sold for a few bucks each but I don't think anyone has taken the plunge to risk $100 on one of these possible autograph/sketch packs.
Giving "The Hobby" the finger since 1999!

This was 1 of many 1st, 2nd & 3rd series psa9s that sold last night in the $300 to $400 range. It does seem a bit excessive to me, but since they were auctions, at least 1 other person was just under the high bidder in all cases...

I must say that I've been in the process of upgrading my 1st to 16th run over the past 6 months, and most people's nm is far from it IMO. I have gone through thousands of stickers and the majority aren't in great shape. When you go the psa route, you do save quite a bit of time and money eliminating "the chase." I usually take a hybrid approach of chasing upgrades, but when I can get a good deal on a psa htf sticker, I'm not against that.

ya i was shocked at how much some of your 1st cards went for,a few i was watchin' went for over $300 each
it seems some people will pay these amounts just to get that high grade from PSA when they would not likely yield more then about $10 each otherwise
My 1st set is very bright, clean, sharp, with nice over whiteness and well centered, and i dout i have over $300 into the whole set even with the big 4,,,took me about a year of hunting deals, but i'm proud of it for the money.
