Goodbye Mr. Peanut
« on: January 22, 2020, 04:53:08 PM »
Just heard the news today about the death of Mr. Peanut at 104.  I wonder if this means that Saunders' version on Plastered Peanuts officially died as well??...

Having grown up in Chesapeake, the neighboring city of Suffolk, VA, the peanut capital of the world, I will surely miss him.  My dad coached a baseball team when I was too young to play, and his assistant coach worked for Planters.  Needless to say, we had plenty of Mr. Peanut stuff in the early '70s.

It looks like he went out with honor.  I have many fond Mr Peanut memories. He will be missed.

That commercial was sad.

However, as they say in soap opera and comic book universes, "If you don't find the body, they're not dead!"

I've got a feeling there's more to this than meets the eye.

I predict either a new Mr. Peanut will take over like his "son" will appear in his funeral commercial or maybe they go the Baby Yoda route and bring in a cute baby version of him. They are definitely not dumping Mr. Peanut permanently.

I worried for a moment before I clicked the thread link. Glad that David, AKA Plastered Peanut, is OK

I know Rob. That was my first thought too. Should maybe change the title of the thread.

That's what I thought, and I was relieved when I realized what the thread was about.  I have changed the original title, and all replies.  I also edited out David's last name in one of the posts.

My very humble apologies to David (Plastered Peanut).  As someone who has only recently returned to the forum after many years in Wacky hibernation, I completely forgot about everyone's handle on here.  I will gladly accept the "Ajerx" award for today.  Thanks for changing the title of my post, too.  I'll use my All-Brain before clicking next time.

Weird... I don't remember Mr. Peanut having a beard... or YOU wearing a monocle!  I guess it's been 15 years, though.  Time's been good to you, man.  (heh)

Hey, Scott, I not only wear one monocle now, but two.  My vision ain't getting any better!  And I believe Mr Peanut went with the beard to help him look the 100+ years old that he is.  He got tired of always being carded when he ordered a beer ;)

Hope you are doing well, my friend!

Planters stopped teasing the Mr. Peanuts death campaign on social media since the tragic death of Lakers basketball player Kobe Bryant.
