Filled the last empty spot in my Series 13 set!

Now I just have to upgrade some 7s.

Cool.

Nice example of a fairly tough title...

I would say it's a fine copy, but that would be incorrect... Isn't "fine" given to PSA 2 or 3 cards?

“Fine” is only used in comic book grading these days, for a CGC grade of 6.0. PSA uses EX or EX/MT for comparable card grades.

I agree this one is hard to get.  I have this one in that grade.  A harder one that I desperately need is Stickers.  That card has eluded me for close to 3 yrs.  I am still looking for a PSA 8 or better

Here are a few Wacky Ads I picked up recently.

I absolutely HATE that PSA doesn't pick one landscape orientation and stick with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That why I've passed on puzzle pieces - some of those are even portrait orientation and they encapsulate them upside down!

On a different topic, how do these scans look?  I tried something different this time.

Preach! I’ve considered sending all the puzzle pieces I have that are mis-oriented for reholdering. It would bother me to have to pay for that, but beyond that, I’m not confident they will understand what I mean and do it right. I can see them being reholdered the same wrong way!

Yeah. I never buy ones like this but unfortunately several have come back this way in my submissions. Usually only landscape ones, this one is really stupid.

Thanks!  I will be getting some more Ads tonight :)

I bought 6mm foam and cut out a spot for the Ad, placed the Ad in the opening, and put another sheet of the foam behind it, instead of closing the scanner lid.  I think it helped, at least a little bit.

I've compared  results of an ordinary HP scanner I use to my fairly crappy older droid phone camera and the camera results in a better image. Of course there are downsides, like if I want images of 10 things I have to take 10 photos (or more like 25 and select the best). I assume PSA cases have a reflection issue which maybe scanning eliminates.... everything in life is compromise, yeah?

all are brighter/more vibrant than the previous scan, but all the text is still blurry, as the card is offset from the focal plane by the slab.
I think most scanners have a very shallow focal depth though, so not much to do other than to crack them open.

Yes, I’ve become obsessed with figuring out how to take good iPhone pics of cards. First thing that is a must is natural light on a cloudy day. That seems to minimize reflections. It certainly takes patience but the results seem pretty good most of the time.

I've noticed your images, like this one, are crystal clear. Do you take the photo next to a window to use the natural light, or do you go outside? In trying various indoor lighting types and configurations, I've found I get better results with several distant lamps in different areas around (and away) from the object, instead of one light source. That minimizes both shadows and reflections. I needed to capture some year book images for a high school reunion recently, and taking pictures of the pictures gave me much better quality than scanning. It was a huge difference.

What I do is turn off all artificial light sources and open two windows. But if it is a sunny day there is way too much reflection. It needs to be kind of overcast. For some reason artificial light seems to make it look grainier. It also depends on what the image is like. If there is a large dark area the reflections are a lot more noticeable.

Waited Probstein out for three months until this card finally came down to a semi-reasonable price...

The more I think about it I’m very surprised there isn’t a basic Die Cut set on the PSA registry that would include the 44 images with any number. Then the master set would contain all 56 including the numbers variations. That would be consistent with the way other sets with variations are handled. The only consistent thing about the set registry is its inconsistency.

I’m now 2/30 on my 1st Series tan set. Well, I have Gadzooka but I’m 100% certain it’s a Wonderbread.

This one has decent centering too. Decent.

Crazy how even after Mold Rush replaced Truant, and it became a double print, all of them were still on the edge of the sheet...and that’s what leads to OC, miscut, etc.

I love it. The PSA population report just doesn’t tell the story. Yes, there are seven 9s. But if you laid all seven of them on the table, probably four of them would be heavily toned. Several of them would be tilted. With titles from series 3-6, the majority of the high PSA graded cards are still ugly.

Two recent die cut pickups. First tougher number variation I’ve owned.

Now you have the task to upgrade.  You see that one that is one grade higher and you buy it saying you will just sell the old one.  1000 slabs later you have like 4 sets of the same and you still haven't reached the top spot.  Welcome to my world of wacky collecting

Fortunately, with wackys there is never any hope of reaching the top spot, so it forces one to just put together a set they are happy with.

That is the key, collect what makes you happy.
Unfortunately for a select few....what makes them happy is Perfection :)

Points at you :)

But that also keeps you from ever being "Done" as well......so your covered for life! You will always have something to do, fun to be had.
