Beastball Lost Wacky

I’m sure this has already been discussed, but is it accepted that the Beastball lost wacky was based on the 1982 Topps Baseball pack?

That's the match.
Topps used that same lame design for a decade, but 1982 is the only one with the same colors and design elements. (other than moving the topps logo out of the ball).

Does anyone know what series this was meant for (if any), or if it was a specially-made Wacky for something?

I always assumed 1985.  Same basic red and yellow colors, but missing the win banner and yellow splash in the lower right corner.

This piece always looked incomplete (there are no gags about gum or cards, in fact there is no lettering on the bottom of the card).

Instead of using this piece, they wound up re-purposing the 1975 Beastball, in the 1985 set, with a new date and reworked logo at the top and gags at the bottom.

other than the red wrapper, that 1985 is not really a good match.
The word Baseball is in blue on that one, whereas the 1982 and the sticker are both dark green.

If you look at the version of this Wacky in the Chrome series, there's text on the bottom of the wrapper. I'm presuming this is the right version and the Flashback one is in error.

Yes, it has the same tag line “creepy cards with shocking bubble gum.”
