1992 Hockey Freaks promo cards by Panini
« on: August 21, 2017, 07:14:54 PM »
A while back I bought a complete set of a Canadian trading card series called Hockey Freaks at my local comic book store. (They were made by a company called Action Cards in 1992.) It was very good, kind of like a nineties version of Baseball Super Freaks series 1 and 2 and Football Super Freaks series 1 (and only). I then looked them up on Jeff Allender's House of Checklists and found out that two promo cards were made for the series. All I know about them is that Panini released them and that they were both different in appearance and unnumbered. I'd like to buy both of them in excellent condition, or reasonably close, and I'll pay $10.00 ($5.00 each) for them. If anyone can help, please send me your snail-mail address and I'll send the payment. Thank you very much.

I forgot to say that I found out about these two cards that I'd like to have on Jeff Allender's House of Checklists website. That being said, is there anyone that can help me buy these things-or even tell me whether or not they even exist at all?

Of course! Just nobody with extra 1992 Hockey Freaks promo cards, I guess...maybe you should try the 1992 Hockey Freaks forum?

All right already, you win. I know when I'm licked. Maybe Jeff Allender's site was wrong and they don't exist. I mean, I even looked them up on eBay and couldn't find them.

But seriously, folks, I'd like to know if these two promo cards exist. If they do, please tell me, because I'd like to have them for my collection. However, if they don't, then please tell me this as well, because then I can adjust the cards in my binder accordingly and then I won't have seven empty pockets in the back of the last page. Instead, I'll have nine empty pockets.

Oh, what the hey, I'll have nine pockets anyway. After all, not everything is get-able.

You guys aren't going to believe this, but I found the two promo cards for Hockey Freaks on eBay finally yesterday! However, I just looked now and they were GONE! There were three copies of one and two of the other one and the guy was auctioning them off with the starting price of $1.00. I mean, so near and yet so far! I had them in my sights for one day! Is this sad, or what?

If it's the auction I think it is, they didn't sell, right? Just message the seller and ask him to relist the auction, or make it a Buy It Now at a specific time so that you can snap them up on the second, or other methods not approved of by eBay.  ;)

No, they were off the eBay listing entirely. I didn't get the seller's name and I was going to visit a good friend and ask for his help in ordering them.

Try looking up your eBay history in your computer.

Yes, those are them. Who's the seller and what's the listing on eBay?

just search eBay for Hockey Freaks, and look at Completed Auctions.
If you sort by Ended Recently, it's at the top of the list.
eBay 101.

If the auction has ended, does that mean that they've been sold? My friend's got company for dinner, so I don't know when I'll be able to get to him.

Click on the auction Patrick listed.  You'll see that nobody bought them.  Then go to "contact seller" and ask him/her if you can buy them.  I don't exactly know how, but they can sell them to you directly if they want to.  (I've had other dealers sell me items after the auction has ended.)

The seller relisted them.  Go put in a $1 bid!

I can't. I'm not registered in eBay, so I don't have a PayPal account. I don't know how to do it anyway, and even if I did know, I can't do it because I'm unemployed and can't use a credit card without permission and my parents don't like buying or selling anything online, because they're afraid of identity theft, so I can't ask them to order them and then give them the money. I've got a good friend of mine who I can ask for help with things like this, and was going to visit him tonight for that purpose, but he had company over for dinner, so I have to wait to talk to him later. That being said, I don't know how long this offer will last and the closest that I can get to see him is maybe Saturday night.

I just checked, and the auction goes until Thursday, 3/29, so you should have plenty of time to see your friend before it ends.  Note that the cards are being shipped from Canada, so I asked him for the shipping cost, and it is now shown as $2.50 to the USA.

Bidding ended at $6.51, so now I have to try again. Unfortunately, I won't have any more money until Friday. Pat, if you could help me out now, I'll try to pay you back whatever you get it for.

The auction ended and the cards are now sold to someone else, so there's nothing any of us can do for you.

Oops, I misunderstood Mike's post.  I originally thought this went until Thursday, but "bidding ended" made it sound like it was done.  I had offered to bid, but won't now, lest we all bid against each other trying to help Mike.   :P

Yeah, don't wanna do that. That would be a loss of sanity.

Well, BB, I found out that Brian (ratchet007) was helping me out with it. I looked at the auction on it yesterday and saw that it was sold. Before that, he asked for my snail mail address and I PMed it to him. However, I then sent him another PM and asked for his snail mail address so that I could send him the payment for them. So far, no response. I only hope that all this means what I think it does and that they'll soon be mine. Let me tell you, the suspense is killing me!

I think your hope is valid. Brian asked me to yield on the auction, that he would get them and ensure you received them. I'd say you can relax and look forward to filling those holes in your binder.

Brian: if I shouldn't have made this public, I apologize.
