Wacky CPSIA info
« on: September 06, 2010, 11:44:58 AM »
I was noticing how with ANS7 that there is now an excessive amount of tiny type on the back of every single card in the set except the center puzzle pieces. And it's not just the copyright info, but also a statement of "For Tracking Info, Please See www.topps.com. Code #7771001"

I guess the cool thing about this additional info is that it now tells us exactly who, where and when the cards were printed!
Go to the topps site and input the 7771001 code and you get:

Code        Product Name                  Manufacturer        Address                                          Manufacture Date
7771001   Wacky Packages Series 7   Cartamundi USA   5101 Highland Place, Dallas TX 75236   7/16/10 - 7/30/10

playing around with the topps site, it looks like only codes 7771001 through 7771009 were all reserved for Wackys, and are all with Cartamundi except 7771006, which is Universal Printing Co., Inc.

the odd thing is, most of these reserved code #'s have not even shown up, and most that have shown up are not in the topps database. This is what I have so far:

7771001  Base set of 55
7771002  WOMs - all colors
7771003  Bonus Cards & Collector Kit Ad Card
7771011  Cereal Cards
7771013  Foil Cards
7771015  Web Cards
7771016  Sketch Cards

now why in the world are these numbers even on the cards? Well, since wackys are for children, they are now required by law to have a tracking number. For our children's improved safety of course!!

I remember Dave telling us about this at the NYC con a year ago, and at the time it looked like there was going to be a requirement for codes on the Old School stickers.  I was happy they were able to leave it off those - maybe because it was a web only release and aimed at adults?

Yes, the law is for products intended for children 12 and under. OLDS was for adult collectors. We may still have to put it on the next series anyway but instead may just have to mark the box / packs with some kind of small 13+ type of mark like they do on video games. Still looking into all this. It's really stupid.
