I ask again: what is the relevance of the Flashback sticker saying ‘76? The discussion was which 16ths had been reprinted. Garbage Candy was one of them. What else about it matters?

Besides, Patrick said that the image on the Flashback 2 sticker was taken from one of the 1979-1980 reprint series. What's the basis for this statement? Couldn't it have actually been taken from a 16th Series sticker? What's the difference, if any?

Plastered was talking about how many of the 30 16th series titles have been reprinted.
19 of the series titles are in the reprint sets, with two additional titles in Flashback 2.
What I said is that he didn’t bother to mention Garbage Candy in Flashback 2 (or the two titles in Flashback 1 either), because all of those titles are already included in those 19 reprints he mentioned.

This is what 55 untouched 16th series complete sets with puzzle look like!

Evidently shortly after the 16th series came out a comic book store in South Jersey opened one or two cases and tried to sell the complete sets for $3. For reasons I cannot comprehend, a youngster kept buying set after set and this is the result. At least that is the story that was given.

A find Greg was involved in, and has now OK’d me to mention publicly.

People should be aware if buying 16ths of this significant increase in overall supply!

It just sounds weird that he waited this long to come forward and sell these. Hopefully they are not phony reprints that look as good as the real thing.

Greg Grant is concerned this guy is going to flood the market and drive the value down, but this guy is doing just the opposite!! $2,000!!!! LOL

I found this item on ebay also, after reading the posts in the thread.   Interesting he says in the description that this auction "Doesn’t include Scoot No Copyright Card however that is for sale on my page separately!"   I see no Scoot auction from this same seller.   It all seems "not quite right".   He bought 55 sets, including 55 complete puzzles, in 1976?  Is that the story?

Interesting. I must say series 9 is one of the least memorable original series to me, so not completely surprising.

I guess I would put it in the middle of the pack, not one of the top series but not one of the worst, but more importantly, the ‘reprintability’ factor may have still been a function of C&D frequency more than fan favorites.

Gold Mine is an understatement, IMO this collector won the Bronze, Gold, and Silver at the Olympics.

I am not sure how many sets he has sold so far, but it looks like the prices will be coming down already.  He had had a set with puzzle for sale for a while now with  2K or BO price tag and no takers.  I will ride it out and maybe buy a set if they come down anywhere near 1K.  Hopefully that happens.

I think it should eventually, but the problem is always stubborn seller resistance to marketplace realities.

Yeah, i mean even at $1,000 or $1,200 per set, he would make a huge profit. I have seen people with a house way overpriced that sits there unsold for months…Maybe he is just testing the market..

The guy missed his opportunity to really cash in on those cards.  Now a lot of the collectors who would buy items like that are leaving the hobby.  Yes there are always new people coming in, but those higher price sets will be coming down soon. I think at 10-15 sets you will hit saturation, especially since I am noticing other people putting their series 16 items up. I just was scrolling ebay and the amount of series 16 puzzle pieces is really high right now.  and it is not full puzzles, just individual pieces

That seems to be what he has sold on his own so far. He also sold a bunch of sets to Greg.

Maybe i am being ignorant here, but why would Greg need multiple sets? To flip them? I gotta agree with Joe L…it seems like a few years ago during the covid frenzy would have been the optimum time to sell for maximum profit…

Has anyone heard anything more about this seller? I dont see any 16th series sets on e-bay….I see he sold one set that was listed at $1,950…Unfortunately, the way e-bay works, i cannot tell what offer was accepted…

The set sold on August 25 sold for $1950. It was a straight buy it now, not a best offer.
