Topps listed the odds of getting a variant as 1 in every 6 boxes. Well, I bought more than 6 boxes and didn't get a one. I looked on ebay, and someone is selling the variants for $79 each. Sorry, the variants are not worth that; it's kinda like spending it on a different colored border--no real addition to the joke. Maybe if the variants were more numerous and included like a regular hit and made easier to collect, I might have tried for the set of 5. But high-priced like that and almost impossible to get, for so little addition of appreciation? Naw, I'll pass.
BUT as I said in the feedback thread, overall, I loved this set and (other than the variant issue) Topps mostly got the distribution of the hits, base puzzles, and base coupons correct. Whoever went to bat at Topps for the Forum, did a great job convincing the higher-ups and made them listen to what we wanted. The joke writers and artists did a spectacular job! The parodies were funny, and I appreciated the detailed artwork on all the cards. As I stated before, I'm VERY happy that the coupon backs were made part of the base set like they were in one of the very early ANS because, unlike colored borders, they actually add to the humor of the Wacky Package. The other hits were fun, too, and not that difficult to "collect 'em all." So, I can't wait to spend some time to sit back and really read and enjoy this new set.
