Latest Inquiry
« on: July 22, 2019, 05:43:11 PM »
I have been out of touch for a little while.I just wanted to find out if any of you dedicated Wacky sticker collectors every so often on Ebay see a unpunched 1967 "Cracked Animals" or "Ratz" die cut that is being offered  at  a somewhat affordable price.I have not seen anything of Ratz on Ebay for awhile, however I have seen the Cracked Animals unpunched version.I also did recently see a punched out Ratz die cut from 1967.I do have the feeling that the punched out versions are probably the best that can be found at this point that is affordable.I am welcoming any feedback from any of the collectors regarding my latest comment.

They are never affordable, unless up for auction. Even then, they still break the bank.

A nice unpunched Ratz or Cracked Animals will likely be well into 4 figures.  I'm happy with my Cracked Animals but still on the lookout for Ratz.  Once I find a nice Ratz, my punched set including Ratz and Cracked Animals will be available.

It's wild to think that Ratz & Cracked were the 'holy grails' of Wackys way back when.  Then soon after all that hype, the #21 variations and rare boxes & pack and 5¢ Ad wrapper and other things started eclipsing the crazy $500+ Ratz/Cracked prices.  And then the Art was it.  After all the wild variations and test items and boxes and Topps vault stuff came out... I'm surprised Ratz & Cracked still have that major value.  At one time, I had all the Die-cut variations except R&C, actually.  Never felt like shelling out for those 2 for some reason.  Wasn't it discovered that one of the #21 variations was actually more rare than R&C, based on the sheets, though?  My Wacky history is escaping me at the moment as I've been out of it for so long.  I'd be surprised if I could still identify which 1-16 series all the titles are in anymore.  Been concentrating on VR/AR, though... so one of these days maybe I'll make a Wacky Packages VR experience.  Virtual museum?  Wouldn't surprise me if Topps did some AR-enabled Wackys at some point, too.  THAT could be really cool.

I just noticed on Ebay(Thanks to Paul Maul),there actually is a unpunched Ratz No. 32 die cut for bid up until next Tuesday July30th.So far ,there are 8 bids and the current price is below $100.I am very sure by Next Tuesday, the bids will go sky high.At this point,I am not putting in a bid for it.I would be almost shocked if by next Tuesday, the price is still below $100.The condition of it is not too bad.

Really? No. 21 Jolly Mean Giant 1967 die cut more rare than Ratz or Cracked Animals.I never attempted to try to find the extra 12 variations from the 1967 Die cut series.I just felt that a Jollly Mean Giant 1967 die cut is a die cut and that the No. on the back really doesn't matter. However that is only my opinion.

That’s a perfectly valid opinion. It’s just a fact that the Jolly Mean 21 is rarer than Ratz or Cracked.

My Jolly Mean #21 is a PSA 4 and that was even tough to come by.  I'd rather a Ratz PSA 5 to go with my Cracked Animals, but I might give in and bid on Matt's 4.

I learned real fast that the JollyMean giant No. 43 1967 die cut is much easier to find than the No. 21 version.I am happy enough with No.43 because it is the first Jolly Mean giant die cut as opposed to No. 21b being the second version.

Yes, #43 is much more common than Jolly #21...

The Ratz is up to $760, I believe. I bid up to $91 and waited. Now, it's beyond me. I thought it would go for around $1000, but not to almost $800 in the first 12 hours...

I guess this is the precipitate of it being the only Ratz on eBay right now.

I would not be the least bit surprised by the time of next Tuesday if the Ratz  die cut goes up over $2,000.I would be quite surprised it if didn't.

I don’t know about $2000. I think if it was raw, it would sell for more. The grade may turn some off, albeit I’m not included in that bunch. You never know.

To Paul Maul,I saw the November 11,2017 Auction of the PSA 4 Ratz 1967 Unpunched die cut going over over $2,500.Personally I feel that is definitely a normal reasonable asking price for a fairly good unpunched Ratz die cut.Trying to find it for a lesser price is highly unlikely.

Thought so.  I guess my Wacky memory isn't as bad as I thought.  I guess I should feel good about owning a nice #21 Jolly even though I never had R/C.  I think I actually had at least 2 of those #21's go through me over the years.  But that was before we discovered how rare they were compared to the R/C royalty.  So, they usually went for 50-100 bucks if I remember.  And we all used to balk at Macaluso's Die-Cut prices of $10+ for the sharp NM specimens at his booth.  If someone bought them all & got them graded, they'd probably have been a million bucks by now.  Apple in 1995, Diecuts in 1997 or Bitcoin in 2010... not sure which would've been a better bet.

I have a question for the wacky collectors.I have once in awhile seen on Ebay a reprint of the 1967 Ratz die cut with the exact stitching format and on the back with the words"No.32 of 44 wacky packages".Is there someone that is making reprints of these die cuts and selling them on Ebay?If so,isn't that defrauding the collectors?

Not defrauding if it's clearly noted as a re-print or reproduction. I had a Good & Empty repro that was very nice, but clearly a repro. It was a great 'placeholder' until I finally got a real one. I recently gave it to someone on this forum.
