I'm really on the border - less the funds to bid on this auction.

Seems legit. It really is “Hard to Find” THAT many of those types of cards all in one auction.
Can’t say I’ve ever actually looked for them though 😁

These way overpriced type of auctions have existed since the advent of Ebay.  My question is, why don't these people  do 1 minute of research right here on Ebay to see what their items go for? If his sets were really in nice shape (doubt it) and he sold them separately with nice up close pics, he may get $150 for the pair.  $10,000?  He must think he is sitting on a gold mine.

Note to self:  any unslabbed wackys listed as MINT in brand new condition......  RUN!

it never stops....  :(

I finally get to contribute to this thread!  Saw this today & had a good out-loud laugh...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-Topps-Wacky-Packages-21-Jolly-Mean-Giant-CUT-OUT/173320426522?hash=item285ab3d41a:g:6KMAAOSw401aQGuC

I'm thinking it's pretty rare considering it would have to be first documented as a #21, and then punched afterwards... which would be crazy.

It's nice to see that someone thinks a bunch of Wacky Packages stuck on a worthless old 20 cent Mead folder makes it worth $27.

I can only think of two reasons why listings like this happen:

1) the seller is offering their own recently discovered childhood relic, and they’re so amazed at seeing the Wackys again, they figure the prospective buyer will be similarly blown away by this ‘rare find’.

2) the seller thinks they’ve found the only surviving Wackys in existence, and because you can see and read them, they’re in collectible condition and highly desirable.

Two seconds of common sense and/or internet research would shoot down both of these opinions, but it just doesn’t happen.  Some sellers can’t be bothered doing any homework whatsoever.

Not sure if this is exactly the right thread, but just saw these on Etsy & wondered what kind of havoc they're going to cause when they turn up at a Garage Sale and someone who's never owned original art thinks they've stumbled on a gold mine...

Not to mention if Topps will send them a C&D for reproducing their artwork and selling for profit.

This seller has been on eBay since Jul 18, 1997, so you would think they would know better by now.

Two Ha-Ha's and a marked up checklist.  Grab that bargain.
Not to mention that two of the stickers are 6th series.  Make an offer of 50 cents (which is probably being generous) and see what they say!

I'm surprised he didn't tout that marked up checklist as "one of a kind", since no other checklist is marked up in exactly the same way.

That reminds me of the guy that was selling a Jerkins sticker with a torn border as a one of a kind misprint for $100.  I actually reached out and tried to explain to him what he has was not a printing error, but rather, just a worthless common sticker with a torn border.  He was not convinced.  So, I took a jerkins sticker and ripped the border exactly like his was and send him a picture of me holding it in my hand so he knew I didn't just use his pic.  not surprisingly, he never got back to me.....
Still looking for Series 17

Um, what now?????

You have to pay extra because the stickers and checklist are "distressed."  So four stickers at $1 each, a checklist in marked condition at $1 plus $135 for "distressing."  I've heard that can be quite expensive to do it correctly.

I think you need a CPD -- Certified Public Distresser.

That also requires a witness to ensure that the distressing was actually done too!

The sad thing is that some dumbass kid from the 70s had a rocking collection of Wackys but decided it was necessary to “personalize” them by peeling off the borders.

I never knew then that people did that. I pulled them off once or twice after peeling the stickers, but I wouldn't have seen the point of removing the borders. Unless this was someone who bought these in bargain bins for 25 cents each and hopes to quintuple his investment.

This listing is for a 1974 Topps Wacky Packages Jay Lynch Original Art / Sketch PUPSI COLA Lynch Signed.

So these auctions are for PHOTOCOPIES of a sketch and NOT the sketch as suggested in the auction heading.  the seller seems to think merely stating that Jay photo copied his sketches later in the description of the auction would indicate to the seller that you are only getting a photo copy.  I highlighted to the seller that the way he has worded this is misleading but he disagrees so I wanted to warn any potential bidders.

From reading the letter that the seller received from Jay with the art, even the “original”, to the extent that Jay could have provided it post-OS era, is in itself a photocopy.  So the only question becomes how many generations of xeroxing before one reaches the print that is displayed.  Not hard to tell from the image itself that it’s probably been xeroxed two or three times.

The more intriguing question for me is how this collector got such a trove of goodies from Jay.  Did he have to pay for them, or did Jay send just for the asking assuming they’re only copies of copies anyway?  Probably the handwritten letter is the most valuable part of this whole exchange.

It was only thru reading the letter that I really understood the auction was for nothing more than a xerox.  Is the letter included in the auction?  Is the letter a xerox too?  Crazy how little interest this seller has in being specific.

Agreed, it’s all too common for there to be guesswork involved.  I was looking at a desk calendar listed on eBay, and in one place the description said ‘calendar envelope’, while elsewhere it said ‘new calendar in envelope’.  Probably the latter, but can’t assume.  People will list a magazine ‘cover only’ and actually believe it’s worth something.  I find myself asking questions of sellers way more often than I did years back.

If all of these sheets are really Jay’s first generation photocopies, as indicated by the letter, and all hand signed by him, then these are a fantastic treasure trove of the clearest versions of Jay’s work.
Why the seller wouldn’t promote these for what they are, if so, is bewildering.

I agree.  I contacted Jay back in the mid 90's and obtained a bunch of roughs from him for free...  wackys as well as Odd Rods and Garbage Pail Kids roughs....   unfortunately I sold them on Ebay.....  I wish I had then now...  I still have the 2 original art pieces he did for me in 2001.  I think I was one of the first collectors to ask him to do artwork for me.  A few years later, he was too busy to take individual requests for paintings....   8)

Not really on topic, but I just got this message from eBay when I deleted something from my watched items list.  WTFO?

Now I'm wishing I had clicked on the hyperlink to see exactly what I listed.  I wonder who the message was for, and if they're wondering how they deleted something from their watched items list while they were listing this.  An eBay search for the title produced 0 results.  Remove the apostrophe from cow's and you get some really interested results matching fewer words.
