So, now it is finally April!! And the bitter cold has ended, thankfully.
I was just re-reading this entire thread, it is kind of like a synopsis of my life since retirement, except for the stroke.
My mad panic selling since my mom's passing has ended. Boy, was my accountant shocked to see that I had over $14,100 in ebay sales!! I sold way more than that off ebay; lots of Wackys and non-sports card sets to several people at bargain prices, and many of the toys to a local guy I met on ebay when he bought from me. I sent him an ebay message telling him my basement had enough stuff in it to fill up a toy and comic shop, only to get an immediate response that he was in the process of opening a new toy and comic store a few miles away and desperately needed stock! I swear, it was my mom watching over me. He ended up "shopping" in my basement for the next few months, and he would fill up his car and transport his "haul" of stuff to his new store. He started when it was warm, and went through the heat of summer, and the last thing he took away was two big empty bookcases, the day before I closed. It snowed that evening.
Then there was me. I had a contractor (actually my cousin) working at mom's house from June through the beginning of October, and basically had the house redone while it was mostly empty. We had originally moved in in 1981, and believe me, it NEEDED it!! And I had Home Depot redo the kitchen - mom and I had considered doing that the year before and we opted for new windows first, and I am so glad we did, since the kitchen was out commission for 2 months. And I paid a tiler to have the main bathroom redone. What a mess this place was. Meanwhile I was packing up stuff to be moved, waiting for there to be
room to bring it over, which was tough with the garage filled with flooring and tools........... The contractors were pretty much all done and gone by October, so I moved in and continued maintaining both houses. What a crazy 6 weeks! I had to take apart 24 sets of shelves a few sets at a time and bring them over here to reassemble, loading my Elantra with boxes of stuff I hadn't sold that would fit on the shelves after I had assembled them. I am not sure how, but somehow I managed it. Over 100 trips back and forth I am sure. Then a friend brought over my bedroom set and some odds and ends with a small trailer (2 trips), and I hired movers for a couch, chair and TV. Oh, and my sister made a few trips, filling her big SUV with my stereo, and some bookcases. Again, mom was looking out for me and it didn't get terribly cold out until I was finished. I was ready to be out of my house by Thanksgiving, but didn't manage to close until January 17th.
So now I only have the one house to worry about, which is a relief. Only one driveway to shovel (somehow I lost a shovel during the move, along with most of my marbles

) I am actually sorry I ever bought the old place, except that it made me happy for a little while, at least while my sister was still home with mom. But it had an 1100 sf basement which is a dangerous thing for a collector............
I still can't find some of my stuff, but such is life. And my Wacky room is a work in progress - I have too much Wacky artwork to keep (all post ANS), and will probably be offering a lot of it here. And the garage is overstuffed, but warmer weather is approaching! And I am starting to feel a little better.
I hope this missive answers some questions I have received. Stay Wacky!
