Wax Wrappers
« on: March 30, 2022, 05:14:59 PM »
Hi all,

I've been able to acquire a handful of old wrappers.  However, there are still a number I need.  Here's a list:

Die Cuts
Wacky Ads
Cloth
1973 Poster
1974 Poster
Tattoos
Series 1-3 red (preferably a "21" fold variety)
Series 3-5 yellow (preferably a "21" fold variety)
Series 5-7 blue regular w/gum (preferably a "21" fold variety)
10 purple (would like all three Quacker color variants, if possible)
1st Rerun
1982 Album
1985 Irish
1986
1991

Does anyone have extras of these to sell?  Please PM with prices.  Thanks.

I’m not sure what you mean by “three Quacker color variants.” Are you referring to the fact that the blue on the 21 and 85 fold wrappers is a slightly different shade? Because there are lots of shade variations with other wrappers too.

What I'm referring to is that the Quaker Oats container on that wrapper could actually be seen in three different colors.  These links go to Greg Grant's wrapper pages:

And what I’m saying is that the differences in shade of the two blue Quacker cans are shade differences that are not unique to the 10th series wrappers. For example, look at the difference in the blue shades on the 21 and 85 fold 3rd series wrappers:

Huh, very interesting.  Never realized this.  Is this true of all the series, or just some?

No, it isn’t true of all series, the blue cans on the later series yellow wrappers are all light I believe. There are some other shade differences that have been discussed, I would have to go back and look. Some green wrappers are darker than others, for example. The dark ones were primarily 11th series 21-fold wrappers and 9th series 85 fold wrappers I think.

The difference isn’t so obvious from these pictures but is clearer in hand.

I don't know about the color differences but of the 4 photos you posted, packs 1 and 3 are very different from packs 2 and 4 in that the "new new new" is positioned higher on 1 and 3 and lower on 2 and 4, such that there is white visible on the Quacker can along with the bottom of the "i" in Tied (2 and 4) vs. no white visible in Quacker and no bottom of the "i" visible (1 and 3).

I'd be interested to know the codes on these packs and which ones are 21 vs 85.  1 and 3 appear to be 21's while 2 and 4 appear to be 85's.

thanks

Dave, it’s the opposite. 1 and 3 are 85s and 2 and 4 are 21s.

My bad....yes, 85's are the top and bottom folds...   what about the "new new new" orientation?   I would think this would be more of a variation than the colors....

[edit] or is that simply an 85 vs 21 fold anomaly?

Yes, that’s a fundamental feature of 21 vs. 85
