I hope before the set is released or the next Wacky Packages set there's something paying tribute in memory to Jay Lynch. The 2014 Wacky Packages series did mention in memory of Bhob Stewart.

I just bought 2 collector and 2 hobby boxes from Blowout. All I really care about is a base set, a few color variants as examples and a nice sketch or two.

I will be selling WP 50th Anniversary BASE sets for $16 shipped ( Paypal Friends&Family Gift) for anyone interested - you can pre-sale with me via PM

I did the same... plus 5 blaster boxes from Steel City.

Am I the only one who's still confused about what exactly is included in this set and what sort of boxes one needs to buy to get the complete set?  I won't be pursuing a master set or even close to it, but I'd like to plan out what makes the most sense for me to get the most bang for my buck.  Maybe I'm just too distracted by other things in life or perhaps it's that this series seems to be even more complex than previous ones.

Im with you brother, its been one big Topps mystery on this one. I thought we would get so much more announcement and visuals.

I really don't see this set as any different than the last set or two. Whatever you did for those, do that again.

Same stuff, different year:  Collector boxes, sketches, autographs, different colored borders, yadda yadda yadda

That is the impression, more or less, that I had.  I suppose it was wishful thinking on my part that this set would excite me more.  I like so many of the great sketches I've seen, but there's little else about it that gets me fired up.  I'll certainly look forward to putting a set together from some random packs and maybe a bonus box or two and pick up a sketch or two from ebay, but that may be it.  God, I wish they would retire the different colored borders schtick.

Thanks!  I haven't seen any info about bonus boxes.  Anyone know what to expect in those?  I often find they are a pretty good value.

Bonus boxes look like a good deal again, even better than the chrome boxes.

5 packs + 1 Bonus pack per box.
Bonus pack contains 5 Best of the '80s stickers.

Plus, the bonus boxes are supposed to be the only ones with the 4-panel puzzle sketches.

Good to know!  Thanks!  I've always thought those were a good way to go and it sounds like that trend continues.

Does anyone know what the retail on these packs is supposed to be?  1.99?  2.49?

Maybe I missed it but no one actually knows when the 50th anniversary date really is, correct?  Isn't it true that Topps does not have records of when the Diecuts first debuted to the public?

I recall this being mentioned years ago - we can probably go by the trademark filing through the Patent and Trademark Office.
This indicates first use on July 28, 1967 and then first use in commerce on August 4, 1967.
Consecutive Fridays that summer.

Word Mark   WACKY PACKAGES
Goods and Services   IC 030. US 046. G & S: CHEWING GUM, SOLD IN CONJUNCTION WITH ADHESIVELY BACKED LABELS. FIRST USE: 19670728. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 19670804
Mark Drawing Code   (1) TYPED DRAWING
Serial Number   72280109
Filing Date   September 11, 1967

Interestingly, there is a very new trademark filing out there as well, from Jan 23, 2017, for "Downloadable images and graphics in the nature of digital stickers"

Patrick, fun stuff, thanks for posting.  Interesting point about the recent trademark, I wonder if that means they're thinking about a Wacky digital card trader like they have for sports, Star Wars and Walking Dead.

Interesting that those dates fall on a Friday this year too!  I guess the 2017 calendar must be identical to the 1967 calendar.  I just thought it would be appropriate to designate a date for the "official" anniversary.

That link to the Patent Office does not work.   I get an error telling me that the search session has expired.

That's the way the trademark site is designed, for some reason.  Once you go deeper than the beginning search query, you cannot save your location.  Perhaps it has to do with them not wanting to be indexed by search engines, for whatever reason, but that's how it's been for years.

Wonder if they plan to try a collectible trading card app like the Star Wars Card Trader, etc?  Or maybe they'll start releasing "sticker packs" for things like iMessage and so on, since there's a revenue stream to be had there as well.

Wackys usually hit Targets starting on Mondays. It just depends when they stock the aisle from the Excell Cases. I hunt down the cases on Monday and ask to crack them to obtain unmolested product.

Yup! This is the week to start hitting retail stores! Walmart might even have those special blister packs again with a bonus sticker and exclusive blue borders like last time.

official release is listed everywhere as Wed 3/29.
although dealers have started shipping, so the product is around.

for my region, the Excel guys don't stock cards until Thursdays at Target, so YMMV on when you'll see stuff in the big box stores.
