And a brand new one for your enjoyment.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/364230834393?hash=item54cdd978d9:g:NcgAAOSwT-9kRgdT

And it's been discounted down from $95.99!

This never ceases to amaze me.  This particular seller has been on eBay for almost 22 years, sold 36K items, and has 13,200 items currently listed.  Can't s/he do a little research to see what's a reasonable price for this?  It's no wonder those self-help-get-rich-quick charlatans on TV keep making those infomercials.  Maybe someone will actually buy this at a 28.8% discount.

I must be missing something... what about this is fake?

2023 base sets didn't come packaged in a plastic box like this.  It looks like they used one that Topps sent with something else and just stuck the Topps seal around it to make it look like it was a sealed box.

I didn’t even pay attention to that… I just assumed they repackaged in the box, but never considered they might be trying to make people think it came that way.

That's why I called it shit-fakery, it gives the impression. Not a good look.

Agree, although with the crappy colation of “first wave” $100 isnt horrible for a set. The re-packaging seems dishonest, especially putting the Topps tape on it to make it look like a sealed box…

Look around, you should be able to find one in the $60 price range, which is only a little over $1 per sticker.

Most complete sets i have seen on E-Bay are more in the $80-90 range. Even at that price, i might just go the aftermarket route. It sounds like some people spent serious money chasing sets and chaser cards….

I have been asking $70 shipped, or $80 with both boxes, shipped priority.

New listing…Im not sure if the seller is nuts or the market is nuts….Complete set of 16th Series plus puzzle listed at $4,000. ($3,999.99) Says higher grade. that sounds about $1,500 too high IMHO…

It has best offer option. Seller might well accept $2500-3000. A little high maybe, I wouldn’t call it nuts.

But it's only "minor edgewear"!  You mean you can see other flaws?   >(

I believe that the "minor edgewear" was a typo on behalf of the person who listed this item. It was supposed to read "miner edgewear", as this sticker has obviously been used to hack coal from a mine. Regarding any other flaws, I think it's safe to assume that the seller pulled a Sgt. Schultz, here... "I see nothing.... NOTHING!!"

This isn't the only gem this asshole has listed

https://www.ebay.com/itm/394617351230

It's also listed as a Never Peeled Sticker!!! (with three exclamation points for emphasis).  I wonder what explanation is given for why the sticker doesn't fit the border behind it.  I'm surprised it isn't listed as a "Rare Error!!!" for this reason.

I Dont think this is nuts. Its really cool. I just dont have a spare $10,000…

My statue!!  I was told it had two "brothers" but this is the first I have seen of them.  I agree, it is very cool.  Very fragile, too.  And an impossible dust magnet that needs to be behind glass!

Well if their MSRP was going to be $9,995….i can see why they halted production.

I think these were prototypes for vinyls Topps never made.

I wonder what their production costs would have been. I bet people on here would have paid $60-100 for the statues…

No, they weren't supposed to retail for $9,995.  Mark Alfrey did the castings as prototypes for Topps, but the deal never worked out.  Here are some threads about it:

This one's a sports card, but the seller claims this is exempt (strange choice of words) from major defects.  I suppose the stains, dinged corners, and jagged top edge are considered minor defects.  BTW it books for $1.50 in EX-NM and $4 in MT.

That one is nice.  I'm 7 cards away from completing my 1972 set - without series 6.  I've had a lot of mine since I was 8 years old, so most of them are EX.  I'm not quite as discriminating.

That’s great! I am all over the 1972,1973 and 1974 sets. I will probably never complete them, but I love trying to maintain a consistent level of quality. Unfortunately, graded cards have very much dried up in the last few years, so progress has slowed considerably.

Which 7 do you still need?

Which 7 do you still need?

I have a Billy Williams in the mail (not the one above), so here are the other six:
441 Thurman Munson - New York Yankees
534 Jim Hickman - Chicago Cubs (Yellow)
559 Pete Rose - Cincinnati Reds
568 Juan Marichal - San Francisco Giants IA
625 Rookie of the Year Award
626 Babe Ruth Award

I'm also considering adding the Traded Cards in the 6th series, of which I have all but three:
751 Steve Carlton - Philadelphia Phillies TR
753 Denny McLain - Oakland Athletics TR
754 Frank Robinson - Los Angeles Dodgers TR

I've seen all of them on eBay, but they're either creased or priced over the book value, and I hate paying too much for something more than I love having the entire set.  For me, the thrill is much more in the hunt and obtaining the bargain than being a completist.

I won’t bore you with a detailed exposition unless you want me to, but there is no yellow “variation” of Jim Hickman in the same sense as the four other Cubs color variations. It is a printing error that is shared with many of the other cards in the same sheet column. I can give you chapter and verse on this if you need convincing 😁
