NY Comic Con anyone?!
« on: September 09, 2022, 05:39:44 AM »
This many days until the 2022 NY Comic Con! As many of you already know, when it comes to shows, I'm pretty much a recluse, so doing two shows in one week is kind of unheard of.  If any of you can make it to either NY (Oct. 8th) or the Philly show (weekend of the 15th), definitely drop by the Topps table and say HI! Would be fun to talk shop, art or even just to argue about which Rays is the original pizza place!

Wish I could but I think they're for show attendees only.

How about "wish I could be an attendee"?

Speaking of NYCC

Thanks for the heads up!  Just bought a set.  Never heard of David Brody before, and a five card set is quite unusual, but glad it was only $10.

David Brody was a program director for Z100 in NYC who approached Topps about doing his own Wacky Packages set. He wrote the titles and I painted them along with the coupon backs. I think David will be at the show on Saturday doing a podcast so if you're in the area, listen in. You might get an earful of wacky lore!

This is definitely a strange one-off! No chase cards, no frills. Just a simple base set of 5?

Thanks for that backstory, Neil!  Sadly, there's no way I'll be able to attend, but if there is a podcast that he does that can be posted here, please do that.  I always enjoy some good Wacky lore :)

Yes. There’s two. Both are just visible in the bottom of that picture

Dumb question here…when they have those unique promo cards, is there a limit on how many you can grab? Asking for a friend

In this case, the cards were limited to 1 set (Meh + Couch Chockula) per ticket.

Thanks for the heads up on this set!

Actually I was an Executive Producer and Comedy Writer for the Nationally syndicated Elvis Duran and The Morning Show based out of Z100 NY for 24 years and a song parody writer and spoof commercial writer for the company's Comedy division. Lifelong Wacky Packages fan. (Never a program director though)

I hope you like my first stickers! Neil did an incredible job of bringing my ideas to life!

Very cool.  Just ordered.

Sorry I missed you guys this weekend.  I was at the show all day Thursday and Friday and then a Marvel alumni get together late Friday night.  It wiped me out, so no Saturday/Sunday for me.  But I did visit the Topps booth both days I was there, saw the GPK fortune teller which was cool.  Don't think they'd put out the Wacky promo yet, but that's how it goes sometimes.  :-)  Great to see Topps giving Wackys a little bit of love for the Con.

I second that inquiry. Cool shirt I have never seen and would quickly purchase if I could.

In this case, the cards were limited to 1 set (Meh + Couch Chockula) per ticket.

Count Chockula is in the new David Brody set, correct?  And I believe Meh was released before, but I'm not placing it.  If those two statements are correct, then the Wacky promo cards are not titles unique to the New York show.  Since I don't have the promo cards (and won't pay what I expect the going rates will be for them on ebay), I'm guess I'm not too bummed out I missed them.
