Was OS7 sold the same way at the same price? That seems...high.

Yes, Old School 7 was the same price and pack contents, except that this time we're also getting a title card.

Likewise, I will have an extra base set. I ordered two sets to be able to get/trade for the complete pencil set.

The new set is up!  Ordered mine.  Glad it's available for a week.  Hope the sales numbers are good.  :great:

I am on the Topps website now and don't see it....  I only see the Go to the Movies and the 50th Anniversary boxes...  what am I missing?

Now that the ordering window is closed for the set, are there any early reports of how this series did sales-wise?

Still waiting for the website update to show sales #. Other than that, we know it did not completely sell out.

Wait... I thought they didn't print these until after they knew the number of orders? How can it sell out?

True, the cards themselves could have an unlimited print run, but there’s a specific number of sketch cards that are created before the sales start, putting a cap on the number.

That's correct. There has to be a cap with having sketch cards. So if they made 1500 sketch cards (for example) there would be 500 sets. I don;t know the numbers. I was told it almost sold out though.

If they don't "sell out", what happens to the leftover sketches? Asking for a friend  :P

Typically 5-7 business days after the end of sale, so late this week and into next, if they are on schedule

I would expect around two weeks or so. My fault. I had an insane deadline and only got the set done at the very last minute. The last minute that was a few days late so they are a few days late going out to the printer as well. I would not compromise on quality so my attitude was they are done when they are done.

Seriously? That's ridiculous. Why wouldn't they return them to the artists? Artists have other avenues to move that product.

I'm not sure what that means. The first year they did these they did partial sets with the $50 option but did not do it for Olds 7 or 8. Barely anyone bought the $50 option. Like just a few literally.

If I had to guess I'd guess they had 1500 sketch cards which would have been worth 500 sets (3 sketches per set) so they were short 33 sets of a sell out. They owe me a few sets from this as well so I should be getting a few of these.

Topps oddly listed their sales for both olds 6 & 7 by the number of $50 sets sold, regardless how many of them were actually the $150 sets. So divide those numbers by 3

Olds 6 sold 400 (a complete sell out)
Olds 7 sold 318
Olds 8 sold 477

That doesn't look too bad then.  I have to wonder just how many more would sell if they offered simple base sets along with the premium set with sketches.  Hard to tell.

I'm thinking they did 400 for the OS6 then upped it to 500 for OS7 and that didn't look as good (the lack of some of the top sketch card people burned this set) and then this set jumped considerably (helped by better sketch people and I think the 80s theme. Plus I did a lot of Internet postings on FB, Instagram and Twitter). Adam Goldberg also advertised it on Twitter for us.

I'm looking into different selling options for the next set.

Me too. Many of the coupon backs are hilarious! They remind me of the '69 Wacky Ads. If you haven't checked them out, you're missing out IMO.

I guess I should probably back-pedal a bit.  It's not that I don't think the coupon-backs, etc., are funny or of good quality... they probably are.  I just never liked the idea of having them there, so I never looked.  Traditionally, the backs are supposed to be the "discarded" part of the sticker.  So, even though we collectors don't actually peel, stick, and discard... there's something about there being art on the back that doesn't feel right.  And the "black border" around each Wacky title is also a nice focal vehicle that draws the eyes in to the "business end" of the piece, so without it, it doesn't draw me in.  I guess I should probably go back and read them.  But I suppose I'm just a purist.  Anyway... I certainly didn't want to throw any shade at the gag quality on the backs, which I'm not at all qualified to judge having never read one.

Yes, please do check them out. Another nice element of the coupons is they feature products from the previous series which I always thought was cool too.

I suppose part of it is just the difference in 'expendable time' we have now vs. when we were kids, too.  Putting sets together now when ANS stuff comes out ends up being a simple process of opening a new pack, looking at the numbers, putting the numbers in order and assembling a complete set.  There's no need to consult the checklist.  And without the whole afternoon to kill, hangin' out on the front lawn on a 70's summer day, chompin' on stale gum, there's no time to really look deeply at each title in detail.  It's my own fault that I don't relate to the ANS stuff, really.  But it's also the different process.  If I'd been this busy as a kid, and bought them in stacks of full boxes... I wouldn't have spent the time concentrating on every inch of art and every gag then either.
