A question regarding the extra 1967 12 die cuts
« on: August 15, 2019, 05:44:21 PM »
Regarding the extra numbers of the 1967 Die cuts, how come they are high up in price such as No. 6 Grave train or No. 21 Jolly Mean giant?I was even told that the No.21 Jolly mean giant is worth more than the No.32 Ratz die cut.How can that be?Someone please educate me on this one.

I believe it's just a matter of scarcity.

Jolly Mean 21 is really the rarest die cut in total
6-Up 23 is pretty rare too, I believe the next rarest variation
Grave Train 6 is worth a solid $200-300
Chock 5 is kind of common
Duzn’t 2 is around $100 of a card
Cracked Jerk 38 and Weakies 32 are very common
Skimpy 15 is just rarer than Duzn’t 2, I think
Breadcrust 37 is around Duzn’t
Quacker 18 is a bit less than Grave Train 6
Maddie Boy 21 is around Quacker 18 too
Maddie Boy 43 is similar to Maddie 21

I forgot one, not sure which. I’m also a bit rusty on this, someone more qualified could correct me.

Something to keep in mind is that there should be a complementary relationship between the scarcity of each non-repeat die cut and the number variation that replaced it.

For example, 23 6-up being tougher would suggest Muller’s is more common.

National Spittoon,You covered all 12 extra 1967 Die cuts. You mentioned Maddie Boy No.21 and 43 together.I decided last night that it is a lot easier for me just to make a color copy of the front and back of these 12 extra 1967 die cuts and be satisfied with that.

IF someone  were to make a color reprint of the front and back of these extra 1967 die cuts on Ebay,
(No. 2-Duzn't,No. 5 Chock full of Nuts and Bolts,No. 6-Grave train,No. 15-Skimpy,No.18-Quacker oats,No. 21-Jolly Mean giant,No.21-Maddie Boy,No.23-6 Up,No.32 Weakies,No.37 Breadcrust hash,No.38-Cracked Jek and No.43-Maddie Boy),I would possibly bid on them as long as the asking price is cheap. Otherwise I am content with the color xerox copies of them. The original 1967 die cut cards are just too pricey for this guy.

Another option would be to just collect the basic set of 44. What is the point of making a Xerox copy when the only thing different about the card is a number on the back (and possibly the die cut)?

That's exactly what I was thinking.

Paul Maul, what you said in the long run makes sense.Unfortunately I already made the 12 color xerox copies from my own printer. However it did not cost me a cent to do it. I also made up my mind not to even bid a reprint of those 12 1967 die cuts on Ebay .Personally I think it does not make sense for anyone to pay a crazy price for a No.21 Jolly mean giant die cut when you can easily find the No.43 Jolly mean giant 1967 die cut fora more reasonable price.I would just be satisfied to find all 44 variations from 1967 and be content with that.

Your logic isn’t standing for me. You’d be fine purchasing a Ratz or Cracked, but not a Jolly Mean 21? In all cases, they all sell for near the same while the Jolly Mean is rarer than both the others.

Just pointing it out. Different strokes, I suppose.

To National Spittoon,When I mentioned finding all 44 titles of the 1967 Die cuts,I did mean Cracked Animals and Ratz as well. Shelling out two to three thousand apiece for a Ratz or Cracked Animals unpunched die cut is DEFINITELY worth it.

I would not bother trying to find a Jolly Mean giant No.21 unpunched 1967 die cut only because to me ,it would not make sense if the No.43 title is the same thing for a much cheaper  price.

The No. 21 Moron salt 1967 die cut also seems to go for a  reasonable price for the most part.I personally think that having the 44 original titles would be good enough. However that is ONLY my opinion. Some of the die hard wacky sticker collectors would like the challenge of not only finding the 44 titles but the extra 12 additional titles as well. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as they can afford the prices.

If you store these in an album, you could buy the 12 titles punched and just put them where the number variations belong.  Punched ones are typically very cheap (except Ratz and Cracked) and would be just as nice as xerox copies.  They might even be the number variations, but without the border, you can't tell.

What would be the point of using a punched version as a replacement for a number variation when it has no identification with the number variation? Seems like it would be easier just to collect 1-44. But everyone should do what makes them happy!

To Dr.Ono,Thanks for your input.I actually have stored all my 1967 Wacky die cuts in a album.I even did that with all my 1973  to 1976 wacky series from series 1 to 16.IT is a lot easier that way than using plastic card holders which takes up a lot more space in the long run.

You already have a set...? I find it odd that you didn’t have this info considering it’s common knowledge at this point. I’m not trying to heckle you for being a new collector, but I don’t know many new collectors who have a full set of die cuts...

I would prefer it over a xerox copy.  At least it's really a die cut, and it could be the number variation that someone punched.

Until I had the money for unpunched die-cuts, I went with a punched set.  If/when I ever get a Ratz, the die-cut set will be up for grabs (once I find the safe place I put the punched Cracked and Ratz.........).
