Dave, that Paul Maul looks even prettier slabbed than it did in my binder!  I'm glad to have been able to contribute to your incredible collection.

It certainly is a beauty, my favorite features are that it's perfectly cut with no tilt and nice and white.

So, as Dave mentioned, my first foray into PSA grading submissions yielded some interesting results, including the Paul Maul 9.

Here's the other shocker:

I'm also really pleased with this Kook-Aid - thanks again Dave for getting the rest of the wax off it!

This Mutts may not have made an 8, but it's nice to look at:

I also submitted a few die-cuts with the scarce alternate numbers.  This one looks pretty sharp:

I am having a ton of fun scrutinizing my original series Wacky keepers!

You did very well for your first submission Pat. Congrats. I just sent another box to PSA myself and hope to have something to post here in a couple weeks.

The Skimpy 15 is great, the back is completely free of toning too!

The Band-Ache 9 is only the fourth one graded that high!

Yep, that was one of the nicest raw die-cuts I had, so it was a bonus that it was a number variation.  It seemed to make sense to get some of the other lower grade variations done too, particularly since I figure that slabbing is safer for those fragile perforations.  Probably more die-cuts will go in in the future, but, meanwhile, Series 16 awaits!!

I am hooked  :P

I knew it was nice, but the 9 really surprised me!  It's the only one I've ever owned - I got it as a part of a complete set in 1999 when I started buying on ebay.

To be honest, I didn't see it as a 9 either, but there are enough times when things go the other way, so enjoy it!

I just received this today...and am not 100% sure what it is. The below is the front and back. At first, I thought it was like the MLB cards that were mistakenly printed on the reverse of some OS 1 checklists (or vice versa). But now that I have it in my hands, I'm more thinking it is an actual OS 6 puzzle piece that's in the proof phase, being printed on blank card stock to test it out. The card feels just like a puzzle piece to me. When I bought it, I thought it was on sticker stock, but no...anyone else agree or disagree with my conclusion? Anyone also have one or more of these? I don't recall ever seeing one.

Concur with your assessment that it's a proof.
We've seen the opposite, sheets of just the checklist side, with no puzzle, so why not this?
Condition looks really good, makes me think this was uncovered recently?

Very excited to pick up another really tough 2nd tan I've needed forever. Not perfect, but way better than any other copy I've ever owned, and probably among the 5 toughest titles from the 2nd series for centering and cut.

Funny, I've looked at this Putrid image probably hundreds of times in the last 15 years and I never noticed how the copyright isn't parallel to the bottom of the image. It goes uphill!

Another interesting 2nd series phenomenon is how certain titles are way tougher as tans than whites, most notably Awful Bits and Putrid.

Awful Bits: 5 tans in PSA 8 or better, 18 whites in PSA 8 or better
Putrid: 8 tans in PSA 8 or better, 24 whites in PSA 8 or better

I've never understood the reason for this, when it's limited to only certain titles. The Run Tony tan is also much tougher than the white.

I assume you are referring only to grading populations and not general population as those are not the most scarce tan back 2nds.  8 Lives, Cap N Crud and Hurts seem to be more scarce in tanback than Awful and Putrid.

My point is that Cap Crud, Ditch Masters, 8-Lives, Gurgle are nearly equally scarce in white & tan. Putrid and Awful Bits are much scarcer in tan than white.

That's a really nice sticker - congrats!!  I have an 8 tan, but the image is low and tilted, not nearly the same eye appeal.

I have 1000 tans and 500 whites of series 2 and the breakdown doesn't support your claim here.

While the first part is slanted, the last part, "U.S.A." looks nearly parallel to the black border and the bottom edge.

Maybe the card stock shifted during printing?    But if that happened, the border registration would be off kilter.

Unless the copyright is printed in a different step than the border.

Maybe you're misunderstanding. I'm not saying these titles are rare in any condition, but that they are rare centered and not tilted/miscut.

There may have been a time when PSA populations were not conclusive, but for the last several years there are a bunch of individuals trying to make a living submitting lower population wackys and asking the moon for them. If there were a ton of perfect tan Awful Bits out there we'd start seeing them in PSA holders and on eBay.

It seems to be slanted on all copies, so it must have been crooked on the original sheet.

Yes, this.
If you go to Gregs site and look at the high res image for series 2, you can see the copyright is slanted for both copies of the title on every sheet. It's even slanted on the proof sheet copy, so it was placed that way from the very start of production.
