Agree - Zonkers had more of a buttery toffee flavor.

I liked the Zonkers without nuts. Love nuts and Zonkers...just not together.

I just looked it up and I'm afraid I have some bad news. Conagra discontinued Screaming Yellow Zonkers in 2007 after they acquired Lincoin Foods.

But there's also good news: Conagra has reissued it on a limited basis at Walgreens as of 2012 at various times.

Fiddle Faddle is also found at various U.S. discount and drug stores.

I remember buying SYZ at Walgreens.  Couldn't have told you the year, but 2012 sounds about right.  I love that stuff!

Excellent! Sorry I spelled your name wrong. i before e!

I seriously wish I could replicate the flavor of Doo Dads and make my own at home, but there's always one thing missing.

The Canadian arm of Nabisco still makes a near-version of Doo Dads called "Bits and Bites".  Last time I found it was a few years ago, and it wasn't easy to find up there, but it's definitely the Doo Dads seasoning formula if not the exact assortment of ingredients anymore.

I guess you can buy it on Amazon as an import, but a lot of reviewers complain that you need to spend a lot of money for just the tiny bag.

At this point, I'll just make a home recipe as close as the original as possible.

My hail mary hope is that, since it's still "kinda" made in Canada, Nabisco has the capability to produce it again. And, they might just get around to it one day.  Crossing fingers.

The sad reality is, even giant companies like Mars and Nabisco can lose the practical ability to make certain products after a time.  Some of it has to do with manufacturing capabilities and some with loss of recipes and so on. But it really happens.  The assumption that billion dollar companies can do anything simply by way of spending the money isn't necessarily always true.

But in this case, producing Doo Dads again would actually seem to be within some realm of possibility.

I have never had Doo Dads. How is it different from Chex Mix, for example?

They are both party mixes, but with significantly different flavor profiles. Hard to describe, but they are no more the same than Life Cereal is to Apple Jacks.

I wish I could do better in pointing out the differences.  One is Chex Mix flavored, the other is Doo Dads flavored.  :-)

Sorry for getting off the Old School subject! One last thing...

There are lots of "Doo Dads" recipes online that you can make at home. But a lot of these people are using the term "doo dads" like people calling printing copies "xeroxes". Some of these recipes have Cherrios and different nuts or spices. Nobody can replicate the original formula.

It was basically this formula:

Chex (Rice and Wheat)
roasted peanuts
pretzel sticks
Nabisco Cheese Tidbits (not sold anymore)
+ other flavorings

Even Kellogg's has copied Chex Mix using Crispix for its Crispix Mix.

Some of my friends used to make the chex mix at home and distribute it in sandwich bags - I recall that soy sauce was a main ingredient!
Doo dads was different and yes, it was probably the flavorings and cheese tidbits - I hadn't thought about that product in decades!

Quick update on the Old School contest. I have been waiting until we get closer to the actual shipping date to do it and I also am getting a donation of roughs from Pete Zies that were used for the set as giveaways. I have enough prizes for EVERYONE in the contest to get something now. So look for an announcement in this space soon.

And will the OS10 shipping notices come before or after the shipping notices for the Wacky Packages March 2022 sets?

Daryl, you know I have no idea on that. I don't work at Topps. I get piece meal info related to projects I work on as a freelancer.

Received my shipping notice too. I'll see how long it takes this time with free shipping.

Hopefully there will be some trading going on when I get these.

You might check on the Topps website and look at your orders. I've not received a Fed Ex shipping notice before but found the item had shipped.

I placed 3 orders and got shipping notices for 2 of them.  What is interesting is that for these Old School 10 orders, the estimated shipping date per Topps.com was "Mar 09, 2022 - Mar 11, 2022."

Mine says that the expected delivery date is today, but at 10:44 this morning the package was in Yulee, Florida, which is 585 miles away.  Since I didn't pay extra for shipping, I'm sure they'll drive it up, so I'm not expecting it for a couple of days.

Why doesn't FedEx get smart and start multiplying their expected delivery time by four like Scotty, then they could look like miracle workers when it arrives early?

Received my notice Monday, and quite shockingly received my order last night!

Haven’t opened any yet, but did check out the box

Just the same old black box for On Demand, and not an old School box.
Bummer!!!
