"The ALIEN ANTHOLOGY is a truly unique home entertainment experience. The set also includes two versions of each film and over four hours of previously unreleased exclusive material such as original screentests of Sigourney Weaver prior to filming the original ALIEN, , unseen deleted scenes, thousands of still photographs from the Fox archives, the previously unseen original cut of “Wreckage and Rage: The Making of ALIEN3,” and much, much more."

Cool. The first ALIEN film was one of those rare movies that kept me guessing the whole time. It was before female heros were in vogue (this movie might have set the trend). When the person I pegged to he the hero, Tom Skerrit (sp?) was the 2nd one to be offed,  I went, "whoa". Since Weaver was not well known, I certainly didn't predict her being the main character. Other little twists like the stomach explosion scene and scene where the doctor is exposed as an android kept me off center. In fact, at the showing we were at, the film broke about half way through and no one complained. Everyone was glad for a few minutes to get their heart rate back to normal. The way this movie steadily increased the suspense level has not been equaled in many other movies I have seen.

Interesting perspective on the movie.  I read the book before seeing the movie when it originally came out and there was a lot of info about it in OMNI magazine back then as well.  So I knew going into the movie what was going to happen and thinking about it now, that may have cheapened the experience for me.
Giving "The Hobby" the finger since 1999!

I was a regular reader of OMNI back then and they had spoiled SCI-FI flicks for me before. I remember looking at the Gieger artwork in OMNI that inspired the alien designs but remember purposely not reading the articles because of being burned previously. I think it was CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND that OMNI kind of ruined for me.

Let me know how they look. I've been debating getting this set.  The bluray discs were probably manufactured here in Terre Haute at the Sony facility where I work.

Hi…I’ve watched two of the four movies so far. I don’t think being on the Blu-Ray format enhances the movies much…if any. I still have the last two to watch, but I already conclude that if someone is a hardcore Alien fan…go for it…there is lots of extras. But most other people that already have the movies on DVD would be disappointed if they bought the Blu-Ray version hoping to see a much improved picture.

Perhaps you should buy the Blu-Ray set and see for yourself. I’ve watched these movies over 15 times each on DVD. I see a slight improvement with BD, but no major eye candy as far as what HD is capable of.  I like my new set nonetheless.

No disrespect but these guys found the picture amazing. I know what you mean though. I have gotten older 1980's movies on blu-ray only to be let down. Usually a studio doesn't take time to clean up the footage for blu-ray and it sucks.

If you are comparing large TV's, like 50" and up, there is a significant difference between HD and non-HD, but smaller sets not so much.  I had this same issue with my girlfriend because she doesn't acknowledge the difference and it frustrates me.  Now she wears her glasses when she watches TV (at least when I', with her)!  Cablevision has 2 sets of channels, one for HD and one for non-HD.  I bought her an HD set for her bedroom last year, and I'll still catch her watching the cropped non-HD version of a show when it's available in HD, and it bugs me!!

I'm definitely an HD snob.  Our digital cable has many HD packages (and more cable channels are also offering HD alternatives too).  If there is an HD channel, I'll watch it versus the non-HD version.  The difference is very clear when your TV can handle the better picture quality.
