Tulip mania describes a period in Dutch history when prices for some bulbs of the newly introduced and very fashionable flowers reached extremely high levels and then dramatically collapsed in February 1637.  This is considered the first example of a speculative bubble.  Hmmm...

If buying for profit helps me in my card collecting cardboard sets... then I'm all in...  sign me up now ! There's not enough high grade original Wack Pack cards to go around and when they do, they go fast and expensively. I have looked at the digital platform and I do like the rarity and different variations the've come up with. Blockchain isn't going anywhere... If you snooze you lose ! This who choose not to embrace the new technology are doomed to extinction and will ask themselves why didn't I get in on it early Imho... I say bring on The digital Wacky Packs !

I do not want to have to have a special internet account to register and verify ownership of collectibles.  Who knows, valuable digital cards might attract hackers.  And, are there any laws about who inherits accounts upon a collector's death?

For better or worse, it seems that I am Wilma.

My regret is I missed out on the initial sale... these prices don't lie. I just bought my 1st card today which is an Adam Bomb 8a... so we'll see how it goes... I'm all in  ;)

OK, I checked this out.  Can someone please explain to me how a seller can reasonably charge $4.20 (or any shipping) for a virtual card???  Maybe they mail an empty top loader in a bubble envelope?

I know nothing about these but a myriad of questions come to mind. Do you use a special app to view them? How are they verified as authentic? Are they traded and transferred through an app? Why are they called blockchain?

Wax is the company that runs the platform.  They have their own coin/token, similar to bitcoin on any other blockchain currency.  Topps cards can be purchased for Wax coins and are digital goods on the platform.  Ebay does not represent all sales of virtual GPK.

Blockchain currencies are more secure than your social security number, bank account, etc.  As long as you store your wallet info securely, you are fine.  In fact, some would say currencies like Bitcoin are too secure, as there as now way to retrieve your coins if you lose your wallet info.  There were early miners that mined a few hundred bitcoin when it first started, then threw out their hard drives/computers that contained their wallets.  One bitcoin is currently worth $9,200, so there are millions of dollars worth of them that are gone forever.

You can read more about how block chain currencies work here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blockchain

Personally, I would not consider these cards to be a good long-term investment at this time.  Digital currencies and items tend to shoot up quickly at launch and then slowly come back down.  Getting in at launch and then getting out at the peak is the way to do things.

Good question.  Maybe they are physically mailing the wallet info as proof of delivery to avoid a chargeback from scammers?

Or, it could be that the last item they sold on Ebay had that shipping price and they didn't bother to change it.  When I list new items, Ebay tends to set my last shipping charge as the price for shipping that item as well.  This has turned out bad for me if I haven't caught it and the new item is much heavier.

I'd happily trade my bottle of air, without the bottle.  They'd have to throw in a Run Tony, Grime Heavy, Pupsi, and a few others to get the bottle.

yeah I gather this is a print it out yourself type of set, meaning true value is worthless. there are comics out there that you can only get if you print them yourselves. just seems worthless. I'd like to get real ones of some of them, but it just seems like so much paper, that a real actual copy.

I hate this stuff too... but the writing's on the wall with both future-tech and pandemic-limitations colliding.  Digital collectables don't carry germs, can't get 'corner-dings', don't take any more room to store than a flash-drive, and don't cost money to print.  Once the last Boomer or Gen-X card collector kicks, the crypto-billionaires will move in & change "collectables" for good.  That's not to say the same people who have been filling and ironing packs or rubber-stamping camel backs won't become digital dupers, of course.
