Series 6 LTD Edition Postcard set for sale AT COST
« on: July 27, 2010, 02:55:28 PM »
Ok, here's the deal.  I have a set up on ebay here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270611498909&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

This includes everything EXCEPT the sketch card.  I will sell the set for $40.00 to the first person who sends me a PM.  I need to be paid by PayPal or a money order.  I will charge $3.00 for shipping, so the total will be $43.00.  Please note that if it sells on ebay before I can take it off of ebay then I have to honor the ebay transaction.  I only have this one set to sell, so if you really want it then PM me soon.  I will be gone from about 6PM-9PM CST on 7-27 but will be able to respond to PM's after that.

I would like to claim it and then hold it in reserve for someone who gets shut out completely.  For those on my list which exceeds the number of extra packages that I have, this will be applied to that list.

Better yet maybe after topps is done Neil could provide the list of those who didn't get a set and you could give that person the option to buy it and just move down the list??? Just a thought. I know a lot of folks are waiting to see if we will get the chance to order a set. If they don't they would be happy to get everything except the sketch. Again just a thought ???

I think that's what Ernie's doing.

Neil's list is a waiting list for complete sets from Topps at issue price, including a sketch card.  This offer is for everything BUT the sketch, for forum members who get totally shut out from replacements and Neil's waiting list, but still want the Philly Runt card, wrapper, etc.

Pretty much that nails it on the head.  I had reached out to Neil to send him my extra non-sketch sets but I think that got too complicated.  Some of the extra sets I obtained were quite costly so pricing these sketchless sets was tough, my goal was to make sure they were less than ebay prices yet recouped some of my investment.

Cool, so I would assume this set that was offered at 40.00 is to average down your cost but are you using Neil's list or do you have a separate list for people that get shut out of a complete set?

No, I have not coordinated with Neil's list, I am going by messages I received and comparing to their posts on the waiting list thread.  I have a pretty good sense of who got shut out and if folks want to play games and feign being shut out, there is so much anyone can do.  Some sellers on ebay clearly have 10-15 sets, how the hell did they get all of those sets?  My main goal was to try to avoid a first come first served ebay windfall for someone who has sets already when there are people waiting for this stuff.

My understanding is that some people bought multiple batches using family members as additional buyers.  Pretty lousy for the rest of us.

My understanding is that there is no correlation between the lost shipment and the folks who ordered multiple batches using family addresses.  The folks who had to wait due to the lost shipment are being rewarded with the possiblity of some extra cool sketches given that all sketches are cool to start with.  To marc's comment, I was under the impression that Topps attempted to catch those surplus orders and cancelled them.

I know my wife somehow ordered 10 sets for me as I was stuck in a meeting when these went on sale.  She tried to pay via credit card then hit back arrow and then paid with paypal instead and the cart got updated with 10(we can't think of any other way as to how 10 got in the cart on the single order).  Topps rightfully cancelled 5 of the sets and those sets should be part of the stash to go to the folks who got shut out completely.  This means there should be at least 5 sets in the queue to be sent out to the folks that were shutout.

Sounds somewhat similar to how I jacked up Greg's forum. I attempted a task (which did not work), and then proceeded to do another task, without closing my browser and starting a new session, which was a mistake. When I tried again (without creating a fresh browser session), all hell broke loose and the indexing became screwed up because of the bug in my session. If you try to do something online, and it doesn't work, or you change your mind, be sure to close your browser and then open a new browser before proceeding. Otherwise, you are susceptible to all sorts of mayhem, like trying to purchase one item but then ordering 10. I don't know much about computers, but I think this idea is sound and may have contributed to your situation . . .  which of course, was not the end of the world  :D
(As we know it, and I feel fine)

My wife's situation was much simpler, no muli opened browsers, just a bug in the Topps ordering system that even though it limited purchases to 5 on an order, her switching payment types hit the cart twice and it never errored out.  It all worked out and I hope those sets go to someone good as they were cancelled from my order weeks ago.

I think we discussed the issue from a different perspective the day these sets were released. Someone posted how many were left and I couldn't figure out how they could find this out since the way I used to do it is type the number in the order page & see when it told me they were out of stock. Since you could only enter 1 to 5 from the drop down order page, I got lost for a moment. Then I tried something different. I entered 5 from the drop down, then chose to view the cart and after the cart was displayed you could enter any number you wanted and this was how to check remaining stock (at least remaining in online inventory) of the postcards. This is also probably how you could enter a number greater than 5 on an order. This was probably caught manually since the order system let it pass.

Holy crap, if you changed that number on the cart page, it actually placed the order for that number?  I am surprised there were't more "over buys" or maybe there were and there are lots waiting to be redistributed?

I don't know if it would accept whatever number you put in for the actual order since I did this after I placed my order only to check the remaining inventory count. I figured that if your wife was able to order 10, that's probably how she did it (adjusted the number in the cart), but I would think topps scrubbed these orders manually shortly after they were placed and put the excess right back in inventory.

She was under instructions to order 5 sets so I have no reason to believe she would key in the number 10 especially given that the first screen limits the number you can key in.  I think I was pretty clear on the steps she reported that she took.
