UK is an excellent band, and I remember playing both their first album and Danger Money quite regularly. Thinking about electric violin brings to mind Nash The Slash of FM, dig that band as well.

I've like Triumph for decades, but I gotta say, they really borrowed their sound heavily from the first Angel album. Vocals are nearly identical. Angel changed their sound a bit as they evolved, but the early Angel stuff must have been a big influence for Triumph.

I saw Triumph live in 1984 playing with Mountain and Loudness, Triumph was the clear winner on that bill.

I'm familiar with the band Angel but not their music so I can't speak with authority but what little I know of them is that they were more glam rock than anything. The Rik Emmett-penned songs, at least to me, seem to have more of a classical/prog rock influence and maybe even a little Pat Metheny type Jazz. Nevertheless, I think we both agree that Triumph was a great band, no matter the influences.

Yep, I dig 'em, especially the "Just a Game" album. But the first couple of Angel albums were more proggish, despite the ultra-glam way the band dressed. They became more straight ahead rock with later albums. Check this early promo out:

Nice one!

I knew that one of the Hudson Brothers was Kate Hudson's biological father (Bill), but I didn't know that another brother (Mark) wrote "Livin' on the Edge" for Aerosmith:

Great group:GTR

This is probably one of my favorite bands. Had only one album. I saw them in Hollywood Fla, I think in 1985. I have this album in my car for the last 4 years and play it probably at least once per week.
Steve Hackett is great guistarist(formerly of Genesis) and of course Steve Howe(of Yes)

GTR, great ballads.

Since we are discussing "Forgotten Songs" and groups, one of the groups from the 70's that had 2 of three hits was Sweet. Songs like
LOVE IS LIKE OXYGEN, BALLROOM BLITZ, and WIG WAM BAM. But my favorite was this one, LITTLE WILLIE...

How about PILOT. Had some great songs also. MAGIC was another 70's great song.

I will second the recommendation for the GTR album!  Some incredible music there.  Hackett and Howe both do instrumental pieces on the album that are great listens.  One of the instrumentals is called "Hackett to Bits" and the one by Howe is called "Sketches in the Sun".

Great to hear there is another big GTR fan out there. I love both those songs you mention. Hackett to bits is a great song title and song.

Also have an original concert shirt which I take care of.

Did you get to see them? I saw them at the Sunrise Musical Theatre.

I will third the GTR callout. I do have the album but have forgotten most of the songs since I've not played it in ages; guess I've got another one to dig out of the vinyl vault and rip so I can play it in the car. I would like to have seen those two play live but never got the chance. Have seen Steve Howe with Yes, though, and for me the best part of the concert was when the rest of the band left the stage for a break and Mr. Howe stayed out and played, and played, and played some more...awesome!

got a little TV song trivia for you all

(I often trade TV trivia about Gilligan, Batman, and Flintstones with the guys down at the gas station
where I get my coffee....yes, my mornings are very busy LOL)

On the Gilligan's Island episode where the Mosquitos land on the island, and the girls form "The Honeybess,"
which gets the band jealous and worried and they end up leaving the island without the castaways blah blah,
at first, the guys formed a band.  What was their name?  p.s. Gilligan did a mean Keith Moon impression
on the drums, by the way!

Back to the 80's briefly, and my favorite TV Show of that decade...WKRP In Cincinnati, remember that show?
How many of you have heard the entire theme song? It took me forever to find this, but it did chart, reaching #65 on the Billboard Hot 100.
I've uploaded a rip of it to my Box.net account if you want to listent to it...

You're absolutely right, the best PF songs are really high quality, from the songwriting to the arranging to the performance. No one should be embarrassed to be fans of the music, or the show for that matter (which is way above average too).

Good point, I agree.
BTW, I thought David Cassidy and Jose Canseco were going to end up in a celebrity death match on The Apprentice last Sunday, with Richard Hatch.

Put me down as a Partridge Family Fan also. In the 1970's, watched reruns over and over again. I haven't seen any reruns lately on our cable. Thanks for the song Summer Days. My wife walked in the room as I was playing your song, and we both listened to it. She was a big fan of David's brother.

First time I have heard WKRP song in years. Remembering, Loni Anderson was the mom in Night at the Roxbury. Great music on that movie.

Zenergizer, sorry dont remember that episode of Gilligan's Island.

I have to add, my favorite show ever was ALL IN THE FAMILY. I have seen them so many times that whenever I am somewhere and hear somebody says something similar to some of Archiisms, he pops in my mind.

MEATHEAD, GROINOCOLOGIST, REVERAND FLETCHER, EDITH, STETCH CUNNINGHAM("HE HAS AN IQ OF ABOUT 1"), LITTLE JOEY.
(well enough of that)

I never got to see them.  I actually don't think I discovered the album until after they had already broken up.  I did a little research on the internet yesterday after watching those GTR videos and I was amazed at how badly criticized that album was and how much Hackett now wants to distance himself from it.

I really like them also. I bought all 4 seasons at www.deepdiscountdvd.com for $32 total with free shipping a few weeks ago, they have good deals all the time. Everyone laughs at me when I tell them that I like The Partridge Family but the shows are funny and most of the music is pretty good. Danny Partridge is hilarious.

Studio musicians and back-up singers worked with David and Shirley on the records.  None of the other kids performed on them.

Hello Martin

I just noticed the little blurb you have "I'll stop the world and melt with you".

I went to college in Miami in early 1980's and that was one huge hit in the sleepy town of Miami back then. Played at the clubs like 1235 and Club Nu. It was a great time to be between 18 and 20 years old. MTV just kicking up.

The album of Modern English was one of my first gifts to a girlfriend then.
