Looking for OPC 1987 & 1988

I am looking for sealed O-pee-chee wax boxes for years below. Does anyone have any? Also interested in sets linked.

It’s a good thing you are more interested in the 80/s early 90s period. Unopened material from the 70s OPC sets is virtually non-existent. In fact, the 1st series OPC may be the only wacky unopened pack that no one in the collecting era has ever seen.

So true, but it’s been very hard to find these as well - but obviously not as hard as 1970s. I saw only one listing for the first 1988 (series 4) and the guy wants $630 for was and 220$ for the card set!!! I have to believe it’s out there and at a reasonable price….

I should add I am in Canada, and it seems not many people want to ship here, or the shipping/import price are too crazy. Might need to open a Canada only Wacky Packages store 😂

Could you enlighten me as to the differences in OPC stickers? I know they are the Canadian version, but are the stickers or packaging different???

It depends on the series. The original 1970s OPCs, as well as the reissues from the late 80s, have a different copyright. The 1979-1980 stickers are identical to their Topps counterparts, however.

The packaging is totally different for OPC. Here are some examples of what the OPC packs look like for different series:

1970s series:

1979-1980 reissues:

1985:

1987:

1988:

1989:

1992:

Other examples include the 1992 OPC is 48 cards, several less than the Topps version from 1991. They are also not in same order. There are variations on backs as well. Finally, no Barfs card in the OPC version.

In the 1987 set a few of cards end up in two slots.

The other benefit of o-pee-chee is less were made of them in general but relative to population more prevalent. Most kids of 1980s in Canada were spoiled by sets in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1992. So many of us Canadians have nostalgia for these sets the way some of 1970s kids in USA feel about Wackys. Funny enough most Opeechee I end up buying is in the USA. Go figure!

If anyone is looking for 1988 Series 5 (1989) - found these folks and pricing was VERY reasonable: https://ebay.us/UTju9R

I thought I would share, because it's important to support the good dealers. Boxes came in looking case fresh!

I should mention as well I have the sets I was seeking. I got them last night from a local seller. Best way to avoid the dreaded shipping and import fees…

Those seem to be the most common of the OPC 1987 and 88 boxes available.  I've seen them listed as low as $49 before outside of eBay.

For me, up in Canada, haven’t see in that low recently except maybe before Covid. However you are right, the more common box is 1988 series 5 (technical 1989 release). Steve Bailey had the 1988 version (series 4) - but now he’s down to six packs. I guess I’ll know more when the big Canadian card shows start up again. There is one slated for November.

If you have a source for 49 USD - for the 1988 (red packs), please drop me a PM. I haven’t found one.

It was definitely before COVID.  I think it was Blow Out Cards, but they don't seem to have any at the moment.
