How about this band? Their only charted single (it made #27 on Billboard's Hot 100) is only one of many great songs by them, IMHO.

I LOVE this song! One of my favorites. I have quite a bit of City Boy in my iTunes library.

The one City Boy album that I never could find was It's Personal but I finally got it and RIP'd it from vinyl. I also found out later that it was issued on CD about two years ago...

Saw Sniff N Tears when they opened up for Kansas around 81 to 83 or so. Huge band with alot of band members. Sound system at Hollywood Sportatorium in Fla did not pick their sound up too well. However, Kansas sounded great.

One of my favorite songs and forgotten by most:SHOOTING SHARK by Blue Oyster Cult.

Also MAMMA MAMMA Please by Nazareth early 1980's. (was in that first year of MTV videos).

Shooting Shark is okay in my book but many songs from their earlier work are much better IMHO - Then Came The Last Days of May, Astronomy, Stairway To The Stars, and pretty much anything from Secret Treaties. One of their newer songs that I particularly like is Live For Me.

Understood. Though I love Shooting Shark, I never saw it as a real popular song.
Thanks for the Video of Sniff. Great song, great voice.

This breaks open my 1980's recollections. Sticking to pure rock, what about TRIUMPH:"Follow your heart", and all the others.
APRIL WINE and "Sign of the Gypsy Queen"

And of course NEW WAVE:SAGA with "On the Loose", PSYCHEDELLIC FURS with "Love My Way", ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN with "the Cutter", and
KAJAGOOGOO with "Too Shy".

VISION QUEST, a great movie with great music including JOURNEY.

I was in college during that time, it was fun.

The song by Nazareth is actually called "Holiday". I rediscovered that song about a year ago. Great tune. You also mentioned Sign of the Gypsy Queen. Great "live" video from the first year of MTV. April Wine was a fantastic rock band that was totally underated.

How about New England? I saw them on a triple bill with Foghat and Pat Benatar at the Allentown Fairgrounds a loooooong time ago.
The song barely scratched the Top 40 according to my Top Pop Singles 1955-2006 but was on the Billboard Hot 100 for about three months.

Here's another that just came to me...mainly because I recently dug out the vinyl from the vault and ripped it to mp3.

The song I really like is called "The Last Safe Place On Earth" but I couldn't find it on YouTube. If you're really interested, you can hear part of it

Here's a fill-in from the same album....

You guys sound like you are from the same era that I am.

What about CHILLIWACK from Canada with their big hit MY GIRL. The gone gone gone you been gone so long song.

I dont know how to upload videos on here like you guys are doing. Otherwise, I would put it on here for you to see. Maybe some one can teach me.

Frank

(by the way, New England song is great, I had never heard that before. LeRoux I do remember. DEXY's, how can I forget. I saw that over and over again in the early to mid 80's)

Good call on Chilliwack. I have their Wanna Be A Star and Opux X albums. Opus X has a really nice ballad called Midnight that is a favorite of mine for that type. I'm a sucker for a "ballad" with a nice guitar outro.

Anyone into The Alan Parson Project? They had a load of Billboard Hot 100/AT 40 appearances from the mid-70's to the mid-80's or thereabout.
Everyone knows their "lighter" fare such as Eye In The Sky but one of my favorites, which actually broke into the bottom of the Top 40, is (The System Of) Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether which is on the first album I bought by them (maybe it's even their first album?) Tales Of Mystery And Imagination.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHNxBheFAt4

Here's another good one (IMHO) off the platinum selling I Robot...I'm sure I heard this on the AOR stations I lisented to but probably not on the Top 40 stations.

OK, I can't resist one more, you've got me on a roll; the really obscure stuff is starting to rise to the top...

Lake, a prog-rock band from Germany that did not do much in the States AFAIK. I heard one of their songs playing as background at my local record shop and I was hooked. I'm not sure too much of their stuff would still hold up for me now but now that I've dug the LPs out I'll have to listen and see.

Maybe this does not even qualify for the "Forgotten Song" topic because it was never known, lol.

Your turn!

In reviewing the previous posts on this thread, someone mentioned Zebra, which I totally missed and is a great suggestion. I do like Zebra a lot, saw them open for Blue Oyster Cult at the Tower Theater longer ago than I wish to remember....

Without the video, give you an obscure one I had mentioned in a previous thread:
Group UK. Lead singer John Wetton who would go on to be lead singer of ASIA
The keyboardist would enter Jethro Tull
Drummer Bozio did alot of stuff later with other group

Here's a video of a young band (at the time anyway) out of Boston called MINDWALK ages 11-15 playing a song from UK's first album. Pretty ambitious for their age.

Crazy yes... Craziest? Check out some of the all too few filmed segments of Spike Jones covering songs back in the 1940s and 1950s. For example...

I've like Triumph for decades, but I gotta say, they really borrowed their sound heavily from the first Angel album. Vocals are nearly identical. Angel changed their sound a bit as they evolved, but the early Angel stuff must have been a big influence for Triumph.

I saw Triumph live in 1984 playing with Mountain and Loudness, Triumph was the clear winner on that bill.
