Fun used book find
« on: April 08, 2024, 03:50:43 PM »
So my wife has gotten into collecting old Cookbooks.  In fact she's accumulating quite the library of 'em and they're always great to look at.  What makes this of interest here is that some contain the neatest things that people used as bookmarks, back in the day.  From old candy wrappers, concert and movie tickets to receipts you never know what you'll find.  Well here's a coupon she pulled out of a book recently and you'll instantly see what makes it so fun!  I assume it's from around 1967.

Unfortunately we have yet to find a Wacky used as a bookmark but I keep hoping to find one!

Sorry, but I don’t see why this is fun…is it just me?

Tom, well coming across the spitting image of OS 1 Minute Lice box in a 50 year old cook book was pretty neat.  It is now in my OS 1 binder and makes a fun little, connection to those days.  For me a bit of connected nostalgia.

This weekend my sister and I brought 9 boxes of old cookbooks to the library book sale.  I found some coupons as bookmarks, old medication lists, phone messages, you name it!  Some of the books were older than I am.  We kept only a few because of space issues.  I believe my mom had amassed more cookbooks than I have binders of Wackys!

I know what you mean, Pat, my mom has the same thing. Some of her cookbooks are here in FL and some in GA. When she and my dad were younger, she got a series of cookbooks of dishes from all 50 states.

Candy wrappers you say? 😄

I have a number of treasured pieces in my archives/collection that were found as bookmarks. Lest they’d never have survived.

That IS fun! 😀

I love discovering vintage ads or coupons showing the EXACT packaging that was parodied! Some titles are impossible, like Broadcast Corned Beef Hash.
I'm still searching for many from every single series.

There’s a topic on this forum that went through the original 16 series, I believe, with examples of the Wacky used packaging for many, if not most of the titles.

Yeah that was fun! I participated in that thread quite a bit. Still a bunch out there that I have not found images of the exact real packaging design.
