4th of July
« on: June 29, 2018, 12:28:22 PM »
So, no 4th of July set this weekend?

"Fire Cracker Barrel" ("Cracker Barrel")
"Uncle Spam" ("Spam")
"Crapola Sparklers" ("Crayola Markers")
"Pop-Zits" ("Pop-Its")
"Bald Eagle Brand Ilk" ("Eagle Brand Milk")
"Liberty's Bell Halves" ("Libby's Pear Halves")

? ? ?

"I doubt it wouldn't have taken very much effort to have assigned a few of these (or similar) 4th of July titles out to a small handful of artists a month or so ago.  Again, Topps is right on top of things, always taking the proactive stance," he said sarcastically.  (Now, come on, Topps.  Make me eat my words.)

I suppose I shouldn't complain.

Just when I thought that life couldn't get any better, Topps did graciously offer us the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase the 1975 Bay City Rollers 80th Anniversary Poster!

Sniff. Sniff. Sob. Sob.  I'm drowning in tears of joy.  Excuse me while I go and pull myself together...

I give up as well.... I am not paying that kind of money for two WPs.... WHAT DON'T THEY GET!!!!!

NO OFFENSE to the artists that also do GPK - I DO NOT GAFF about GPK....... STOP THE MADNESS - They are both unique products

It is as they are trying to force the kids of a blended family to play nice and sing Kumbiah

I think we all agree we'd like to see separate Wackys and GPK's, or if they want to mix them, give us a bigger set!

I may have had some of those Firecracker Pops when I was a kid :)  Nice!

Maybe they can fix "Lief Gaurd" before the cards are printed?

I would think so. They were made aware of it right away.

Robert - Your part is GORGEOUS!

I wonder if they were also made aware they are only pissing us off (WP Peeps) with the mixing,,,,, Make a WP 4th Set

If they want a GPK 4th Set - Make that too - Maybe offer a break for those that want both - Just a Firecrackery Thought....

Great Wackys by Robert, as usual.  :great:

The GPK pairings are beyond tiresome though. Sigh   :-\

That's good - mistakes like that are annoying!  And, since the same GPK art is used for two card versions, I've always assumed the names aren't part of the painting, but are added later by computer.

Guys and gals,

Not to insult anyone here, but it seems you are all missing something.  The GPK cards are a bonus, nothing more, an added treat!  They are meant to be clothespinned to your kids' bicycle forks so they rub against the spokes and their bike makes a cool "motorcycle" sound and wins 1st place in the local 4th of July parade!

All kidding aside, well done, Robert, very well done!  (And that's exactly how I'll be eating my words, Patrick: well done!)

Granted, $15.00 a pop is somewhat pricey for the two WP (which is what it boils down to for a WP collector.)  Of course, I'd rather have five WP parodies, as opposed to the 2 out of 5 mix.  Two cards, however, are much better than no cards at all.  (Hey, Topps could have printed an exclusive GPK set, and then where would we be?)

True, I balked at the $15.00 price, however the two WP are very nice.  It is obvious that thought, care, and time were put into them. (The tattered blue ribbon is also a wonderful touch, Robert.)

If, by chance, between the 15th and 16th series, Topps had produced two cards that weren't part of any set, but rather strictly mail-order, consider how much you would be spending on them now - a tad more than $15 apiece.  Well, a similar circumstance is happening right now.  History is being made today: for one week only in 2018, Topps offered two "mail-order" WP parodies (+ 6 "spoke cards") that were never available again.  So purchase them today, and help your great, great grandchildren save hundreds of dollars a few decades from now!

Happy 4th of July!

Thanks all, for the comments. I did do the GPK as well....Thanks Baked Beards for the nice words...I did put as much as I could into those....all of them, in fact.

I understand the conflict many face with paying for cards they may not want....Wackys were my first love, but I do love GPK as well....I certainly see them as cousins...just a few steps removed from each other. But I can see how some don't.

Thanks again!

R.
