Did you guys hear that there's gonna be a 90-card movie-based set coming this March?

If not, check Beckett and Cardboardconnection.

To answer the question I know everyone is wondering: Yes, it's all real products this time. There are product parodies and movie poster parodies. Don't know the ratio but more products to posters I'm sure.

This one was actually a fun one to paint. Much better than the 50th. Having real products mixed with movie characters worked out well. Think a set of Planet of the Grapes and Gums style gags.

Finishing up my last ones on Wednesday. I'll have 22 in the set. Wrote an additional 8.

Movies are products. We purchase them, consume them, and sometimes purchase them again (and again on VHS, and DVD, and Blu-ray, and streaming services, and digital downloads). Not sure how they could be categorized otherwise.

Maybe Dave can pitch the idea of "Wacky Packages Goes to the Movies Old School" and work up some vintage movie poster parodies.  Heck, the cover of Gums (15th) pretty much already captures that.

I'd start with "The French Fries Connection" and "The Six-Urps" (Seven-Ups), two of my personal faves.

Funny you should say that as I did ask them to do an Old School subset again using 1970s movies but they decided to only do modern films.

I think this set is pushing the definition of "packages."  It probably should've been called Wacky Movie Posters, but Topps wanted to capitalize on the name recognition of Wacky Packages.

For some reason they are showing more posters than packages. All 22 I painted are traditional real product packages and I know many more are as well. I think there are more packages than posters.

Can't do anything Disney which includes Star Wars, Marvel, ABC TV, AMC and ESPN.

There was always a mix of adult and kid humor in Wacky Packages. I don't see it in this set (though I'll take a look) and am not interested.

I agree, this set was a little more fun to "conceive," if that's the right word?

I have 4 titles in there, not as many as I hoped, but the four ones I have are goodies!

Yes there were fun.  I did a great Tums parody, but they went with the Tomb Raider one instead, I'll have to make it on my own one of these days...

Wacky "Packages"  ... packages.  How is that movie posters?  I wasn't even happy when magazines were dropped into the series.

Granted they may be fun to paint.  That's fine.  But they're not packages.

Oh well, we had the baseball cards subset in Old School.  At least this is a subset.   :-X :-X :-X

Planet of the Grapes was a parody of a Topps package product.  Gums I'm not too fond of, but at least it was a physical product; a book.  These movie posters look nothing like Wacky Packages.

I don't think you read what I wrote. I did 22 paintings and every one of them is a standard Wacky Package using a real product but also using a movie character in it. Like Aqua Fresh, Wonder Bread, stuff like that. I think most of the set is like this but there are also movie posters like the ones shown already. Apparently they didn't have enough of the product ones ready when they made up the ad sheet.

I'm not a fan of this idea whatever form it takes.   I do respect you and your talent and not impinging on the artwork.  It is the vision for this series I can't say I agree with.

Here's an idea.  Topps wants movie posters?  Make a return of the Wacky Posters with movie posters as the theme.  :great:

Thanks to the C&D Disney gave to Topps that made Topps planed 2014 Star Wars Wacky Packages series get the boot before being released.

I wonder if the 2018 WACKY PACKAGES GO TO THE MOVIES series will even feature DVD/Blu-Ray takes on TV shows besides movies?

I will give the set a chance after the disaster computer generated junk I saw in the 50th set. The mere mention of PAINTING gives me hope that there will be hopefully some great gags and execution.

Yea I skipped that set also.    Sorry to sound so negative...I think Topps has lost it's way with the series.  Hope to be proven wrong, but after the 50th and now this...

You must be talking about one particular artist (I wonder who?). I know I painted all my cards last series and Neil, Smokin Joe, Brent, Joe Simko, Joe Grossberg (so many Joes...) and Fred did as well.

Although I'm pleased to see that there will be another Wacky series on deck, I do feel pretty gun-shy after the 50th set and just the general direction the series have taken lately (for the love of God, please stop with the colored borders!  They're almost as bad as poop and fart jokes!).  I'm encouraged that many of these are based on real products and glad to see that Dave has done 22 for the set.  From what I saw of the inserts, they're as uncreative and uninteresting as they could be.  I'd love to see magnets, lenticulars, and even foil stickers over most of the inserts these days.  I hope there are some pleasant surprises along the way.  And I did see a couple original series stickers represented on the sell sheet, so I hope those won't be found at astronomical odds.
