Does anyone here remember how much a vinyl LP record cost on average in, say, the 1970s when I was a kid?

I got 12 for a penny.

Thanks, Neil. About $6.00 back then compared to about $28.00 right now, that's a big difference, indeed.
I didn’t start buying my own vinyl until circa 1983-1989+/-.  Prior to that it was mostly cassettes for me.  By that time I think current releases on vinyl ran about $10 to $12, but titles that were a few years old could often be found in the $6 to $8 range.  A lot of it depended on whether you were buying from a small independent retailer, where prices always ran higher, vs a bigger chain store where better deals could be found.  I remember looking for the round ‘nice price’ sticker which was always indicative of a good price.

Ah, you’re referring to the infamous mail-away record clubs, aren’t you?  I did that a half dozen or so times in the mid-90s with CDs.  You had to buy 3 or 4 at full price after the initial group to complete the ‘contract’ and you had to cancel in writing so it took some time and patience, but if you saw it through you were looking at $4 to $4.50 per CD when you average it all out, not bad at all.  I saved hundreds doing that repeatedly.

I got into the LP scene the summer of '77....had just finished the 7th grade.  And I didn't stop buying them until 1987 when the CD craze hit.   And I bought a slew of CD's until the late 90's....when music basically died.   Oh there were still some gems after 2000, but few and far between.   I can't believe what passes as "rock"(??????) these days.

Ah, the late 70's and all of the 80's....music was awesome.   I feel sorry for anyone in high school these days.   "Oh boy, the new <insert singer with no talent and no band> is out!   Maybe they'll go on tour and I can watch them lip sync!!"

I still have every vinyl and every CD I ever bought.
Send me your borderless wackys!

I just got an email from a woman named Susan at Super Impulse. She told me that this series is, in her own words, "on hold".

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the update.  The whole company seems to be "on hold" at the moment.  Zero product that I come across.

Well, I've just sent Super Impulse a email on this and another one on the Micro Cards. If I get an answer, I'll report back.

I just received the following email from Toy Wiz, where I placed a pre-order for the Mini Series 4 months ago...

"Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize but we have received unfortunate word from our distributor in regards to the following item:

-World's Smallest Wacky Packages Minis Series 4 Mystery Box [24 Packs]

Our order was canceled completely and we will no longer be getting this item. Because of this we will not be able to fulfill your order. If you were charged you will be refunded. If there are other items on your order we will process them normally unless otherwise requested to have those canceled as well. Again we would like to apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused.

Thank You,
Jeremy
Customer Service
Toywiz Inc."

It was fun while it lasted!!!

Well, there's my answer for the Minis 4th Series; now all that's left to do is to get the one for the Micro Cards.

Looks like, in the first case, Greg turned out to be right after all. And to think no one believed him when he told us this the first time. Hah! Now who has the last laugh?

I was told by Super Impulse S4 will happen IF they find a retail buyer who is interested. This statement confirms WalMart and Target are no longer interested in Wacky Minis. We saw SI discount the Mini's when they sold them into CVS and some dollar stores. That is a negative move for SI. I think we can assume the Micro Wacky's did very little volume as they were only sold on Amazon and a few other online dealers. So SI probably feels Wackys have run their course for them. I guess we could do a campaign of calling Target HQ and demanding we get our Wacky Mini's back. Maybe if they get 10 calls per week for 6 months ; they will decide they need to bring Wacky Mini's back?    ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

When did we see this? Price per cup was still $5 at both CVS and Family Dollar. The price is even printed on the cup for the FD release.

Sorry, this is all my fault.  When I bought the fishing lure boxes to store them in, I bought enough for four series.  Oh well, I guess I'll go wash my car so I can make it rain.

Here's a few things you should try first in order to make it rain:

*set up a picnic lunch,
*parade around in a fancy hat,
*play a game of baseball (this always brings rain!).

If these don't work and you're really desperate, then wash your car and wax it to a fine gloss. If that one doesn't work, I don't know what will.

greggie pooh declared they were cancelled when they were not, they were postponed and I called out that perhaps greg can't tell the difference between those two terms.  If SI finds a retailer and does end up selling them, then what?  greggie poohs keeps flipping from right to wrong?  The series is still postponed looking for a retailer.  While I agree they will never come to market again because the company is corrupt and what goes around, comes around and it seems they aren't making money from it, the current state is still postponed(delayed with hope) not cancelled(final verdict never to be seen again).

WE never saw a discount. CVS and the Dollar stores did. That's why they stocked them.  They probably had a 70% margin on them.

Everyone who ordered this series got a letter from Super Impulse that said it was canceled. One of those letters is shown above. Whatever gave you the idea that it was postponed until further notice? Wake up and smell the coffee! Look around you! Open your eyes! The evidence is all around you: this series is gone and it's not coming back. Why don't you just admit that you were wrong? There's no shame in that.

Buyers received an Email from ToyWiz stating it was cancelled; not SI. SI told me it was postponed and will come out IF they find a buyer.
I want to be able to purchase this release; so am glad that there is still a small chance that it sees the light of day.

I would also love to see a series 4, though I have no idea who that buyer would be.  After Target and Walmart, who's the biggest bricks and mortar retailer these days?

In addition to Walmart and Target, Toys R Us also sold Wackys from the modern run (in fact, many of the ANS Bonus Stickers that were released within ANS1 and ANS11 came from Bonus Boxes that were sold by them), but they're long since gone by now. The first two of these three stores are the only ones left that could do it but, for unknown reasons, they've chosen not to.

In fact, going off-topic for a brief minute, Toys R Us was the only brick and mortar store that I know of that sold both of the Wax Eye Productions trading card series Cereal Killers Series 1 and Cereal Killers Series 2 back in 2011 and 2012, respectively (at least, that's what I've heard somewhere along the line).

I just wanted to mention that back in May I saw the series 3 minis for sale at 7 eleven. Not sure of the price. Looks like Super Impulse is getting rid of excess stock.

If we never get any more Wacky Mini's.: I am grateful they were sold for a few years. They were a blast to chase down at retail.
The Ebayer Minute Mud Fiasco and wallet draining sales strategies (Fugettaboutit Gold Windhex, Silver Bar Kist) employed by SI were not fun; but overall they crushed it by including stickers with the minis. I can't think of any other wacky pack outsourced project that was as cool as the Minis.   ;) ;) ;) ;)     It was very cool to end it with the Red Stain Commie Mystery.

Regards,  Andrew

I just discovered at my Target today that Zuru Mini Brands released a Retro series. I was going to buy a few, but the high price scared me off a little. Would love to get a few of these that match the vintage Wacky Packages minis. I found a photo of them and a scan of the checklist.

They should have learned and reduced production to create a sell out of inventory - not dump it to 2nd and 3rd hand resellers.

Maybe a kickstarter!!!
