2017 MLB Cards
« on: January 19, 2022, 05:51:29 PM »
Hi all, quick question about that ultra-limited MLB opening day set from 2017.  Does anyone know what these cards looked like?  Any pics?  Since they’re impossible for most people to find, would be nice to have some visual record of them.

Well, what do you know?  I found the answer to my own question.  They're on the TCDb, if anyone's interested.

That’s a great site!
I had gone there for Odd Rod card images not that long ago, but had forgotten about since.

I saw most of those went for $100, or over, each.

Surprised the postcard versions went so high. Wonder if some thought they were the chase cards?

Are you referring to the limited edition postcard set? I saw a complete set sold for 67.00 last november. Either people don't know what they're buying or the cards selling for $100 now are the silver or gold printing variants.

They were the regular “of 49” cards. Just like the ones in that complete set sold last fall
Even the sepia ones for sale went for over $75 each

I seem to recall buying the MLB postcards on Topps website, but I'm still confused if I have the ones selling for big bucks.

Need to refer to the Master Spreadsheet!

They were the 2017 Opening Day 5x7 cards. I think they were limited to 49 cards for each title. Here is one example:

Yep, I definitely saw the listings on eBay.  Made me think I might be able to track these down eventually, which would be cool.  I didn't bother with those particular auctions, though, because I foresaw a potential problem: if I bid and missed out on even one card, I would be stuck in a situation where I'd find myself having some cards and needing others, and sets like that, which came as full sets, are usually sold all together, which would probably mean that I'd eventually be forced to buy duplicates of the cards I already possessed and thus waste my money (and time).  Frankly, I'm surprised that the seller broke up the set; I think that was a bad call on their part.  Wonder if the same person even managed to win them all.  If not, well, for those who won, good luck trying to find the cards you're missing individually.

Anybody around here have a set of these and willing to part with it? ;) I did also post in the thread about this in the buy requests section.

I have a non-forum member friend who also asked me just today if I knew anyone who had an extra basic set of these postcards.  I don't even remember knowing about these  :P  In any case, add me to the list of people looking for the MLB postcard set.

I bought my set of the 5x7 almost a year later - no one cared about them! For good reason, really, the MLB stuff is terribly weak.

I'm still trying to find the sticker-size cards, those are nigh impossible to find. A pair of them went for $250 on eBay recently.

I sold a set of postcards and two of the standard size cards on Ebay late last year. The postcards did not pull much ; but the standard size cards sold for over $100 each I think.  I am not a baseball fan so did not care much about them.
