Looking at the 2024 50 title checklist. My guesses for the 2024 Wacky Pack entries of what they spoof:
Ache a Lot Coffee - Eight 'O Clock Coffee
Singles - Pringles
Stickey's - Stuckey's Pecan Rolls (Remember the Stuckey's Truck Stops/Travel Centers on the highway in the good old travel days?)
Muddy Babies - Muppet Babies (Is that owned by Disney? Maybe Disney dropped the C&D finally and can have Topps spoof Disney related products again Wacky Packages style in the near future!)
Nix - Trix Cereal or Kix Cereal

But I don't know what Sloppecito, Borin' Waters, Jokey, Noosance Gelato, Hot Snail The Ring Ding, and Snails will spoof

Well Daryll can’t speak for other artists but you missed on mine.  As I posted earlier no spoilers from me so you’ll have to wait until your packs arrive to find out the correct products!   :P

Wow!!

Just realized the old school set where Jay drew 2000 sketches is the one exception. But I did have a hand in the production.

I think it was actually 5,000 sketches.  didn't he make a video clip about that?

Just checked my notes and the original specs called for 3000 sketches. However, we reduced that number and started printing  some cards with character templates but I dont know how many  of these were actually finished.

Well if you haven’t yet, you should consider buying a box.  You’ll certainly be able to trade for the Mud Magazine card and also help keep Wackys going!

In looking over the set that Topps put together I really feel they’ve listened to all the forum concerns and assembled a really wonderful package at a great value.  I’ve said in the past my favorite way to buy ANS Wackys was the collectors boxes and this is one better.  For only $79 (the cost of a collector’s box for ANS 10 in 2013) you get 8 packs to crack and 8 guaranteed chase cards including a sketch, an Attacky Pack and one or two comics.  Also they did away with the silvers of ill repute, made coupons part of the base set and added great subsets.  All things collectors on the forum asked for.  I know the base set will rock (OK, OK i did a few but honestly I’m responding to the other art we’ve seen) and these are some of the best Wackys subsets in years.  So congrats to Topps on getting this right and I really hope all forum members will buy in and support it to the extent that they can!

Joe, based on the advertising alone, I agree. I was surprised, in a positive way, at the price point. From what we have seen so far, it looks like a very cool set. I especially like that the coupons are part of the base set, as you noted, and not as many chase items. Topps lost me as a Wacky completist collector when it started to cost more than $300 to put a full set together. I know others' breaking point was less than that.

Scot, thanks, good point.  As I’m not a completist collector I have no idea what past sets costs to get ‘em all.  Is $300+ high compared to what it was in retail days?  I seem to recall always spending more than that when a new set came out.

Topps lost me as a completist when they started with the different border colors, borders, and backs.  Ludlow and different backs were relevant when they were a result of running out of sticker backing as in the early Original Series days, but different backs just for the sake of having different backs seems like just a money grab to me.  In my opinion, the puzzle backs are overrated too; I'd much rather just have the coupon backs - they're the only option that adds anything not found already in the set.

Is $300+ high compared to what it was in retail days?

I never spent anywhere near $300 in the retail days - maybe $100 at best  Packs were in the $1-2 range, and full blaster boxes were $9.95.  I'm not really into the "hits," so I'd much rather spend $300 on the OS 1st and 2nd series ludlows or 3rd series white backs that I don't have.

Dennis, I guess that’s where I vary from most collectors.  I held onto my original series cards I bought in ‘73 -‘75 and although it’s incomplete and many are written on, dog eared and borderless that’s my original series collection and it’s kinda sacred to me.  Never felt the need to augment it.  So I’m a new Wacky collector and want to do all I can to see that Topps keeps making ‘em!  But I get where you’re coming from.

Joe - that's an interesting comment about being a "collector", something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I, too, have my original 1-16 and haven't upgraded anything in 30 years but recently decided I wanted to clean up the puzzles. For new series, I gave up trying to get every variation long ago and am happy with just one example of border/back/type variations within the series though I'm always going to go for something that has unique or different art. But I have no original series Ludlows and never bothered to pick up a Scoot-no-copyright, and sometimes feel that makes me a "lesser" collector than some folks who have a full 1st series red Ludlows, or complete pack collections, or whatever. Ultimately I decided I'm the only one who has to be happy with what I've got, and I do get a lot of joy from our hobby.

Anyway, bring on ANS 2024!

Joe,

Great points.
As with you, this release reminds me of the early Collector boxes, which I thought were terrific.
The packs were geared to provide more chase cards per box and a lower number base cards.
Coupons as part of the regular set is fantastic! Makes them easy to collect for everybody.
And two foils per box is huge for me. Last year my boxes were basically 50/50 having either one foil or two (and one box had zero). Very frustrating.

I know what you all mean. When I picked up collecting Wackys again with ANS2 (I missed ANS1 and didn't get that series until later (and long before I even found out about this place)), from the very beginning I decided to stick with the base stickers, bonus stickers (which, as we all know, lasted from ANS1 to 2014 S1), foil stickers (which, again as we all know, lasted from ANS3 to ANS7) and subsets (which, once again as we all know, lasted from ANS6 to 2014 S1 (2015 S1's subsets were merged into its base stickers but still kept their formats)), nothing more. And everything had to be white backgrounds with black borders only (except for the two Flashback series and the one Chrome series, but all three of them were different right from the start); no other border colors, other background colors, etc. The only major back variations I decided on getting, again from the very beginning, were checklists, puzzle pieces (whether I had the entire puzzle or not) and Wacky Coupons.

