Website hosting fees
« on: September 04, 2024, 01:44:42 PM »
Hey everyone,
I know I haven’t been on much and recently got let go from my job. Every September the hosting fees are due. It’s $225. Pat actually paid it all last year. I’m reaching out for donations. I know times are tough but $5 or $10 will help. You can please PayPal me at bradkaufman@mac.com.

Thanks everyone!

Thank everyone for your donations. I’ve never asked for any money over the last 12 years. I am in now way trying to make a profit over this. We are really close to the goal. If I get more donations than the $225 I will refund the extra.

Thanks everyone.

Hi Brad,
I don’t talk too much here on this site but I certainly enjoy the information and the commentary. Please accept my $225 donation sent and use all of it to pay the bill. It is the least that I can do for all the enjoyment I have received from this well run site.

Keep up the great work!

Mike

Mike, I am overwhelmed. Wow. Thanks everyone. You guys are incredible. I know we are all going through tough times. I’m just glad this forum give you enjoyment. That’s what it’s for. I feel blessed. My intention was to never charge for this site and no advertising. It was always away for me to give back to our community/hobby. Things happen in life that we can’t control. You guys are amazing! I actually have tears in my eyes. I know we have all helped a lot of people. I really didn’t expect this.

Mike since you paid the whole fee would you like me to refund every donation? If not I’m going to send Pat her payment last year. (Rawgoo) what an amazing woman.

I just sent Pat money for last years hosting fees. She don’t have to do it last year but she did regardless. She is a great person and has been with this community for a long time. That is why I asked her to be co-admin.

I know I haven’t been around a lot. Things have changed in my life over the last 8 years. I won’t go into it but I wasn’t fired from my job. I was let go because the software I was selling to banks hit its end of life. It was a good 26 year run.

I still have my collection and my wife is asking what she should do with it if I die. Good question. I don’t have a good answer. Not sure who she should reach out too. I’m going to be 59 in a couple weeks. Maybe I should sell the big stuff now. I know you guys all have great collections so I may be preaching to the choir. If anyone is interested in anything just ask. I won’t sell individual cards. Only sets. I have been collecting again almost 20 years ago and compiled some good stuff.

Any way to take what's left over and tuck it away for next year? Let it ride!

First off, Brad, thanks for the kind words!  It was my pleasure to host everybody last year.  I honestly can't imagine the world without this forum!!

There's actually a thread here about what to do with our collections when we're gone.  Guess a lot of us are feeling old lately.  I know in the past two years I have retired, had a stroke, and lost my mom; the latter made me feel so old I decided to move into my mom's house because it has no stairs for me to deal with.  Renovating, and disposing of stuff, has been such an ordeal that I feel like I have aged 3 years in the last 6 months.  I plan to display many of my treasures, including my wacky boxes, and I will direct my sister to this website to offer everything after I pass.

I hope you will once again join in the conversations here!

Thanks everyone. I will use any extra for next year. I rarely use my PayPal account anymore so it will just be saved for next year.

I don’t know you and we have never met. I know you are going through hard times and that just sucks. I’m thinking we are all.
Like I said I was so grateful for the outpouring of generosity that I had to give Pat her money back. This forum was never to make any money. Never reallythought about because I had a good job.

You guys are amazing.

My donation is that I have been paying to keep Lostwackys up for several years(no I do not need any donations).  Some of his content was lost because his wife let his payments lapse when he had the stroke and his provider deleted some content as it was too old. I wish I knew about his stroke sooner to salvage more of his content.  She has not been able to provide anything via his computer so I had to repoint a lot of links as best I could.  His son temporarily stopped by here and I thought he would be able to dig up his computers and content but I never heard back.  Seems Rusty was in the process of moving content so his stuff was half on one provider and half on another.

What a wonderful gesture on your part Ernie! I'm happy to see that at least some of the lostwacky site was recovered. I actually helped Rusty with some of the image files so when I get a chance, I'll see if I saved any of the missing data.

Thanks, Ernie, for keeping Rusty's site going. I hope his family's doing OK.

I really have no idea, but I figure the worst that could happen is that we would be down longer.  I hope  :o
