Funny thing about this set, 2 days ago I opened a box that I have not opened in years. It had Silly Supermarket and Pranky Products in there, looked at them for about an hour. PP is a really nice set.

The Official Wacky Packages Day petered out. The Unofficial Wacky Packages Day is on June 9.

Then what was the name of the set put out by the guys Ernie mentioned?

Mark and Mark are the ones behind NewHamm, Their franchise is PACKAGE PARODIES. Series 1; Series 2; Lie-Cuts 1 through 4; Halloween Fun Pack,  2010 Series Phase1, 2, and 3; and 2010 Halloween Fun Pack.  Series 1 and 2 also had red and black Crudlow back variation parallel sets. Most of these sets do not have copyright dates shown anywhere so I am not 100% sure when the first series was issued. There are a number of promo cards available.

The one and only PRANKY PRODUCTS set I have shows "Series 1 Test Set" with a 2001 copyright and E.I.E.I.O. (Enterprising Individual Exploring Infinite Options). Neil, where you involved with this set?

There were 3 series of SILLY SUPERMARKET plus a 2011 mini Series but I think its a bit more complicated. There seemed to be either test or alternate versions of the first series or two with some art and puzzle variations. Plus, I think at some point one of the chains like Toys R Us picked up this series. It may be possible they repackaged this first 2 series and resold as a large single set but I am really vague on this now. One of my sets of SILLY SUPERMARKET cards have the following on the stickers "Copyright Rick Rose 2001 -2002" which would seem to place them slightly after PRANKY PRODUCTS. But this particular sets looks like the earliest version or possibly a test version. The rest of them show a "Top Shelf Enterprises" or "TSE" copyright.   Forum Member starman101 (Paul) has posted over the years announcing SILLY SUPERMARKET releases, etc. There is an older Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/sillysupermarket/

Anyone else have more of the details they can help fill in?

My favorite is Nutsy bars - good gag, the lines on the packaging wrap around so well, and the cross-eyed character is really well done.

Forghettio's also has a good character, matching the actual packaging.  I don't know if "politicans" was a deliberate spelling because it comes in a can, but it looks like a misspelling to me, and they drive me nuts.

Hey Joe,

Let's see. I started submitting gags in 2003 and the first approved Wacky gag was either Queerasil or Castro Oil but I'm not entirely sure which one was first, since I'd usually send them in groups. Queerasil was definitely painted first, though.

I'm shocked none of the p.c. nazi's gave you hell for using the word "queer" regardless of the context.

Neil, thanks for the bit of history.  Well regardless of whether it's PC or not, Queerasil is an awesome monster Wacky, a great gag with great art!

Ha! I never caught that! The funny thing is, I loved spelling bees back in my elementary days! But then I discovered art...

Forghettio's is also one of my faves as well as Tom & Jerry's; Bugels; Croacker Jack; and Nutri-Groan Bars.
Its fun looking at these now knowing that Neil did the artwork to compare to his newer stuff.

The biggest difference is that a lot of the art for Pranky Products was done digitally. If I had to do all over again, I probably would have done the set as conventional paintings. Gives everything a warmer feel...

So will you do the set all over again in a painted fashion? I am sure there would be a lot of interest.

Happy Anniversary!  I recall buying this set during the "dark ages" of Wackys back in 2001.  Not that I remember the exact day, but I was living in Dallas at the time and thought the set was very well done.  It was cool to know that Neil got called up to the big leagues and worked on Wackys.  And even cooler that he is such a great ambassador for the hobby!
