73/74 posters - storage/viewing?
« on: March 09, 2019, 07:17:17 AM »
So, I finally got some posters, 1974's to be exact. Now, I'm wondering what to keep them in. I want them to lay flat in a binder/portfolio kind of thing so I can look at them, obviously.

Since they seem to be a weird size, I was looking for some recommendations. What do y'all keep yours in?

I use an ITOYA 13x19 Art Portfolio
perfect height for the posters, and wider, which is nice as the posters aren't near the inner spine.

there are 24 sleeves and i use the fronts for the original 24 and the backs for the alternate titles, so they are side by side to the cereal titles

I use these as well. The local Hobby Lobby stocks these and they are discounted 50% several times a year so that's when I stock up.

If they aren't discounted, you could probably go online and print out a coupon for one item at 40 - 50% off.  They seem to issue these on a weekly basis.

I know the few Hobby Lobby stores I have seen them in are not very consistent on where they put them. Our local store stocks them in the art supply area near pencils, charcoals, easels, etc. The one we go to occasionally in Indianapolis, has them by picture frames and shadow boxes for some reason. As someone mentioned earlier, you can almost always get a 40% off one item coupon at:  https://www.hobbylobby.com/

I use an Itoya as well (for old the 70s posters and the more recent vintage).  They're great.

Good to know, Scot.  I have one near me and, with those coupons, the prices are very competitive.

Like many of the others here, I use the same thing and they are perfect for the posters. I have two of them-one for the 73-74 posters and one for the ANS posters. I remember a few years back someone recommended these for the posters. I think it may have been Brad.

Nicely done!  And I know what you mean about the heat.  I am dreading going out later to make dinner for my mother.  And when I get home my house will be an absolute oven, like last night - no central air, and I won't go out with the wall units on.

Thanks Pat - Look into a Mini-Split - Cost effective and VERY efficient - much more then a standard home heat pump / AC

Not sure if anyone remembers, but a few of us got some custom mylar sleeves made for the posters back in 2000 or so.  They were a pain to get them in without damaging them, but once they're in, the slightly rigid edges protect them from bending, whereas the Itoya books (which I don't remember being around at that time, or at least not in that size) could still cause damage if someone folds the pages or stores it upside down, etc.  I like those Itoya books, though.  I would have definitely bought one for the posters if they'd had them then.  I don't remember how many of these custom sleeves we ordered.  Might have been only 100 total (a few of us went in on them if I remember right).  Always had a soft spot for the posters, especially the LARGE-size yellow pack versions.  Still have my complete set of those, including my "Creepios".  (Bonus points for anyone who knows why I misspelled that on purpose).
