I second that! I started collecting with the original series 6... Run-A-Way and Eviltime are two of my all time favs. Bit monsters and beautifully painted. Iconic Packages too. These both help o make the original series 6 my 'Catcher in the Rye'... I can't say no to picking it up again and again when I see a good deal on eBay. Sigh.

Always like Wacky products containing a family of meanies.

Notice, also, the non-threaded stopper - and the medicine bottle itself made out of real glass.  Blast from a long ago, yet not quite forgotten, past.

...and how about this?

6th series ain't getting too much attention. Truant is a great card though, the color contrast is very attractive if it's glossy.

I think this is a great gag, with funny taglines and a good character.

This was a great one because it really spoke to its grade school collector base... the pencils are beautifully painted. The Wacky's that joked about kids and school really made it feel like these were made for kids (me at that time). School was the main world we lived in, so parodies involving that known world felt like they really were made for me personally.

I vote we rename the Truant kid "Smokin' Joe"!

Always wondered why the can looks like a sealed metal can (like canned food) without the plastic lid.  Is that how they were made - you would have to initially cut the top open with a can opener, then use the plastic lid once it's been opened?

They did used to have metal lids. But they weren't sealed like canned goods. It just a lid on the top, very much like the current plastic lid. Just pry it easily off, then a little pressure to put it back on.

Wow, you're absolutely right, Patrick.  I remember that now.  If you hadn't mentioned it, I would have completely forgotten such was the case.  And the metal lids worked well, too, for the most part, unless somehow over time one managed to mangle up the cardboard rim of the canister.

I always like the inclusion of "The Thinker" in this parody.  Small detail, yet nice contrast.

The "Monster Mouthwash" gag doesn't really wash, as there is no monster shown.

I'm not sure I've ever noticed there's a fire hose on the perimeter of the label.

I especially think the fiery mouthwash artwork is great!

Good point about the fiery artwork.  It infuses some color and energy into an otherwise very bland-looking product.  If I remember correctly, back then Scope came in minty flavors, but Listerine was only made in that one neutral, medicinal-tasting, faint off-yellow color.  Yuck.

This is a fantastic Wacky!  Good gag, fantastic package art.  Another product I still think of by the Wacky title.

Like this one, though I was always more of a "Skimpy" fan.  Don't know how all of the "monkey business" came to be originally integrated into it, however, I believe the gag might have been stronger if a Peter Pan monkey was substituted for the human boy.

With the "pain" gag, why didn't the joke revolve around sharp peanut shells in the peanut butter?

Generally Demented vs. General Electric bulbs. The GE photo is actually a tin promo item where you push that button on the front and a lightbulb with a face on it springs up from the top lid. But you get the idea!

I really like Generally Demented.  The "dim lights for dimwits" tag line is funny, and there's something about that face that makes me smile.

I like the art now, but the name change was too big a departure for me as a kid and I didn't care for it back then. Something like 'Generally Eccentric' would work better.

I agree.  "Generally Eccentric" does work better - and still ties in perfectly.

I think it was the corrugated box that sold me on Generally Demented.

Super Cigar Crisp, Airraid and Peter Pain are spot-on.  The first of these is listed as almost definitely non-Saunders, with the other two debatable.  But the artwork is as dead-on as anything in the Original 16.

I believe that face is the likeness of an actual person - Harvey Kurtzman, creator or co-creator (not sure) of Mad magazine.  I think Jay pointed that out once.
