I wonder if there was ever a high grade Choke Wagon? I haven't been on PSA's site for at least 2 years.

Choke Wagon is an ultra-toughie in high grade. No 10's, there is one PSA 9, shown below, owned by one of the WP registry set collectors....

That is super sharp. I've never seen one this nice. Most are OC and have the dog ear on the left.

I agree, most are OC. The only flaw with this one is some minor tilt, but all things considered, it's the nicest one I've ever seen!

This may be the most perfect wacky I've ever seen. Perfect corners, perfect centering, perfect registration, nice whiteness.
Maybe I should get Topps to use it as a buyback for Old School 5....

The other thing I seem to notice with the Choke Wagon is that I often see the cards themselves in nice shape but the print quality isn't great, with the color registration usually off somewhat making the art look fuzzy with overlapping colors.  Same with Bum Chex.

Cap'n Crud is one of my all time favorite Wackys, and I have never seen a high-grade one on eBay since I started collecting again in 2009, so I decided to get this one.

I probably went a little high on it, but it is nice looking imo. I figured it was worth around $100 and added some padding in for competition. Funny, my guess was that I would win at $128 and I got it for $122.50. With 15 bids there was definitely an interest in the card. First time I have bought something from Probstein - not sure what people's experience is with the seller, but normally I see stuff really out of range for me atm.

Anyway, I'd like some feedback here from you experts on what you think:

Cap'n Crud is indeed both a very cool title, and one that is hard to find in high grade (the PSA population report bears this out). I think you did fine if you're happy with the card. It's a tad diamond cut but has fantastic vertical centering (almost all of them are centered very high on the card -- also true of Ditch Masters).

Congratulations! I still need a nice one.

Received the Cap'n Crud card today and WOW, this baby pops! Really sharp and nice colors. Even my wife likes it. The diamond effect appears to be very minimal - once I gently tapped it straight it looks amazing. Very pleased with this purchase.  :great:

Re: Choke Wagon - someday I may send in a Choke Wagon I picked up a year or two ago that is really, really nice. Was from the original owner (someone our age!) and crispy clean. Have a feeling it might come back an 8 but you just never know.

While everyone is running around collecting ludlow reissues and colored borders, I snagged a lot of 100 stickers that contained 28 series 12, 8 Shedds and the rest were series 7-10 for about $50.  The lot is definitely well handled EX grade.

I believe I now have 12 different Shedds so I may attempt to complete the set AGAIN.  How many people have completed this set twice?

During my first Shedds completion run, I picked up 80% of the set in a miscatagorized lot that was labeled 1979s(about 100 stickers for $50) and it was loaded with Series 16 and Shedd stickers.  I brought the lot with me to Francis Khoury hangout/BBQ and I thought greg was going to cry.

You're definitely the king of these kinds of finds, congratulations. And that first find was all the more impressive because Shedds were a hell of a lot rarer in those days!

What version is the Hostage copyright?  I think the "1NC" is the tougher one.

Nice job dude!! those are great stories - I have one - picked a lot of 50 stickers or so for about $25 and in it was a "WHITEBACK" SPIT-N-SPILL sticker...it was ans EX++ condition too...great find!!

BTW at one of the shows Greg bought an entire lot of series 16 by cutting in fornt of me or maybe he beat me to it.. paid like a$1000 for them and didn't even have the $$ on him...they weren't in NRMT shape but he is crazy for series 16 stickers...that's for sure!!

Yes, oops........sorry, I shouldn't have told you because now you have to get one, right?

There's a copyright typo that says "1NC" instead of "lNC).  It's only on the double asterisk version.

greg cried like a baby claiming I cut in front of him at the cafe food line so there is a certain amount of irony to hearing he cut in front of you to get wackys.......of course I didn't cut in front of him, greg was oblivious of how cafe's work and that the people people the counter need to tend to customers waiting in line quickly but greg was too busy yapping away with someone standing next to him so the counter clerk looked at me and said "next" so I ordered.  Needless to say, I OWNED a cafe once, I know a thing or two about the dynamics of tending to customers....I have even restocked the beverage cooler for the cafe at the show as I know it sucks to have to leave the counter when there is a line of customers to tend to restocking......

If I remember, that poster is a weird size... seems I looked for stock poster frames about a year ago to match the dimensions and couldn't find one. Is that why you went with a frame kit?

This is funny "Note: This was produced by GRG Collectibles, LLC, it is not a Topps product. "

Does this somehow give him the right to reproduce Topps copyrighted images for a profit?  If so, I think we should all start producing wacky t-shirts from our own high quality scans.  LEt's see if Topps C&D's us.
