1980 Wacky Cans/Can Labels
« on: August 25, 2024, 08:23:16 PM »
I don't know if anyone has read Gary Gerani's two books (with more on the way) about his work at Topps and other trading card companies, but I've thoroughly enjoyed his volumes on the 70's and 80's.  While the 80's volume is thin on Wackys (both due to the lack of quantity and quality of Wackys in the 80's), I thought his description of the Wacky Cans (or are they refered to as "Can Labels" amongst us collectors?) was worth sharing.  Here's a pic of the book cover and of the pages with a single pic and his description:

Not sure if this has been discussed before, but IMO the ‘adapting’ of several Can Label titles into standard stickers was one of the best things about the ANS-era Flashbacks, far better than the much-ballyhooed Lost Wackys.  Too bad they weren’t all included.

I agree. There were some cool titles in there. And if I'd waited, I could have gotten a Flashback Ratz for a lot cheaper than a punched original.

Six of them were done in Flashback 2, while the other six haven't been done yet. Oh well, maybe someday...

Would love to see the other six cans, as well as the three poster titles they haven't given us in regular sticker format (via FB1, FB2, or bonus)
Milk-Foam, Ivery Snow, and Toadal
Send me your borderless wackys!

Oh yes, definitely Toadal. That one should've been officially made into a sticker by Topps long ago.

And I didn't know that they'd made every Wacky Package Poster from the 1970s into a sticker except for three.

He's correct, those are the only 3 posters not to have been turned into a regular sticker. See the Lost Wacky checklist thread, I detailed the sources there.

You mean like this? lol

[Of course, this is not official Topps. I think I got it from Duane years ago]

You're right, and I also don't consider the X-Packs series version of Toadal to be official, either (remember that one?).
