I thought it may be nice to have a separate thread for us to talk about
January's set, figuring that we should start getting our shipments any day now.
For me, it's the most solid set in a long time, not a bad title in the bunch!
The gags are great, the artwork is even better!
I think my favorites (for the ones I've seen, and it's most of them) are Fez,
Hamburger Belcher, Escher Sketch (that title alone cracks me up...), Poofs and
Big Pulp (Pat C is amazing!)
You beat me to it! I just finished opening my sets a little while ago.
First off, I agree, this is a quality set. When they were weekly "sets" I had a hard time appreciating the art because it seemed all my time was going towards keeping track of what I had received, what I was waiting for, etc.. Much as I wanted to, I never could get around to a review thread. Hell, I didn't get my July through December sets into pages until a few weeks ago, and that was an awful lot to digest at once. And this set was shipped very quickly!!
Having a "wrapper" cover card for the checklist is fantastic. And the special Wacky Packages box is a really nice touch. I also appreciate that there is less packaging waste - 10 sets is 10 bubble envelopes instead of 40!!
So glad they stopped with the Ludlows!!! And, as I mentioned elsewhere, I prefer not having special Guest Artist cards - just let the guest artists contribute to the set, and publish artist names on the sale webpage! This is much cleaner, especially since the monthly checklists in 2020 included the GA cards, even though they were chase cards.
I already have my January sets in pages, and have some initial favorites, but want to wait a day or two to pore over them a little more, but Flubb and Cranky Land struck me as wonderful right away.
