Wondering about Wonderbreads

(1/4) > >>

JailOJohn:
Not to open a can of worms (or loaf of bread), but I recently bought a stack of wackys….I am trying to figure out which ones are Wonderbreads. I have seen very little on the forum, and also cross referenced Gregs site… I have the Gallery book, but there are no photos of Wonderbreads, just descriptions. i have been told that “Topps Chewing Gum Inc” written out COULD identify a Wonder, but not for sure. I was told two asterisks in the copyright is ALWAYS an original title. I was told a lot of grease on the back means its a Wonderbread. I have gone through the pile twice, and keep coming up with different titles that i think are Wonders. Are there any other partial or absolute ways to distinguish Wonderbreads? I love all wackys, but want to separate the Wonders out in my collection….

MoldRush:
Greg’s forum has the most detailed breakdown I’ve seen on the subject.  But the bad news is, not every WB title is easily distinguishable from its OS counterpart.  But definitely start there, and you will have at least a partial answer.

Greg’s site has loaves of pictures of all the Wonder cards along with the descriptions.
As well as side by side images against the original cards.

Suggest looking at his site again for the answers to your questions.

MoldRush:
Taking another look at Greg’s summary information, looks like only Series 1 is easily distinguishable, by copyright.  I thought Series 2 had distinct differences in die-cut shapes but from the few side-by-side images I checked I guess that’s not necessarily the case.  If you bought them on eBay I would ask the seller what they know about them.  Have you made any progress on identifying at least the Series 1 titles?

RawGoo:
Well, certainly Lavirus we know must be a Wonderbread if it has the angled cut.  I would have to look up the others, and Greg's site is the place I would go for that.