These are the Wacky series I've decided to collect and keep (seven of which I bought by myself in retail stores and nine of which I bought with the help of all of you gals and gals here and from eBay):

*the 1985 Series,
*the 1991 Series (with both versions of both sticker #26 and the checklist)
*ANS1,
*ANS2,
*ANS3,
*ANS4,
*ANS5,
*ANS6,
*Wacky Pack Flashback,
*Wacky Pack Flashback 2,
*ANS7,
*ANS8,
*ANS9,
*ANS10,
*ANS11,
*Wacky Packages Chrome.

I've already mentioned before why I'm not going beyond this point, so I won't repeat it here. And this is just the mainstream 16 series that were sold from retail stores and released between 2004 and 2014; again, I've already mentioned before the other Wackys that were released outside of packs, the Wacky Halloween Postcards and the non-Topps fan series that were advertised in here that I've decided to concentrate on finishing from this point on, so I won't repeat them here as well.

I agree whole-heartedly!  I've enjoyed the coupons ever since I saw them in retail packs ages ago.  When the monthly series came out, there were only 20 coupons to collect, and you got 4 coupons for every set you bought.  Then last year came around with 50 cards with only 1 coupon in each pack, and one would have to spend almost $1000 to "collect 'em all."  Having them as an alternate base set this time is a dream come true for me!  Also, I agree that the chasers all sound interesting, and I'll be collecting those as well.  In short, I'm interested in collecting the cards that offer new humor and new art.  As I've stated before, I've never been interested in the same card with different-colored borders (yes, those "silver borders of ill repute") or backs with a red logo printed on it.  I'm really getting excited about this promising set!

By the way, in the retail days, I would buy two gravity feed boxes from Target (I had to go to two different stores to do so) on the day of release when the packs hadn't had a chance to be gone through or bought.  I always either got the entire set or close to it (and bought the few I might have needed from ebay--this was before I knew about the trading section on the Forum).  Then, I also had to buy the bonus cards, either in boxes or bubbles, depending on the year.  So, to get the entire set, I probably spent around $300-$400.

If Topps guaranteed one base set per box, a lot more of these would sell...even at the $79 asking price.
Last time I bought a box and didn't get a complete base set, so I needed to trade my chase cards for the few base cards I needed, which IMO isn't a fair trade.
I mean....how else am I going to get those few base cards I'm missing without a trade? By the time I got my box and opened them up, all the trades on the trading thread are already established and nobody needs my extra base cards to trade for the base cards I needed.

I guess I'm a "nostalgic" or "old school" collector then.  The ones I collected as a kid mean a lot more to me than any of the newer ones, so I am trying and be a completist with them - at least what I can afford.

I do typically buy a box or two of the newer sets, keep them unopened, and then buy a base set and some of the subsets from other forum members.  So I am supporting the artists and keeping Topps making them, just not in the quantities that most of the other forum members purchase.  The newer stuff just doesn't have the same appeal to me that my childhood collection does.

I have always done my best to support the newer Wackys and the artists who work on them.  Unfortunately, this will be the first set I skip, due to my mom's passing and my relocating back to her house in a few months.  I just can't end up with a ton of extras anymore!!  I am literally throwing out Wackys, which feels like sacrilege.

I'm with you on the "old school" collector mentality.

I did however sincerely enjoy the new series, as they were so novel and nostalgic (at the time), up until around series 10 and 11, where it was less a nostalgic joy and more of a modern burden (tons of variations, having to keep track of what was available in packs and blisters and boxes and special boxes and even more special boxes and what was Target and what was Walmart and what was what was what was what).   And the gags got more and more potty humor and low brow....completely unlike the OS Wackys.
Send me your borderless wackys!

I guess when I complain about the new stuff, it's because I'd like to be a completist, but I think so many of the decisions made by Topps are just wasteful - like the previous releases having a full base set in every box, so if I buy 10, I get 9 base sets I don't need.  I'm not an eBay seller, so I have no way of getting rid of them.  I think the puzzle back and any other back variations add no value to the set - just give me the coupons; I really enjoy those.  The newer set seems to have made them more available by making them part of the base, but still the chances of getting a complete set without trading requires buying multiple boxes at $80 each; that starts to add up very quickly and once again gives me tons of stuff - like a checklist in every pack that I don't need.  Patrick mentioned the different types of boxes before that had different "hits" in them.  I realize I'm probably in the minority here, but that would be great for me because I'll never spend enough to get all of them, so they are just wasted on me.

Dennis, no I totally get it and do appreciate you snagging that box or two to help keep Wackys going.  I feel as I’m getting older there are fewer and fewer things in the world that excite me and I much perfer a world where new Wackys are made than otherwise.  Now in terms of dupes that has been part of collecting from the beginning.  I certainly recall accumulating tons of Maddie Boys in my quest to complete series 1 in ‘73!  Sure it’s cleaner to just buy a set but I do love sitting with the kids (now 26 and 19 but they still come down for Wackys) crack’n packs and putting together a new set for the first time.

I know what you mean - I've liked the Wacky Coupons ever since they made them in ANS3. Once they got started, there was no turning back. And they really got started way back in the 1991 Series. The lost 1992 Series' coupons were then all published in, and unevenly divided between, ANS1 and Wacky Pack Flashback 2. Those two series, however, were original parodies with very few of them based on actual products, while the coupons of today are mostly based on modern era Wackys from 2006 onward.
